You clearly have never heard of Jonathan Edwards...or for that matter St. Paul.  Your statement is at best ill informed.

Sorry to say, but the Amish can't be nearly as prudish as many would like to think...  I mean honestly, lets look at the names of PA towns in Amish country..  Intercourse, Blue Ball, Bird N Hand, Paradise.  lololol

I would indeed buy paddles, riding crops and whips from the Amish or anyone that has a very good connection with them. I know that they are well made and last much better than most of the crap that is sold any more.
True, you get what you pay for,yet for low priced things, I will buy from the Amish any day.

Cant remember which one of the sects but one of the horse and buggy non mechanised lifestyle folks take great pleasure in paddling and even using a riding crop, buggy whip or cane to chastise their errent children and wives in front of the community after church in the church/meeting hall.....  Now I would rais the question of authenticity if it was violet wands made by the Amish.

Agreed. And I have.  The things the Amish make are for work animals, etc.  What they do with them behind closed doors is their business.  Or lack thereof if some assmptions are wrong.

Crops, Whips, and such things were originally made for use on animals, and it was human's (thankfully) twisted brains that turned them into sexual tools.

So why is it so strange that something made for use on work animals, made by the Amish, are being resold?  If the pieces actually ARE Amish made they really are some damned good quality.  So what's the big deal?

How is it any different than going to the local Seed & Feed to get bits, crops and whips for cheaper (but better quality many times) than the stuff in the adult stores?

Gee, thanks a lot, darchChylde......

I don't know if this is true or not, but, in my line of work, I once spoke with a young Amish male.  He was concerned that he was "too big".  (Ha!!  Like such a thing is possible.)   He told me that Amish boys, from a young age, had weights attached to their penis (and balls, too??), to stretch them, to make them larger.

Who knows how kinky the Amish might be?  I find it hard to believe that a buggy whip has never been used on anything but a horse.  And a bread paddle only used for baked goods.  Without electricity, you can't watch TV,  so what else is there to do at night?   And those oil lamps do provide some very soft, flattering  "mood lighting".........   ~wink~

Perhaps a better statement is the idea of Sex even with your spouse as evil is a modern one.  St. Paul (and his twister of words St. Augustine) pushed forward a Catholic version of the sin of lust, and Edwards' Puritanical Calvinism definitely followed that bent. The fact that the Amish aren't generally Calvinists doesn't matter here.  (Most are Anabaptists.) The Amish share many of the same cultural touchstones with Calvinism, including the basic belief on Sin.  Lust is a sin, in the same way Greed is a sin but it's okay to want to do better for yourself and your family.  It isn't a sin to enjoy sex with your wife or husband in the Amish Culture (or even for that matter for Calvinists).  The sin is Lust. Lust in this context doesn't just mean sexual thoughts- there is a specific context which is very important here: Lust is the desire for that which is forbidden.   Sex with your spouse is a private joy.  There is a big difference.  To bring it full circle:  It's the Victorians who really enforced the sex only for the sake of children model, and while Queen Victoria was proposing nightgowns that close at the bottom for wives to stave off hubbie's advances, the Amish weren't reading newspapers.

Aha! I have the answer straight from the horse's mouth!

Dear angel42604,

You've caused a bit of a stir over at the BDSM messageboard site CollarMe.com. We are wondering about the seemingly paradoxical nature of Amish BDSM equipment.
Were these items made for painplay? Or for punishing children? Or simply to sell to us silly outsiders?
Either way, thought I'd let you know: http://www.collarchat.com/m_1904380/tm.htm
