Are Y/you ever irritated by A/anyone's use of an acronym, whether on the boards, in chat, or in an IM?

No, but the bizarre slashing of words that are not even personal pronouns, such as "anyone" is another story.

quote:

Personally i find 'WIIWD' irritating.  There is no 'W/we' and nothing that W/we A/all 'do'.  Just seems kinda silly to me.

You're right, there is no such thing as "W/we".  And "all" is not a personal pronoun.  But yes, you are correct, it is kinda silly.

quote:

Acronymns in general have a way of excluding P/pl who are new; i find that irritating too.

S'times i think W/we're getting as bad as kids with their 'text speech'.

Strange slashed abbreviations such as "P/pl" have that same effect, particularly when the word you are looking for is not a personal pronoun either.

as far as to the op.. (unless im already blocked) Why is it that when something annoys you, its ok, but when multiple people express something that you do as being annoying, you lose it?

Lose it?  i try hard to be logical, reflective and communicative in my posts.  i really dun know what Yr referring to...maybe You could be more explicit?

There is a prohibition on rehashing old topics, as i understand it, when doing so disrupts the boards.  There have been numerous threads about slashy speech since i've been posting here...it's kinda like the other perennial chestnut, submissive vs slave threads.

Yr free to post whatever You wish, but the Op is about acronymns, not slashy speech.

why use that?  It's essentially textpeak, which if I recall the OP correctly, you seem to find annoying as well?

i am with what the others said, especialy Asher. (but because i am trying to butter Him up for some cookies, i feel so unloved and left out)
i think that the slashy thing annoys me far worse then any acronyms.

I/i would watch what O/one suggests, or O/one may find that N/noone is answering because N/no O/one can see the posts because E/everyone has T/them hidden, like I/i  sure I/i already am with S/some O/one.

edited to add:  Y/you are correct...L/lots of things have been discussed to death, doesnt keep S/some from bringing T/them anyway, then telling O/others T/they are doing the same thing....

and BTW, if O/one is going to bitch about an acronym, I/it should at least be correct.  it is WIITWD.

Another thing that bothers me about people messaging or posting is that they don't bother to spell out the complete word.  It doesn't make any sense at all to me.

You assume insults elsewhere when things are not even directed at you, which I tried to point out to you.  Even here, I did not insult you, I did not call you stupid or simple or any other insult.

To most people, slashy is annoying as all get out.  But when you throw in random words that aren't even pronouns, it gets almost incomprehensible, and people do start to wonder.

Do you think perhaps, just perhaps, the efforts of people here are an attempt to make it so that they can comprehend what you are trying to say? If your goal is to be unique, so be it, goal accomplished.  If your goal is to communicate an idea, then not so much.

Awww, I feel spechul yet again at being noticed. It's not a clique dearie, its just the majority of thinkers......and I don't expect or wish anyone to follow me; that is an insult to all the fine posters on this board, because they DO have their own thoughts and opinions.

She was very reflective, logical and communicative in showing and teaching you . your mangling of the proper use of the English language is rather absurd and she was pointing out why.  None of it was insulting unless you tend to only want to criticize but wont take constructive advise in return. As far as people expressing annoying things you do. Of course you don't have to care. But, if you are trying to communicate effectively with others, it should be about making things easier for the reader. there are posters here that are legally blind or severely sight impaired. It should be about the expression of ideas. Not a bunch of fluff that hurts peoples eyes and gets in the way of projecting thoughts. Its hard to get past the fluff and take it seriously.

These boards are a sharing of ideas and opinions. Its not a forum for everyone to agree with you and tell you what you want to hear.

IMHO, if ANY OP doesn't want an answer that they don't agree with or want to read, then they shouldn't post a question or observation in the first place.  We all have our own opinions about things and share them, that is the point of the forums. If we all agreed on everything, what fun or educational would that be?

Well, as i've said, i dun feel i'm familiar enough with yr posting style yet to draw any hard and fast conclusions.  However, i can assure you, i have felt insulted by you in other threads, and IMO, with good reason.

Yr point about slashy speech seems to be, as O/others have argued ad nauseum, that it isn't the choice of M/most and therefor, T/those of U/us who like it should stop using it as some sort of conformity or censorship.

It so happens, i dun agree.

i always thought that "yr" was short for "year", and that just doesn't make any sense in the way you are using it.

i personally don't like to decipher postings and just skip over the ones that aren't writen out all the way most of the time.

Any chance you realized that she wasn't directly insulting you, she was just viocing an opinion regarding slash speak. Which frankly isn't censorship nor is it trying to make one conform to the majority? Just askin.
