And to think I were looking for SCA in my country, as your Ren, faires I particularly admire, but it seems SCA is riddled with the same sort of shit that battle re enactors are in this country. Hey, I just ever wanted to don a historical costume, bimble about with metalware and have the occaisional bash, perhaps sell some wares and out of a cow horn, get drunk.

I left what we have here because of the elitists, the egotists and other general knobs who took it all too seriously and forced what should have been escapist fun into a constant war of politics and authentitity. It was always interesting to note, academics involved in the 'ologies', stayed well clear of what a lot of academics call fantasists, weekend warriors and nouveau history fanatics.

And self impossed titles, the last person that tried that one on me,(who incidently changed his name to it by deed poll, rank and all ), got thrown in a boggy pool, which did not do much good for his medieval finery, peaty water stains silk nicely. He did want a 'duel' and was deadly serious about it, but edged weapons as in sharps, not a good idea. This an indication of how serious these idiots took themselves.

I just want to have fun, with others who think the same, let's do that and leave all the serious ego hunters to authenticate themselves into oblivion.

I was with a friend of mine talking to a boffer guy at a faire, not an SCA member, who we all knew.  This guy kept demanding that we call him "Sir" or "Lord."   I politely informed him that I was not in garb and it wasn't gonna happen.  He turned to my much younger friend and kept trying to force him to refer to him by title.  I believe that I walked away after the 50th "You aren't my lord.  I don't have a lord.  I'm not here in garb.  Forget it."
It turned out that this guy was trying to impress Kyle's girlfriend and thought that this was the way to do it.  Three weeks later, we were all working a faire at the same time.  I was in charge of maintaining the fighting arena.  I allowed the two of them to shinai fight to settle their differences.  Kyle still doesn't call him "Sir."  Watching the two of them did make me wish I was 10 years younger again.

I think those things alone gives me the right to defend the SCA, and to remark about falsehoods people are portraying here as the be all end alls of what the SCA is. So what claim have I made that is false eh?

As repeatedly pointed out, and made obvious to all, what people are portraying about the SCA is that as much as they enjoyed aspects of it, it would be better if the thin skinned and insecure didn't try to make themselves seem like something special over a recreational pursuit.

If that is a falsehood, you sure haven't done a thing to dispel it.
