Ever read or hear something that just strikes home and you find yourself jotting it down so you never forget it?

The 'signature' at the bottom of my posts was stated by a college English professor.  Jotted it in my notebook and have never forgotten it.

Share your favorite quotations here.  Doesn't have to be from Albert Einstein or Aristotle.  Can be from anyone.

An example to start that seems appropriate here...

"To avoid criticism: do nothing, say nothing, be nothing."
Elbert Hubbard

Who said that?
Having been diagnosed and treated for that affliction, I am really curious.

'We must become ignorant
Of all we’ve been taught,
And be, instead, bewildered.

Run from what’s profitable and comfortable
If you drink those liqueurs, you’ll spill
The spring waters of your real life.

Forget safety.
Live where you fear to live.
Destroy your reputation.
Be notorious.

I have tried prudent planning
Long enough, from now
On, I’ll live mad.'

It's easier to lie to others than to stop deceiving yourself. (French proverb).

Caribbean, garage, inquiry, controversy, versatile, fertile, Warwick, nauseous, futile and 'z' are all words the Americans can't pronounce properly. (John Thomas, a friend of mine).

It was we, the people; not we, the white male citizens; nor yet we, the male citizens; but we, the whole people, who formed the Union.... Men, their rights and nothing more; women, their rights and nothing less. ~Susan B. Anthony

What do our opponents mean when they apply to us the label "Liberal?" If by "Liberal" they mean, as they want people to believe, someone who is soft in his policies abroad, who is against local government, and who is unconcerned with the taxpayer's dollar, then ... we are not that kind of "Liberal." But if by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal." [September 14, 1960]  John F. Kennedy
