Worst place i've ever lived was Flint MI (in the '70's, in case there are any Flint boosters amoung U/us). Worst place i ever stayed for any extended period of time was New Jersey...though i hear it does have nice parts. What about Y/you? pinksugarsub

Detroit Ghetto – but it was fabulous art deco building. Just had to make sure you won the knife fights in the hallway and your way home. Some lil’ f*cker from the same building broke in and stole my phone. I do not know why he took only the phone? I had some nice stuff. The money was hidden behind the wall sockets and switch plates … but still… a phone? Anyway, I called him out of his apt. I was wearing my Nazi shit kickers, and this dude pulls a knife. I don’t know what came over me but reached down and pulled my knife out of my boot then throw it to someone in the now gathering crowd. I said, “it just wouldn’t be fair to you if I had a knife too.” The I took an offense stance. LMAO He ran away and sent his girl back with the phone and an apology. I couldn’t let some pilfer my pad even if it was a stupid phone. If did not face a possible knife fight to get it back, it would have become open season on the only white boy in the building. Detroit. I was about 13 when I had my first friend die in my arms. Lost a few more along the way. I have scars on my cheek from shotgun ricochets. Detroit… I loved it, I hated it.

shit forgot to answer the question: no scars, no knives though ghetto in philly, i lived there for half a summer at 17. i was afraid to walk off the block without one of the kids next door (kids next door: 2 16. 2 17, both girls pregnant, no jobs) The kid of the woman i was staying with stole my money and her money... i mentioned it in passing to the kids next door - he couldn't leave his house for a week because he was afraid of getting shot. Cop friend of mine dropped me off there one sunday night, had his gun in his lap by the time we got there. heard 5 gun shots the next block over, girl next to me said "god dammit, either the motherfucker's dead or you got bad aim" (entire reaction in the house) .... honestly i loved it while i was there, 17yr old goth girl whom apparently no one would fuck with because "they're afraid if they come after you and they don't kill you, shit even if they do kill you, you'll come back and do some of that voodoo shit" (actual quote from kids next door) ... hey whatever keeps you safe right???

the last house my ex and i lived in - worst place. a share house with 8 others - worst building happiest home!

Ghetto in DC lived there many years and was one of the two white families. I made some good friends there and I had some enemies just because they didn't like my color. But I learned a lot about people while living there. ~Lashra

downtown Los Angeles when i was a kid. i was there for 2 years and the only fair skinned one for a few blocks around. i got beat up for 6 months after moving there until i figured i'm not doing it again, i'll fight back even if they kill me. they didn't kill me, but i got their respect and after that had a lot of buddies. i don't remember much about that fight, but they told me i was pretty vicious for a "skinny little white girl".

I have lived in so many "crappy' neighborhood. Uptown in Chicago. Great neighborhood, beautiful architecture, near the lake, but tons of homeless people. begging and crapping in the alley. i had 2 big dogs. no one bothered me. then there was that neighborhood with the gang out back. But the yard was really nice and neighbors were friendly. then there was the neighborhood where the teenage gang hung out in front of the corner store next door. They beat some guy up when he smashed into my exes car. Plus my best friend was in the building. Then there was the neighborhood with all the drug activity around the corner. I had a gorgeous condo with a great view. But when the hostage taking happened, I knew i had to get out. i wanted my kid to be able to play. All these places had an upside and a downside. I have learned in my life that I can get along with anyone. I learned to be genuine and down to earth. people trust genuine people and will sniff out the phonies.

the lower westside of Chicago. i was mugged one day while riding the train - the guy just walked right up putting me in a chokehold and snatched a necklace that was around my neck. the other passengers in the "L" car didn't say or do anything to assist me. second worse place - where i'm living now ...on the edge of Englewood.

Not sure I can compete with you guy's who have lived in US ghetto's....... However the crappiest place I've ever lived in was an ex council housing estate in Crawley W. Sussex, near to Gatwick airport where I worked for a time. That was about 3 years ago. Most of the houses were privately owned but were rented out the rest were still owned by the local council. I shared a 3 bed house with a one time friend, £700 or $1400 a month rent. Plus bills. (It was a huge improvement over my last residence......a bedsitter in Folkstone Kent! lol) A pretty rough area, lots of drugs, kids hanging around drinking booze, rubbish everywhere......lol I woke up one day to find some kids had stolen all the alloy wheels of my old Beemer.......left it lying on its axles....... I jacked it up, put it on blocks........but the council came along and left an abandoned vehicle notice on the widscreen, that informed me that if I didn't move the car within two weeks they would tow it away and have it crushed........so thats what happened to the best car I ever owned.......a 1985 BMW 524TD........so not a huge loss.....but still a pain in the ass.....lol I kept my Triumph chop in the hall! lol

Chillum, MD..............actually had a shoot out in the bldg caddycorner to us, bet the police/a drug dealer. I had to crawl thru the fields WITH the SWAT team to get out safely. Later that night, after my daughter was finished using her potty (no comment!), the drug dealer's gf, threw a brick thru our window, filling the potty up w/glass (we were in bed at that time) and she set the bldg on fire (her bf's bldg cuz he was arrested). As the tenants were evacuating, shots were being fired at us! I was holding my daughter.............shot or burn...........hmmm, what a choice!

Crawley's boring, but at least it gave us The Cure (my grandparents used to live in Crowborough, just down the road).
