Sinimint -> Online Protocol (5/27/2008 6:10:47 PM)

Ok here is my rant - and my very first rant on here!

I was using the new (well newish) chat rooms for the very first time today.  I was happily engaging in conversation with everyone, it was fun - was having a coffee and enjoying the bantering.  When suddenly a domme said that I need to "cap down" in the room if I am a submissive.  Well I was wondering what they meant, when I realised my name started with a capital letter!

I know all about this online "protocol" with capitalising etc.  But tell me something, if I am submissive to one person only and not submissive to anyone else in this entire universe, isn't it my right (and master agrees) to have my name any way I damn well choose?  I am submissive to master only.  I am in no way submissive to anyone else, so why shouldn't I write my name with a capital?  How utterly ridiculous and immature of these people!

When I very very politely explained that we dont live that way, I was very abrubtly removed from the room!  I didn't even have a chance to come back with more - was just shoved out, when moments before I was happily chatting to everyone!

I find this immature, irrational and so very very typical of online behaviour. I used to see this many years ago in yahoo chat.  It's annoying and now that I've calmed down - ok I'm laughing............

Oh well, whatever floats your boat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OmegaG -> RE: Online Protocol (5/27/2008 6:15:22 PM)

she'd have a field day with me.

I'd thank her for her opinion and go on my merry little way.

I also don't see how you could be removed just like that, moderators generally don't just sit on a chat sight waiting to yank someone.  I'd suspect a serendipitous gremlin.  Further, unless she was a moderator, she didn't have to power to make you do anything and I can't imagine a moderator here taking such punative actions.

pffftttt....

stubborngirl -> RE: Online Protocol (5/27/2008 6:21:16 PM)

lol...it's the same thing with the "Y/you", "W/we" crap...I remember the yahell chat days, as well......there were some pretty awesome people in there, though...

Sinimint -> RE: Online Protocol (5/27/2008 6:23:53 PM)

Re: yahoo - there sure were some awesome people stubborngirl, it was fun for a while.  My goodness, real life far exceeds it though.

You expect in a scene like ours that people are open minded about anything, but when it comes to "their" rules, it's their way or the highway - whatever happened to "everyone has their own dynamic"?

Maybe we should all get together and go in the room lol....

Um, no, I don't expect that.

I would have started typing in all caps, just to piss her off.  But, that's just me...[:D]

Shawn1066 -> RE: Online Protocol (5/27/2008 6:45:40 PM)

Yeah, that's pretty common, that's a prime reason why I hardly -ever- frequent chatrooms.  Some Domme with a God complex will probably think that "Fox" is terribly impolite and that it should be "fox"

Because, you know, all submissives and slaves immedietly forfit the right to a capital letter upon birth.

I am my Owner's slave.  To anybody else, I am an equal.

DV's Fox

cjan -> RE: Online Protocol (5/27/2008 6:46:18 PM)

OP, it seems that you, unfortunately, ran into one of the weal twue Dommes in chat. I suggest that you ignore her and go on enjoying being yourself.

Hehehe - yep.  Am laughing now anyway - it's so ridiculous isn't it?

Nymphetish -> RE: Online Protocol (5/27/2008 6:51:53 PM)

I'm submissive as well (actually, I'm a switch, but I'm currently with a dominant man) and I can't stand the protocal. Then again, I'm a bit of a grammar nazi, and it pains me to see "i", "Me", "Wwe", etc.

Nicely put.

Phin -> RE: Online Protocol (5/27/2008 6:53:55 PM)

sometimes I will float into the Me and Mine but its not often... if it is demanded that I do it, I would cap subs names and make all the dom names lowercase

Missokyst -> RE: Online Protocol (5/27/2008 6:55:34 PM)

Grr... I have resisted the urget to visit those chats, NOW I have to do it.  Online protocal is mandatory?  BS.
I need to see if I get kicked.

Master and I are grammar nazi's too.  If there is a long post with the W/we's etc I just dont bother reading it - it hurts my eyes lol.....

Usako -> RE: Online Protocol (5/27/2008 7:02:14 PM)

I have too much respect for the English language to butcher it with that Y/you I/i BS. Let alone to not capitalize the first letter in my name, a proper word.

That chatroom domme needs to get off her high horse and stop taking nonsense so seriously. I would have told her to eff off.

Missokyst -> RE: Online Protocol (5/27/2008 7:06:33 PM)

I popped into one of these rooms, the general discussion chat room and had no problems.
I know on the other side users can create rooms and call the shots, I can see how they can kick you out.  I dont do those rooms.  This side seemed ok as far as chat rooms go.  I went into each of them without problems.

Lynnxz -> RE: Online Protocol (5/27/2008 7:12:56 PM)

Internetting is serious business!!

Don't stress out about it, everyone is a "badass" on the internet. I've been kicked off a few chatrooms as well.

Don't worry, I get thrown out of chat rooms for wanting to talk about BDSM, sex, or anything else all the time.   I am a fake, a troll, and god knows what else.

You forgot weal Dom.  [:D]

It irritates me beyond belief  when people do not capitalize my name because I am a submissive.  However, in saying that, I also realize that there are certain places where no matter what I ask, they will not capitalize my name.  If I choose to go in there, then I deal with it. Otherwise, I expect appropriate grammar.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Online Protocol (5/27/2008 7:40:56 PM)

Unless you are in someone's private chat, or in a social chat in which everyone is informed and agreed upon the rules beforehand, there is no special protocol other than the basic manners you should already know.  Do as thou wilt.
