Hello everyone. I recently purchased a breathable ball gag with leather straps on it and when I took it out of the box and the plastic bag there was a really strong chemical smell. I spot washed it with warm soapy water and a washrag but that didnt do anything to the smell. I really hate to throw the damn thing away as it was rather expensive but Im at my wits end. Now my entire toy bag smells funky since I became frustrated and chucked it in there with all the other toys. So if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, Im all ears. It's likely phthalates, I would throw it out. I've bought a couple that I couldn't tell about until I got them home. Had a couple of vibs and they cause a burning sensation. No matter how many times you wash them it doesn't go away...it leeches out of the plastic. I've thrown away all my toys that have that chemical smell. Thank you all in advance =^_^= Goddess Ariana Goddess Ariana, the first thing I did with a new ball gag was to soak the gag part in Listerine to not only kill any bacteria on the gag, but to eliminate the strong bitter taste (and it gives it a minty scent). If it's the entire gag that smells (straps, too), I'd try airing it out for a few days, if not a week or even longer. I'd also try bathing the leather straps with leather conditioner to see if you can force the natural leather scent back in. If that doesn't work, I'd just return it and get another one that didn't smell funky. As for your toy bag, I'd air everything out, too...maybe even put an open container of Arm & Hammer to see if that soaks up the funky smell, too. I hope this helps. [:)]

Buy sillicone gags. Im not a bottom, but I cant imagine being distracted from a scene by that horrible smell, Im sure it doesnt taste any better.

I asked about this when I went to NY, I figured the guy I was visiting would know what I was talking about, and he did. The strong chemical smell isn't from the latex like I though it was, but from plastisizers (spelling?) that they put in the latex to keep it soft. It burns the hell out of my throat. Air it out for a while, and soak it in soapy water- not bleach. If that still doesn't work , cut the tip off a condom, slip it over the ball, and tuck the ends into the holes drilled through the ball. I have yet to find any medical silicone ball gags, if someone knows of any, let me know.

Tantus makes the best tasting gags ever... silicone so they're taste free. I've also made myself a dog toy out of the orbee dog balls. They are a super thick rubber substance of some sort and one of the styles they make is minty flavored for minty fresh dog breath. I use it to flag puppy but it also serves as a great ball gag on occasion.

I really like my Flashington ballgag. As SNoB mentioned, the shape of the Tantus gags is a little different. I call them the 'binky style" ballgags. Flashington's slide easily off of the leather strap for cleaning/sanitizing.

I would be more concerned about what is causing the smell if it is that bad, since just trying to make it taste better and smell better probably won't remove the underlying cause of the smell which means the cheicals causing it could still remain. I have gone through some gags, but most didnt taste or smell as bad as you are eluding to. Some ball gags come with an FDA approved ball wich are safe for in mouth use. If it was a hard rubber (solid) ball type. i doubt you will get the smell out

The Tantus "ball" gag is more like a pacifier gag but it is slightly too large for my very small in size mouth, their penis gag fits better but isn't always what I want. As far as ball gags go although not easily cleaned my favorite is from Happy Tails www.bunnyflogger.com Tell Daemon Blast sent you...It's kangaroo leather woven into a ball. I frickin love it.

I have done the "Soak them in Listerine for a couple hours" that usually gets the taste and smell out. Also try rubbing strong mint toothpaste in a thick coating all over the gag and let it sit overnight. Scrub it off in the morning and see if that helps. If the gag can be separated from the straps and is dishwasher safe, run it through there a few times couldn't hurt. Howard

If there is off gas of any kind I wouldn't recommend putting it in any orifices. You may want to try to exchange or just replace it. Lesson learned... I too experienced awful taste an smell of toys made from porous materials (most flesh simulates, some rubber, etc...). Now I never buy toys that are not clearly labeled non-toxic and pthalate-free. Typically I just use my personally researched knowledge and stay away from porous materials entirely. Silicone is fantastic as long as you aren't using silicone based lube (can't use the lube on the toy substance)!!! I love Tantus brand and spartacus makes what looks like a decent ballgags. And don't forget while pretty toys are nice you can make a ball gag from a wiffle ball and any fastening.

I've found that washing plastic surfaces with pure vanilla works well for getting rid of pet and plastisizer odors. You might give that a try.

I have thought about making gags from woods like maple that have natural anti-biotics in them, they taste fairly neutral as well but I don't think people could wrap t heir heads around the idea.

That's a hell of an idea Michael, since some people do have industrial allergies. My self for one coming into contact with latex has a nasty effect upon my health. Can just feel my throat swelling up if something of latex is placed in my mouth.
