You're right about that; after all there's Bobby Flay, Emeril LaGasse and Guy Fieri (all of whom are on Food Network, one of my favorite cable channels). *walks to the kitchen to make some deep fried pickles.

i don't have a slave [:(], i am a sub. So i am the one doing the F**KING dishes.  and the cooking.

Besides, all the slaves that have talked to me and said they wanted to serve me, always want the same thing.  And it isn't doing the house chores!

GreedyTop -> RE: -=Why men shouldn’t do dishes=- (6/6/2008 2:21:35 PM)

I don't mind doing the dishes (I'd even bring dishwasher soap, RS......). It's the rest of the kitchen clean up I hate... stovetops, ovens,  counters, floors.....

Just off the top of my head, consider, if you will:
Paul Bocuse
Paul Prudhomme
Mario Batali
Jean Troigrois
AlainChanel
Ferdnand Pont
Alain  Ducasse
Norman Van Aiken
etc., ad nauseum

Oh yes...there IS Alice Waters. A tip of my toque to the only lady who, imho, can be spoken of in the same breath as these Titans of the Table..

Check this link on the topic and be sure to read ALL of it before getting out yer flame throwers..

i have a friend who was Julia Child's personal chef the last year of her life. according to my friend ..she was a kind woman with a genuine warmth and loved to laugh. i started reading cookbooks and experimenting with food at 12...Julia Child's cook book  "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" was the first cookbook that i read and attempted to recreate meals from. it was through reading her cookbooks i learned how to make a "rue" which has been the foundation of many a great meal.
i was happy to know she had a such a good person and a great cook in my friend preparing her meals in her last days.
lol now that was a too serious for RSSir's thread...i will try not to get too too serious in the future...lol

may we all find our bliss.

beargonewild -> RE: -=Why men shouldn’t do dishes=- (6/6/2008 8:24:28 PM)

*chuckles wildly*

Not to be picky or anything everhope but I think you meant roux (a mixture of wheat flour and fat. It is the basis of three of the mother sauces of classical French cooking: sauce béchamel, sauce velouté, and sauce espagnole. Butter, vegetable oils, or lard are common fats used. It is used as a base for gravy, other sauces, soufflés, soups and stews.)

cjan -> RE: -=Why men shouldn’t do dishes=- (6/7/2008 12:06:27 AM)

By all accounts, Julia Child was a gracious, kind and fun lady, to say nothing of her contribution of introducing the basics ( and more) of French cooking to the American public.

R.I.P., Julia

I love the pattern on your dishes!  Where did you get them?

purepleasure -> RE: -=Why men shouldn’t do dishes=- (6/7/2008 3:45:20 AM)

I taught my son to cook as he was growing up.  He is a great cook, imho.  He has started teaching his partner how to cook.  I'm glad they live with me, because they usually have a DELICIOUS meal ready for us to eat when I get home from work. And, they also do the dishes and clean-up afterwards.  (Yes, I know I'm a lucky woman)

What I really enjoy is that they will watch food network for new ideas for meals, and make a list of the ingredients they need, for me to pick up when I go grocery shopping.

I take my turn at the cooking on the weekends, but they still do the cleanup.(Yep, yep, truly lucky indeed)

I watched her shows for years. I couldnt imagine ever doing the recipes. The shows went so fast. But years later, the techniques and basics she showed helped me. I knew how to hold the instrament, make the basic roux, etc. She was a wonderful woman, she was funny and a great contributer to American culture. I cried when she passed.

CalifChick -> RE: -=Why men shouldn’t do dishes=- (6/7/2008 10:39:18 AM)

Several years ago around the holidays I made a recipe from Julia Child... in english it is Triple Chocolate Bombe with Chocolate Sauce.  Chocolate cake slices fit into a mold, the center filled with chocolate mousse, then topped with more cake slices.  Chilled, unmolded, and covered with chocolate glaze.  Served in very small portions with some fresh whipped cream.

My family all said it was too rich. (blasphemy)

I took it to work and was promptly informed that my family were all amateurs and I was forbidden from spending the holidays with them ever again, but instead must spend all holidays cooking for my co-workers.

*SIGH*  I should have listened to them.

I took a picture of the set… well most of it. I didn’t get out the serving plates.
Dish Set
Model & Manufacturer

They are called “Luscious” by Savoir Vivre and were discontinued in 1997.  You can still get them but they fetch a fortune in those replacement stores.

Dont forget Rachael Ray.....shes the bomb.

cjan -> RE: -=Why men shouldn’t do dishes=- (6/8/2008 12:14:25 PM)

Sorry, even Rachael admits, again and again, that she is not a chef. She drives me bonkers and is , imo, the female version of Mr Food.
