Not all homeless are lazy bums out of work  not willing to help themselves.  Lot of the homeless are mentally ill people who go off their meds and have no family to look after them.

This is true, of course.

There are plenty shades of grey in between black and white, though not all people can see them.

Once again, I'm completely speechless

There is no heaven, no hell, no zombie jesus, no 70 virgins, no kabbalah apocalypse, no afterlife, just what we have now.

Imagine talking to someone in the 17th century or the 3rd World:  we have central heating, safe water, safe food, building codes, electric lights, flush toilets, motorcars, airplanes, antibiotics, obstetricians, hygiene, literacy, the vote.
1 in 10 women don't die in childbirth, 2/3 children don't die from dysentery or lockjaw or in factories, 1 in 3 men don't die at unsafe work.
Women who read or heal aren't crushed as witches, men who wander into the wrong forest or mow the lawn on the Sabbath aren't hanged.

We each have Heaven on Earth.  Right now.

So stop whining and enjoy Paradise.

I do actually believe in Hell.  I don't think of it as a burning, subterreanean world where demons poke at you with pitchforks.  I think of it simply as death.  It's removal from existence.  It's God's way of putting the evil out of their misery.  To put it in Judeo-Christian terminology, they are literally blotted out of the book of life.

I do believe in an afterlife, and I have to believe that people like Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, and Ted Bundy face some kind of retribution for their deeds.  But I do believe in a Creator, and I think it is arrogant to believe any human would be more merciful than an omnipotent being.  I believe God puts evil people down like rabid dogs.  A literal, eternal existence of misery and pain is not the punishment a merciful God would give to even the most vile of humanity.

Amen.

Thank you fungasm for starting this thread.
It is interesting reading a wide range of views and thoughts.
It is also comforting to see others that believe in and hope for an afterlife.

"why, this is Hell, nor are we out of it...."

.....given that, and further given that Angels can rebel against God, isn't time for the Demons to revolt against Satan?

Besides there are two other issues at play #1 Pam Anderson has Hep so fucking her could kill you... and #2 Why would anyone want to give a homeless person anything except a swift kick in the ass and an admonition to get themselves a job...

#1 - She has Hep C - It't not transmitted through sex. my brother had it and his wife never got it and they have three healthy beautiful girls.

#2 - Not all homeless are lazy bums out of work  not willing to help themselves.  Lot of the homeless are mentally ill people who go off their meds and have no family to look after them.

Velvet, true, we used to care for the mentally ill in state hospitals until certain groups of people figured they needed their "freedom" and cast them out onto the mean streets.
Now many of them don't even get "3 hots and a cot."
State hospitals wearn't perfect but they were a whole hell of a lot better than what we have now!

Hell: being led by stupid, piggish people with outmoded, greed-based ideologies. Being led by people who look upon those who aren't in the same social class as "the help." Hell is having disasters ignored by those who were sworn "to provide for the general welfare and common defense." Hell is having your family, friends and neighbors ripped away from you, because of some lie.

In other words, hell is the GOP being in power.

I want to take a moment to correct something.

Hepatitis C is spread by blood-to-blood contact, and can be passed via sexual contact.  Incidence of transmission is admittedly low...but it is NOT nonexistent.

My hell would be a world in which all the men say "yes dear, whatever you wish."

Then your hell will never come to pass.

Because those words, at least in that order, will NEVER pass my lips. Though I will expect to hear them semi-frequently from the woman.

Being stuck in rush hour traffic that comes to a complete stop during a long, hot smoggy summer, while having a full bladder.

In another post, someone described a circumstance as their version of Hell.  It piqued my curiousity.

In my Hell...

...stupidity is fashionable.

...there are no books, no games, no soap bubbles.

...hugs aren't permitted.

What is Your Hell?

That's easy.  i'm a preschol teacher with an overcrowded class full of kids with ADD.
