Well, they have a right to assemble to exercise their free speech....but i personally find the confederate flag a blatantly racist symbol and i'm sad to hear this is happening.

This is the second time the rainbow flag has surfaced in this thread, and this gay guy has to object.

DC, I wasn't "comparing", I simply said that a lot of people don't like that flag either, albeit for different reasons.
I guess the "reasons" aren't important, whichever flag you hoist you can count on someone or a lot of people being "offended" by it.
Fuck 'em I say.

Lets see if I can address a couple of questions aimed at me.

1) Whether or not people's "rights" were being violated, they believed it and were willing to fight for the way of life they feared they would lose.  To waste time with you continually saying "What rights?" is ridiculous and I have niether the time nor inclination.  I could play the same game whenever anyone starts whining about how their rights are being taken away today.  The belief was there and they fought and died for that belief.
2) Why not put the US Flag on the car and call it the "General Grant?"  Please.  We're going for pure aesthetics here.  The car would not have looked half as cool and people would have whined about the misuse of the American flag in that manner.
3) Why should we in the south not just "Get the fuck over it?"  Why don't you forget your family history and the way your family lived in past times.  Its our country's history and we want to remember it .... the good and the bad.  Why don't you ask the jews to get the fuck over the holocaust or the indians to get the fuck over the trail of tears. 
For those of you who have yet to realize it, the truth of the situation doesn't sit in your high school history book that you probably didn't even open.  There is only the tip of the iceberg in there.  There are numerous reprintoings of leyyers and diaries from those years in libraries today.  Look for them and read what those people went through and what they fought for.  Maybe then you can see why we're "American by birth.  Douthern by the grace of God (or whichever deity you worship)." 
After living in the north for 9 abysmal years, you guys can have it.

Status: offline 		dc I'm saying the roots of the rebllion were started long before slavery was an issue when the 1828 tarriff acts started the ball rolling. Tarriffs that hurt Southern agriculture and helped northern manufacturing and western agriculture.

ever even heard about South Carolina Exposition and Protest a little paper printed in 1828 speaking directly to the fact that these tarriffs were unconstitutional written by non other than John C Calhoun might recognize that name from later docuuments about the civil war. And long before there was a national abbolitionist movement in the US.

Ignoring the tarriffs is as much a mistake as ignoring the idea of slavery as a cause of the war.

i take it Yr not African-American?  The rights and way of life fought for by southern soilders were based on the enslavement of a group of people kidnapped or sold from their homes, brought here under the most horrific conditions, and kept in the most degrading manner known to Man...complete enslavement.
 
i've lived down south for many years...and while i miss the beauty of it and many other wonderful things about it, You, Sir can keep the blatant racism i encountered amoung many people.  Up north we're usually too embarrassed to say out loud the kind of things i had to listen to down there from some people.

And people wonder why those cities are literally in decay right now......

Actually I don't know that, because it's not a fact.  "Yankee" has a number of different meanings and no one is precisely sure of it's origin.  It's been used by Southernors in reference to Northerners well after the American Civil War.  If you'd read a little more, you'd know that.  I told you before to stop getting your philosophy and history from action movies, Smith.

Yeah, cheese grits are great. Hush-puppies, I haven't had them  since last time I ate up at Dillard House.

I like them way I described them 'cause it's sort of like Tex-mex grits.

In a way, a Tamal is like a stuffed grits roll steamed in a wrapper.
