So, in conclusion, my personal attack (since you seem to want one): STFU about other people's names.  It is none of your business.

Do you feel better now?  i hope so, as you obviously needed some sort of stress release.  i'm not going to go point by point on everything wrong with your post,  Just, in the future; if you have a problem with my thread, or a post; say it clearly without specific attacks on me (no matter how you want to coach it, you made it clear) or even with specific attacks on me.  i'm a big boy and can handle it, you are apparently the one who cannot afford the life under the microscope.  You really don't have to go around your elbow to reach your ass, it's entirely possible to make a concise point in one post without a poor attempt at wit.

And for the matter, there are many a thread about men with long hair, and submissive men with long hair; again, i'm a big boy and i don't get my panties in a bunch about it.

Edited to Add:  i'm done fulfilling your fantasy about a shootout at the OK Corral... now i must apologize to the rest of the posters here, my behavior here was less than gentlemanly and did not actually contribute to the thread in any constructive way

LadyPact -> RE: Self-Diminishing submissive names (6/5/2008 8:24:38 PM)

I think it goes back to the point of personal taste.  It's very much the same if someone has a screen name such as 'closetcd4u' or 'toyletboy' or any other name linked to a fetish.  It's seen as an open advertisement for that fetish.  That's the first thing that is seen when noticing someone here.  It is second only to the main profile pic (if one is available) and the profile itself being a distant third.  Look left.  Name on top, pic or avatar below that.  Actual profile has to be specifically seen after clicking the name.

Now, everyone is entitled to be looking for whatever they are looking for, but if a name is fetish related, and it's not My particular fetish, I'm probably not going any further than that.

Do you really care what a bigot thinks of you? Try to avoid the practice yourself and start seeing people as individuals instead of labels and maybe things will improve.

You can be an example or you can set an example. The choice is yours.

When I read "worthless" or similar words in a username, I will take a moment and read the persons profile inorder to get an idea of the context it's being used in.

Really don't know about the male sub profiles or the trends there.  It is interesting doing a comparison and trying spot a pattern of use.  Trends in the type of usernames people pick and reasoning behind it all.

CreativeDominant -> RE: Self-Diminishing submissive names (6/6/2008 6:59:29 AM)

The reason that this type of thing is a major pet peeve of mine is that i ultimately see it as a reinforcement of the stereotypical idea of the male submissive that many (mostly male dominants and people that are vanilla but have a basic understanding of the rudiments of Ds... though i've seen it in female dominants and submissives as well; this is also a sentiment that i am guilty for hold against most male submissives i know in the real world) still hold...  that of the "gimp", or the spineless puddle of flesh in a male body.

For this reason, i tend to get a little offended (and amused) when i get the comment "Gee, i would have never guessed that you were a submissive.".  Like, what did you expect?  A snivelling coward unable to stand up for myself and with no personality beyond that which might be ascribed by the one holding my leash?  (by the way, Ma'am has yet to put a leash upon me; not that i would mind)

Yes, i am guilty of viewing male submissives under this same stereotype; but it is only because so many of them seem to hold it up as the ideal to be perpetuated.  If i, as a submissive myself, see little of worth in other male submissives; why should i be surprised if others do the same (to me even)?

Good points, darchChylde.  I know for a fact that it is one of my biggest issues with most male submissives I have known...that appearance of or the actualization of being a spineless wimp that any woman could control, not just a female dominant.  I've often wondered if most female dominants realized that or just did not even think about it.  I know a couple of femdominants whose submissives are not the stereotypical male submissive and they get those same comments..."I would have never realized you were submissive, etc."...all the time.  But then, I also know that my first submissive...who is a femdominant...likes that whole sissy boy thing while ironically wanting the submissive to be strong enough to "tote and fetch".

RuleMyWorld -> RE: Self-Diminishing submissive names (6/6/2008 7:41:34 AM)

Is it all how you perveive yourself, or how you want to be thought of?  Hey, go for it if you want to be known as worthless and treated that way.  Names certainly can be a turn off even in the vanilla world.  I once dated a girl named Irma, she was hot, but her name made her less so.  I know for myself I have chosen just to look at a profile because of the name.  The great part of WIITWD, is that there is a lot to choose from.  It's not like we are all collecting Lincoln Pennies here.  Worthless does not fit into what I percieve myself as, but, do I sometimes want to be treated as worthless?  Could be fun.......sometimes just words can be a turn on.  I personally hate the whole "have you been a bad boy?" thing....it's a turn off.  So my screen name "Rule My World"....do I really want you to rule my world? Fuck no!......but, every now and then I'm yours to do with as you wish.

For the submissives, what do you think when you see someone using such in their username?

I think if they are so "worthless," why would any self-respecting D-type want them?  I mean, if they honestly feel they have no worth, what good would they be to someone as a dominant?  What could they bring to a dominant that was positive and an asset?  Obviously they feel they could offer nothing so why would a dominant bother?  Who needs a valueless lump to drag around?  That's just my take on it...............luci

LMFAO...
and that's how I feel, in general, about any type (Top/bottom/Dom/sub/MasterLordofallfuckingUSA/slavetohiseverysexual..blah) using a "woe is me" screen name...it's annoying and unappealing.

To each their own, and that is MY opinion.

Just wondering, another thread I posted in today made me decide to look up the amount of people who chose a username which started with the term “worthless”.  Perhaps it’s just me, but I find it sad that even on a site with tens of thousands, or more users (I really have no clue as to the numbers of profiles here) that there are even as many as 51 who choose such a username (not to mention those that have the term later in the name, or those that contain terms which are similar in meaning).

Out of 51 people, approximately 72 percent were male and 28 percent were female; all were submissive.

Now, I have to wonder whether this type of username is chosen more often from an honest view of yourself as worthless or a belief that such a perspective will attract the attention of a desirable dominant.

So, I have questions for both sides here:

To the dominants out there, does seeing a term like “worthless” in a submissive’s username attract you?  If so, why?  If it does not attract you, why not and do you think you could foreseeably look beyond such a moniker.

For the submissives, what do you think when you see someone using such in their username?

Or, if you have chosen a such a diminishing username; what made you decide upon it?  Also, what type of reaction do you receive that you are sure is due to your using such a name?

As this has long been one of my personal pet peeves, i'm honestly curious about the motivation behind and effectiveness of using this type of name.

Well, honestly I have no opinion with regard to the term "worthless", though you bring up interesting points... however, it got me thinking about my user name and the same, I guess could be said about mine... so, why did I choose it... because that is what my Master calls me-- Bitch.  So I am wondering, could any of these usernames have been created by ppl who are not looking for anyone?  Maybe there is at least some cases, where the user name chosen is reflective of what a current Dom/me calls them.  Just a thought.-- Bitch

It is either a way for them to call attention to themselves, or a cry for help; you know, the same reason a man grows his hair long.

Or it could be that he just happened to find something extremely successful.  Most of the male subs on this site would give their right arm to have a wonderful Dominant as he does, not to mention the high view of several other Dominant women around these parts.

Well I'd like to have hair like he does so that i could be dragged by it round the room.
Not even edited to add: This is 2008 and we are still concerned about the length of a man's hair! For once I am speechless.......
Ed. to correct punctuation just in case that's a reflection upon me as a submssive,
