He was extruded here, by ONE not two american parents, and then he left to be raised abroad... At best he is HALF american...

Yeah... tell it to the Marines... or the Navy, or the Army, or the Air Force... that their kids aren't 'real' Americans if they were born overseas to foreign spouses...

Tulip, honey, the ignore button is your friend. It has served me well. In fact, I've only been mod-slapped once recently due to my expert use of said button, for referring to  CelticLord with one of the many terms of endearment our drill sergeants used at basic in Ft. Dix.

tulip, you're absolutely right. And yes, something should have been said, and I wished I had.

There isn't anything funny about the Ray comment, if it was meant for humor. If it was meant for something else, then that's a goddam shame.

DA, I agree with you on a lot of shit but you're out on this limb by yourself.  I can't condone Billary suggesting that someone kill him and it isn't any better coming from you.

Is that where the love fest came from?  This explains much.

I would hope that's not your last post Ironitulstahp. DA's line about James Earl Ray was offensive to me and I would hope it would offend most people. Martin Luther King was peaceful and wise and his cause was just and right, and what brought him down was ignorance with a gun.

I disagree with Barack Obama's politics but I don't hate the man, I would hope that we could peacefully disagree if we were to meet, and maybe enjoy a good meal together and a talk. This country is a place where we should feel free to talk and disagree without fear of such ignorance and prejudice as that, hopefully DA can learn from this and grow some spiritually from it.

Hopefully he isn't finding anyone who agrees with that remark, as this nation's fires need water thrown on them, not more gasoline.

That is one of the things I am beginning to really like about the man.  He can disagree with someone without getting angry or mean.  Certain other candidates tend to fail in that respect.  That is a sign that they will be a poor leader.

This shit isn't even high school - it's grade school.

Actually, it's just tactical reality.  Foregoing an effective class of weapons for some ephemeral altruism only engenders defeat.  Like it or no, ridicule, done right, can be quite effective at undermining a political opponent's credibility.

I wasn't talking about the ridicule - I understand that.  I was talking about the whining.  It's become a staple of political discourse.  "They're doing it, too!  Stop picking on us!" is becoming the unofficial national motto.

The bit I quoted from you - "Democrats dont do it so why should the Republicans?" isn't ridicule, it's whining.  "They're doing it, too" isn't a very good justification for much of anything.  What it says is "We're no worse than they are."  I'm willing to believe that's true, but it's hardly a ringing endorsement, is it?

You go on with this - "Kind of like how the Dems continuously pound on McCain for the "100 years" comment even though he was taken out of context responding to a idiotic question. We dont hear about the media bashing Obama....instead every person on the news today is defending Obama. The obvious liberal bias in the media is disgusting."

There's the "Stop picking on us!" part of the whining.  Of course the D's are pounding on McCain, just like the R's are pounding on Obama and Clinton.  Both sides take things out of context - it's easier to find things to ridicule when you do that, and as you say, ridicule is an effective tool.  As for liberal bias in the media, anyone who looks around can see that this is ridiculous.  There may have been a time when the media leaned left, but it's certainly not the case today.  And yet the whining continues...

There's plenty of whining on the other side, too.  I find it pretty annoying no matter where it comes from.

Here's a link to an opinion piece on the Wall Street Journal website called

The Obama Gaffe Machine

that sums things up awfully well.

Ah, so objecting to non-objective reporting is "whining".

Why am I not surprised?

And the double standard goes on....and on....and on....and on.....

And you liberal types wonder at the lack of credibility you possess in the world.....

Now lets be fair Obama was educated in a Muslim school in indonesia till he was a teenager so the boy had more important classes to take than WW2 history....  He may not know who liberated Auschwitz, but where do ya fit in history when you need to cover the basics - Jihad 101, Introduction to Explosives (with Lab) , Box Cutters and You, Basic Flight Theory, etc...

James Earl Ray, where are ya when we need ya!!

He's where he belongs....

Denials and derision aside, Celt, you've hit the nail squarely.  It is about credibility.  It not that "their" guy did whatever, too.  It's that they couldn't have cared less when the shoe was on the other foot.  We live in the days of the 24 hour news/spin cycle, with a widely held assumption that the whole populace has issues with short term memory loss.  How many of those who attack President Bush over the Patriot Act would have a clue what I was talking about if I mentioned Clinton and ECHELON, for example?

The outrage of the day has nothing to do with the real values or goals of the people spouting them.  It's nothing but a talking point and tomorrow's liner for the birdcage, but the hypocrisy piles up.  Apparently the ancient fable of the boy who cried wolf isn't included in the modern curriculum.  The ability to persuade is lost, and we are reduced to one side telling the other to "suck it."  Pity really, since they occasionally have a good point to make.

Speaking of the Patriot Act, how many recall the votes in Congress for that odious piece of legislation?

(Senate:  98-1, with one abstention, House of Representatives, 357-66, with 9 not voting; Democratic vote in HR was 145-62).

The bottom line is that I don't trust Obama to do what is right for the country.
He's talked about "Genocide in Africa" as though he'll send our Troops there!
He's in favor of Amnesty for illegal aliens against the wishes of more than 90% of the American People!
This guy is a global socialist through and through!
He should be talking about how he'll "manage" the U.S. not about foreign countries!
I want a competant Manager in the W.H. not a "leader!"

Exactly.  At the end of the day, the only campaign "issue" that has either substance or merit is this question of trust.

And Obama is not a person worthy of trust.
