The "real" Doms i've dated and become friends with have all had very strong feelings about whether They wanted a submissive -- which Some did -- or a slave -- which Others did.  
 
Do some Doms assume that any submissive is a slave "waiting" for the right Dom to come along?  It's not true of me; i'll never be anything but a submissive. 
 
Is this "sub/slave" phrasing just a poorly chosen turn of phrase?  A signal of a 'nilla guy looking for kinky sex?   A catagory of BDSM types i hadn't heard of before?

You know pink, every time you start yet another thread, you ask for peoples thoughts. Fact is, everyone has given their thoughts on every subject you bring up. Many times. Try using the search function to find the thousands of links to everything you ask about. Then, if you have an original thought or question, post a thread about it.

You have every right to be here, and every right to ask whatever you want. I understand that people want to learn and learning is brilliant, but you seem to be more about getting that gigantic pink font all over the forum and hiking up your post count, than actually trying to learn anything.

Each and every profile written here on CM to me represents (a) a statement of fact if someone isn't looking and (b) a shot in the dark if they are still looking. I've yet to come across anyone with a crystal ball.

I can be in any one of a number of roles, none of them really matter as much as who I'm with.

you do realize that miss pink has been around for awhile and has more than a few different nics to her credit.  so... considering how long she has been on the forums... it is surprizing some of the questions she is asking........ some are just slow learners I guess.

What I'm trying to express go a little easy on the Jello molds, take time to get to know the person behind the profile instead of being tripped up over the use of a few labels.    The only way to know for certain is to turn over the rock look and explore it.  If it's not right move on to turning over another rock.   There's a lot of rocks and stones to look under on CM. 

I have to agree with what has been pasted above....labels are all well and good on a shallow level..gives you a basic feel of preferences...but the exploration of the person as a whole is where your imagination, interest is captured.~goes back under her rock..:0)~....Tempting

when i was searching i would stay clear of those types of profiles however i did ask dominants who've worded their profiles with "seeking sub/slave" what they were looking for.

some didn't know what they're truly searching for while the rest wanted a submissive with slave tendencies (which to me means - you're looking for a slave because i believe there's no "grey" area between submissive and slave).

I've seen debate after debate about what a slave "is" and what a submissive "is" and I've come to the conclusion that these terms mean different things to different people; I think Some see the 2 terms as interchangable, while Others have very clear ideas about the differences between submissive and slave, ultimately, I'm only interested in what girl in question defines herself as and whether it fits with what I think of her definition-afterall, if you want to know about health as a health care professional, so a submissive is whatever she says she is and a slave is what ever she says she is.

If a Dom is looking for a sub/slave I don't take much notice because, like you, I don't always trust their definition.

people have various motivations for what they seek and why.
 
some Doms seek out a partner that will refer to themselves as one of two specific labels(sub or slave), yet carry on an otherwise traditional, egalitarian, relationship.  the label IS their kink/fetish.
 
some Doms seek a person who will submit in the bedroom, and nowhere else.  to them this person submits to them as a sexual "slave", but they don't refer to them  as either "sub" or "slave".  In their profile they might say they are seeking a sub/slave as a "type" of person they are looking for, in a sexual BDSM way.  it's another way of saying "bottom", to some.
 
some Doms seek a person who will submit to them in all things, in all ways, yet have an aversion to the label "slave".
 
some Doms perceive a distinct difference in the terms "sub" and "slave" as it affects their own personal reality and some only see the distinction as a matter of personal preference, not a statement of absolute reality for anyone.
 
some Doms perceive a "slave" to be an owned/collared "sub".  perhaps they are looking for both.
 
some Doms seek one who will submit to them, on their terms, and don't care if that one wants to call themselves sub, slave or purple spotted goat.
