Status: offline 		I am supporting Obama now.  I refuse to vote for McCain.   I believe some of the white men in this country may be a little nervous because of something they may lose, and that is control.
Now the white men in America may soon learn how white women in American have been treated.  We have been treated as second class citizens all of our grown lives.
Just something to think about.

Oh, I "get it". What YOU don't "get" is that team names were not given to be derogatory. If they were in some way offensive, it was out of ignorance not mean-spiritedness. 
 
We have a mountain here that was known as Squaw Peak for decades.  We didn't know that the word Squaw was a derrogatory term.  We just thought it meant an Indian woman.  When Lori Piestwa became our first casualty of the Iraq War, the peak was renamed Piestewa Peak in her honor.
 
When you know better, you do better.

I just about threw a brick at a political analyst last night on CNN that made the comment that "If she had not been married to Bill Clinton and the first lady, she never would have made it this far."

i can honestly not think of one time i was treated like a second class citizen.....i have worked hard and gotten where i wanted to in life.....enjoyed many opportunities thanks to the women who sacrificed and fought that came at a time before me....yes....but im 46 and i feel the road was paved for me by the time i was ready to start hiking down it.

how do you feel you have been treated as a second class citizen all your life?  im not being a smartass, i really want to know.

Hello??? I'm the one pointing out that derogatory names are not a good thing, and you are the one coming up with rationalizations for them. 
'Squa' simply meant woman to some tribes...the English perjorative word 'squaw' meant woman of the race deemed inferior by the Europeans...same for 'Redskins', etc.

I agree.  She made it REGARDLESS of Bill.  And yes, she would protect Obama.. just like Cheney protects George. The fear of Cheney becoming next in line was enough to protect Bush from harm.

"Hello" yourself.  Guess you don't know what it means.  Here ya go Definition and History of the word Squaw  As you can see, the initial use was benign but as usual things get perverted (and not in a good way) over time.

The difference here is that Obama is no GWB. Clinton and Cheney arguably share traits of partisanship and Washington connections, but there is no way that Obama will have any equivalent of the cabal of Cheney-Perle-Rumsfeldt-Wolfowitz-Libby-Rove --- strictly designed to neuter Democrats, spook and disinform the American public, and push forth a fringe, right wing agenda.

In terms of getting things done, Obama plans to shoot for a bipartisan coalition. A firewall, spin machine, and bludgeon are antithetical to that.

I'm just hoping white people develop a better comfort zone about minorities. Obama exudes confidence, competence, and leadership. Best of all, he's interested in an American agenda --- not a minority agenda. Its hard for some to grasp that, but after they experience it --- their hearts and minds might change.

I'd be delighted to give Obama a "chance".

Let him run for governor of Illinois.  Hell, let him move down to Texas and run for governor down here.  Let him serve more than half a term in the US Senate....and actually run a committee or two.

I'm all for giving Obama and anyone else a "chance".  What I'm not for is giving a naive, inexperienced clown a seat in the Oval Office and let him do on-the-job training.

GWB at least was a governor first.

Neither does caressing your testicles and adjusting your package on TV during the National Anthem. Maybe holding your nuts is the appropriate thing to do for the indonesian natl anthem but this is a disgrace and typical Obama....

Status: offline 		Anything is better than the past eight years, but McCain.   He is too old.  We need fresh meat in the Whitehouse with new ideas.  McCain is running off his war record.  I don't dispute that record.  Anyone who is a POW has my respect; however, that does not make them a President.
It will be history making with Obama and Hilary.
