First off, im not running for president. So its irrelevent to the discussion.

Second, there is a difference between making a harmless error and the errors that he makes constantly. Everyone mixes up their right and left hand once in a while. But if I knew my uncle freed prisoners from Buchewald...I sure as hell wouldnt say "Auschwitz" if Ive had any education at all of World War II. Sounds more like he didn't know which camp it was so he just picked the one that came to mind.

And forgiving mistakes? Democrats dont do it so why should the Republicans? Kind of like how the Dems continuously pound on McCain for the "100 years" comment even though he was taken out of context responding to a idiotic question. We dont hear about the media bashing Obama....instead every person on the news today is defending Obama. The obvious liberal bias in the media is disgusting. His preist was listening to for 20 years screams about racism and how terrible America is. And Im supposed to believe that Obama doesnt agree with that? The man can do absolutely no wrong it seems.

Cyberdude, is it that difficult to admit when you're wrong?  Whether you're running for president or not you pointed out a mistake this man made.  You've done it several times in here.  But in this thread you made similar mistakes about history, and now you're trying to turn it around.  Yeah people make mistakes all the time, including Obama.  What's really fucking funny is that I am not an Obama supporter.  But I find it incredibly infantile to seize on little things like this.  It makes you look stupid, and it sets you up to be called out for your errors like you were here twice.

The error Obama made here is not a BIG one as you claim.  I'll bet if you ask most people to name a concentration camp from the second world war, most are going to say Auschwitz.  I doubt very seriously if most people would recognize Buchenwald for what it was.

You have committed the logical fallacy of Hasty Generalization.

Incorrect.  You have committed the Democratic Fallacy of assuming yourself to be the focal point of the discussion.  I speak of Democrats and the Lunatic Left (tragically they are one and the same), and the collective insistence of this group that Buffoon Obama is somehow presidential matierial, while McCain somehow is not.  I speak of Democrat-inclined media outlets, blogs, and commentators in general pontificating about McCain's "senior moments" while ignoring similarly consequential gaffes by their clown candidate.

As I am replying to your post, it is plausible to presume I am speaking to you.  It is not plausible to presume I am speaking specifically about you.  Your postings, therefore, are irrelevant.

Hey, well, I'm part of the "Loony Left" (proudly, I might add, and I let my freak flag fly once more) so if I have never made such comments, then you are wrong. Q.E.D.

What's it like to be wrong so often, Mr. Relevant? AH hahahaha

Cyberdude didn't claim the gaffe was huge.  He claimed it demonstrated a fundamental ignorance on Obama's part, and that it shows Obama's inability to effectively extemporize and think on his feet.

Ironically, the excoriations Cyberdude has received for his own gaffes are a most effective proof of the fundamental correctness of his initial assertions.

Obama sees war dead among us

Obama's visited 57 states

Again incorrect.  To reiterate.....I am speaking of a collective behavior pattern by Democrats.

Your individual statements (or, rather, your lack thereof) do not eliminate the existence of statement by others.  Thus, as I have said, while I may be speaking to you, it is your erroneous assumption that I am necessarily speaking about you specifically.

When Dan Quayle misspelled "potato" the media went berserk with it. That was real news...

Yet when Obama sees war dead among us you can't find it in the news anywhere...

Funny, that.

Level -> RE: Obama misspeaks again (5/27/2008 6:57:07 PM)

Quayle was such an unlikable fucker..... why did Bush ever pick him?

Anyway.... again, all three have said things they wish they hadn't. Hillary has done the worst, with her D-Day-esque landing....

This is very true.  The issue in my estimation is less the gaffes themselves and more the uneven reporting/discussion of them--they are not "big" issues per se, but they are a part of the discussion on those issues.  If Clinton and McCain gaffes are major news items, then so too should Obama gaffes be major news items, more so than they currently are.

Um, i think that should be

WE have all made gaffes.  WE've all looked stupid at some point.

I'd be more concerned about what they DO... and have done.  Actions speak louder than words!

We all stuff up, how do the candidates deal with challenges, when whoever is in office, there will be disasters in a domestic and foriegn context natural and man-made that will have to be reacted to ...  and planned for ... what is each candidates history in this?  The answer may give an idea as to who to vote for!

Level -> RE: Obama misspeaks again (5/27/2008 7:11:57 PM)

Of course WE do, but this thread isn't about US.

I could explain your error to you mathematically using Set Theory, but I fear it would require you to take a couple years of remedial math, then Calculus and Diff-EQs and Linear Algebra first. I don't have the time to waste. Es tut mir Lied.

subtee -> RE: Obama misspeaks again (5/27/2008 7:14:37 PM)

Could you call me? Except not with mathematical or algebraic or some other such nonesense...

maybe not a good idea after all?

cyberdude611 -> RE: Obama misspeaks again (5/27/2008 7:15:04 PM)

It's not just one mistake.
It's a combination of multiple mistakes with dishonest storytelling. And that all we get from Obama is one story after another.

And why did he even bring it up? Am I supposed to be impressed that his great uncle served in World War II? Of course that may make him look more American since he has a problem in that area by refusing to wear the American flag. I wonder if his great uncle would agree with him on that idea?

SeaDogret -> RE: Obama misspeaks again (5/27/2008 7:17:44 PM)

am retired military, one of sites I belong to sent me a list of 50 items that he has lied about in speeches! Not impressed with him at all.

Level -> RE: Obama misspeaks again (5/27/2008 7:20:26 PM)

Obama has taken to wearing the flag lapel pin now... he should have stuck to his guns on that, but the reason he gave for the change was acceptable to me.

JulieorSarah -> RE: Obama misspeaks again (5/27/2008 7:20:45 PM)

Level may this thread is'nt about us.  Possibly but it should be ... to expect standards from the leaders elected, that we don't uphold ourselves seems hipocritical.
So a candidate makes an error, small or big, it's how that is addressed that is the important part ... everyone makes mistakes, does the candidate take the wrap or does the candidate direct the blame/responsibility elsewhere rather than resolving the problem?

Yes our leaders should be informed, should be able to communicate across the spectrum of their electorate, but in all circumstances good and bad it is their behaviour/response/decisions that will affect our day to day lives.

I think we are living in glass houses when we nit pick the candidates over nomenclature and other pedantic detail ... what can they do?

If you expect perfection, first you must give (or is it live) it.

It's called assassination insurance.  The wackos looked at Quayle and said, "It's only 4 years."  Then they put away their sniper rifles and waited for him to lose the next election rather than have to say, "President Quayle."
