The threads lately have me thinking of my last time I went paddle shopping at Mr. S. (Sigh. I miss Mr. S- if you haven't been in their 'new' store... just go), and something the salesboi said to me still resonates. "Women Flog, Men Cane." Now he's probably had a LOT of experience selling implements, but I wonder: is it a true generalization?

I cane, I do not flog. So, Id say I dont fit that. My mentor caned, too and she was female. The one who taught me to flog was male. So, Im gonna say no on that, it isnt a TRUE generalization. It might be a fitting one of the customers at that particular location, perhaps. But far from a general consensus. DV

She can't have worked their long, I would almost say the opposite, flogging is hard service work and women don't have to bother with that crap, caning is real pain and they can dish it out.

Wow I have noticed that. I wouldnt say that I dont cane, but I prefer flogging and i recall noticing that some Doms I know prefer caning, I wonder why. you do mean Mr. S'sweb store dont y9ou? THat should get a pretty widespread sample.

Another trend reinforcing SimplyMichael's idea is that women were for a long time the most likely to be using a singletail. smaller bodies (in general) and less upper body strength are easily overcome when you use tools that don't require upper body strength to use.

Actually, I prefer whipping to caning or flogging, though I certainly do the latter two as well. That having been said, I bought both of my canes in person at Mr S. One of the staff even dropped his trousers for me so that I could try out one of the canes before I bought it. Now, that's customer service.

I prefer to use a cane (or two..damn I miss my ex roomie sometimes).. flogging I like too, but it tends to wear me out quicker.

I'm not gonna belittle canes, crops or even the dreaded evil sticks. I'm going to express why I love floggers and really they can be just as evil too. First I'll admit it, I love the visual look of a flogger! I enjoy looking at floggers, in fact when ever I see them in a store, I'm drawn to them like a moth to flame. The different colors, construction and weights. There's a wide variety. I Love floggers so much that I actually attach one to my Micophone stand when I'm playing out in front of people. You would not believe the number of people that call a flogger a whip! LOL... I think floggers are somewhat misunderstood and often under rated by many people in general. I enjoy the fact, you can delivery nice deep thuds or nasty stings, or sensually caress. Hell at the right intensity they can feel a bit like a massage. What's I'm expressing here is that it's a very versitile thing! All depends upon how you use it, What weight it is and what it's made out of and constructed. Sure I Love the way they look, and there are some really beautiful floggers. I love the fact that I can tease somebody.. trace around their skin... something about having a flogger spread out. You know spin it around like you would a mop.. where the strands go outward... then let it come to rest over a face, a breast.. where ever... It's a sort of visual thing.. yet at the same time.. I'm toying and teasing somebody with it. Will it be a stinging snap or a deep chest thuding blow... will it be more like a blow that feels like a massage... perhaps a caress of the skin.. Pehaps.. I cover somebody's face with it. It feels a bit like having hair in your face. Just something to mess with somebody with! Fun basically! Can't really say, I've had the same amount of fun messing with somebody with a crop! Mind you I have nothing against Crops, those are great things to play with... but clearly not my favorite! I love the fact, I can hold a flogger in my hand... spin and wrap my fingers with it, while holding in front of somebody... making my verbal threats.. or eluding to the many different ways I can use it upon them! Love the whole visual show I can put on in front of somebody! Watch their facial expressions and all. Don't know what more to say! Big difference between heavy floggers and light weight floggers and what the hell they are made of.. and constructed. Still all and all, I Love the looks of them as well. Love the different things I can do with them.

I do fit this. I flog much more often than I cane. My particular style is to switch things about as I'm building intensity. Still, I use more floggers than anything else. To avoid tiring, I just swap in some dragon tails now and again.

My Master prefers his array of floggers, crops, and other implements to a cane. For him its an expression of power, a release of frustration, and a way of relaxing, to use a flogger. Sometimes he uses one in a way that feels delicious; other times it can be excruciating. He uses it to put me in whatever state he wants me in - heated, pained, agonized - whatever. This doesn't make any sense to me at all. Canes and floggers are such completely different sensations. What in the world would gender have to do with it?

A surefire way to raise a debate of any kind is to make a broad generalization. So I'm going to make to make one: Women breathe. Men Respirate. As for the gender preference of impact play... I'd say it's more limited by cash flow than chromosome. namaste.

I don't own a cane and I rarely flog. I don't fit a lot of the generalizations and conceptions about kinky folk but I've realized that for quite some time now.
