I wish I liked wine. I adore the labels and the descriptions.
Earthy.
Hint of blackberry..oak..floral etc.

I just cannot get past the taste and mouth reaction. Every single wine (and nearly every alcoholic beverage) makes me feel like I have a mouth filled with sour candy.

So far the only thing that I can drink is Pyramid Apricot Beer which is yummmmmmmmmmm.

Boones Farm Hard Lemonade....

Should have known it would be Boones Farm....   And I like to try local wineries when I can. From Idaho, Ste. Chappelle is an award-winning winery with excellent wines, Bargetto is my all-time favourite from California. They make reds, whites and fruit wines, the fruit wines being under the Chaucer's label. Yes, they make the Chaucer's Mead! *drool*

If you can find small local wineries, they usually have some good wines very inexpensively. I know of a few in the Santa Cruz mountains where you can bring your own bottles and they fill them with table wine, either red or white, non-vintage. Nothing fancy but pretty good drinking wine.

OMG Chaucer's Mead - you aren't the only one who drools over that, though I don't normally think of it as a "wine" even though it technically IS.  Then again, I've have some truely Spectacular homebrewed Meads over the years, thanks to the SCA.

Bolla makes a fantastic Valpolicella, it is a rich red, with a nutty spicy cherry kind of flavor. It goes fantastic with grilled meats. mmm.

OMG Chaucer's Mead...

My nephew makes these amazing prime rib dinners for special occasions. As he had been reading Northern European mythology, I surprised him with some mead at our last get together. We feasted in the olden ways!

Of course mead is delicious, but I don't even want to consider the calories per 4 oz glass.

Sutter Home Chenin Blanc
Beringer makes a decent Chenin Blanc too... under $10, usually around $6

Fetzer makes decent everyday table wines across the board. Best value is the liter bottles for about 12-15 bucks. Also, Woodbridge Pinor Noir is decent vin ordinaire table wine $13 the liter.

I do about 1/3 of my shopping at Trader Joe's and I buy almost all of the brands I've seen in this thread there. What's odd is seeing some of the same brands at Target the other day...since when do they carry wine?

I take it as a good sign, actually. Wine of some minimal quality belongs on every dinner table.

I agree.  My Italian grandmother would crack me up.  She would save empty bottles of really nice wines.  Then when company came for dinner, she would buy a cheap wine, and funnel it into the good wine bottle before serving.

That woman had a glass of wine a day and lived to 97.

Blue Nun  Why is she in that field on the label anyway no one knows. Real nuns are art critics with big teeth like horses.

I love her she is my favourite art critic, I think they make her review the nudes just to hear how she describes eroticism. Also it is very frustrating for her and that is a bonus IMOSHO.
