Well I can see that this was a waste of time.....

Well I suppose I will have to go back to reading reviews in bike mags.

To be fair, you did start off claiming you were going to ditch a perfectly good Triumph for a Harley... did you really expect to be taken seriously after that?

Did I mention its a rigid framed chop?

Its a bit tough on the ole kidneys. Especially on european A roads.

Cheap but tough. :-)

I like the look and style of the V-Rod. I saw plenty at Myrtle Beach Bike week. I know a few people that own V-Rods and really like the bike. A lot of hardcore Harley fans dont like the V-Rod because its water cooled, instead of air cooled. Get out to a big bike show and ask V-Rod owners about how they like it. We all like to talk bikes.

I don't know much about the VRod.. mine was a 77 Lowrider.  I have heard that the Vrod has sportsbike -like handling, though.

**'77 Lowrider, very nice, shovel motor.**

(and contrary to popular belief, the newer harleys don't need constant wrenching).

Have you considered a Buell?

Yes I have considered a Buell, but I prefer cruisers to sport bikes, I'm pretty tall so sitting on a sports style bike is just a tad too confining I find.

The legs stretched out front is much more my style. :-)

OP says Harleys go round bends quick. Is he mad ?

You obviously haven't heard of the V-rod or the Buell for that matter. :-)

In my experience either of the Sportsters (I’ve owned two) and all three of the Vrods handle just fine.
GT is right on when she says the Vrod handles like a Sporty or sportsbike even.

Handling is similar to the Trophy or any of the 650 Triumphs.  I’ve never ridden a Trophy but have had a Bonny and two Tigers.  As I recall, the Tiger and Trophy are essentially the same bike and the Bonny is the dual carb version.  The Vrod is waaay quicker though and that quickness can get you out of trouble

As both petdave and CraZYWiLLiE pointed out the uniqueness of the Vrod is the engine.  Not only water cooled but built by Porsche.  Major plus in my book.

Harleys in general got a justifiable bad rep years ago.  One of mine just would not stay in time and re-timing was a once a week chore.  IMO, the ones built today are every bit as reliable as any of the Rice Burners.

If you like your Trophy, MstrObjectmaker , I think you’ll love a Vrod.

Lot of good info here, Vrod forum:

I wonder if Bob Marley rode a Harley?

Thanks buddy,

Well I sure do like the looks of the V-rod and some of the euro style V-rod street fighters are just the kind of style I like!

Yeah, a Buell is definitely not gonna cut it, then... they have some very innovative ideas, but the whole mass centralization thing they've got going on makes them freakin' SHORT. Holy cow.

Personally, i prefer having my legs underneath me rather than stretched out, but it's all a matter of preference... But for me, if i can ever manage to get ahold of an older Moto Guzzi Sport Scura (Scuro?), i will be a happy, happy guy!

Well, I'm  a Buell guy, and have noted that the Buells, and to a lesser extent the V-Rods are the red-headed stepchildren of the Harley world. At least it seems so with many of the people that ride the traditional Harleys. That said, I haven't heard any really bad things about the V-Rod, and like them myself except for the butt-ugly exhaust pipes that are too big for me to ride that bike comfortably. If I were getting a new cruiser bike, I'd either go with a Triumph or as likely one of the Victory's. I like the looks and the way the weight is distrbuted on the Victory bikes much more than on any Harley.

I am so glad I posted this thread......

You guys are great.......

But then I don't expect most women to get bikes.......

don't make that assumption.. particularly with Harleys... one of their largest growing segments of buyers is women...

You seem a kinda unsettled, you say you like the streetfighter style as well as the corners but you want a v-rod?

Have you really figured out what you really want to achieve on a motorbike?

We're a happy lot, as you can tell .

Can you rent bikes? That would be a good way to try them out and find out what you like best.

PS: I'm European too. Perhaps this explains my jaded and miserable attitude to the ultimate American riding machine?

I always thought that was Jenna Jameson??? guess not

The V-Rods are one of a kind bikes, not a kind I like, but if ya do, go with it... (personally I love the look, feel and everything else about the Softails, and my pa had the greatest FXR I ever saw...

Renting seems like the best way to find which one ya want

All I will say to you is check out the V-rods on these sites

http://www.badland.net/

http://www.no-limit-custom.com/bikes.htm

http://www.v-rod.ch/custom_bikes/

http://www.taylormade-wheels.co.uk/index.php

Then I think you may get an idea of what potential I see in the V-rod.

Could you be a V-rod convert perhaps?

If you like the V-rod and you like old style choppers perhaps you might like what Matt Hotch has done with a V-rod?

http://www.hotmatchcustomcycles.com/

His Vincent Black Shadow custom is pretty awesome too!
