crouchingtigress -> Question for humanponies (5/31/2008 3:31:06 PM)

Ok so i am in lust....this showed up in craigs list today, and made my heart gallop....http://honolulu.craigslist.org/mau/for/701347557.html

but i have a question to folks is this too heavy to pull for one pony?
is there anything to modify it to make it work for humans?
how many humans do you think it would take to pull it?

thanks!

Asherdelampyr -> RE: Question for humanponies (5/31/2008 3:36:20 PM)

prolly 3 or 4 people at least...

TheGorenSociety -> RE: Question for human ponies (5/31/2008 3:40:09 PM)

Yes, way too much of a load unless you want to get hurt doing it .6-10 min, would be needed to just move it at a normal pace and the ponies would have to be in considerable shape. If you load it with  four adults that is almost additional 1000-1200 lbs. Each average person can normally pull between 60-100 pounds statically for a considerable distance.Nice, decent price.

Okay, I had to laugh at the visual I'm getting from this:  Don't you think your friend in Lahaina would go check it out for you and see if he can pull it to see how heavy it is?? And take some of the boys with him to see how many "horses" are needed?

You should email the sellers and see what they think. XD

It can't be that heavy though... aren't quarter horses pretty small?

an old game me and some friends used to play at a park here, where we would hide the carriages... it took 4 of us, all in reasonably good shape, to pull one of em, they look to be about the same size

crouchingtigress -> RE: Question for humanponies (5/31/2008 3:46:20 PM)

I have never known him to be into pony play....so it never occured to me to ask him...

but good idea thanks Cali [;)]

He spoke with great gleam in his eye about this coming Halloween in Lahaina and what he wanted to do.  Even if he didn't want to pull, he could orchestrate the test!

aloha Lynnxz
quarter horses are med to large sized horses....but that is a good idea to ask the sellers....the carrige is about 1 hour from me, maybe ill drive over there and check it out....great idea...

Lynnxz -> RE: Question for humanponies (5/31/2008 3:58:06 PM)

Eep, my bad. Shows you how much I know about horses. [:'(]

Quivver -> RE: Question for humanponies (5/31/2008 4:03:18 PM)

the non human pony that would usually pull this close to 6 feet in height at it's back and would weigh in at aprox 1400.
hope that helps....

(edited to add that's a GREAT price!)

crouchingtigress -> RE: Question for humanponies (5/31/2008 4:24:03 PM)

did you have horses Quiver?

TheGorenSociety -> RE: Question for humanponies (5/31/2008 4:24:27 PM)

less then two miles I have seen carriages like that modified to use in pony play, but there is a lot of dead weight. Most of the pony carts made out there for pony play are no more then 250 pounds average weight wise at most. We live in horse country we see allot of carriages around here.

Quivver -> RE: Question for humanponies (5/31/2008 4:44:03 PM)

I'm not myself without one or a herd of them around.  [;)]

LadyLynx -> RE: Question for humanponies (5/31/2008 5:16:13 PM)

Now, I don't know much about pony play,(yet!  And yes I love the looks of that carrige to!) or about how much a human pony, that is healthy, could do, but..............maybe if it were a 1 bench, with a top, that comes up from the back? though I think even that, would probably be better with 2 human ponies. And of course depending on the weight of the riders.

CruelDesires -> RE: Question for humanponies (5/31/2008 5:34:47 PM)

I would guestimate that 4 male ponys who are in excellent shape would be able to pull that carraige on a relativaly flat surface without too much stress. No way that I can see will one or two be able to manage it without alot of stress and strain.

Edited> Yes I own a pony cart and yes, I have done some exploration in that kink. :)

Maya2001 -> RE: Question for humanponies (5/31/2008 7:10:48 PM)

A quarter horse weighs 1000 to 1300 pounds and better designed for draft pulling since they walk on all 4's with powerful neck, shoulders and hindquarters  a spine that is used horizontally rather than vertically for man ----so compare the weight ratios between man and horse   and you need at least 6 men to pull and it won't be for the same distance as a horse can pull since they are not physically designed the same and would be more apt to suffer back injuries.

You would be better off looking at goat carts or having someone build for you  here is some plans for  http://www.goatworld.com/articles/purpose/goatcart.shtml
