White, Christian, Protestant, sucessful southern business owner. LIKE THEM. As I said, these aren't toofless rednecks. They are the same guys you will find in the Masons, and the Rotary Club, and the Shriners... Believe it or not, in the South being asked to join certain Klan klaverns is "an honor" ... Nonetheless, I am not going to get on the wrong side of them for any number of reasons from not losing business contracts and contacts to not having my smoke detector wake me in the middle of the night....

Why on earth would you politely decline an invation to join a hate group with a collective iq of a cabbage? I don't care if they belong to the chamber DA, so do I and quite frankly my chamber has cabbages as well. You can stick all the little "Hi my name is ____" badges on in the world, if you still have a sheet and a hood in your closet you are a moron.  Politely doing anything in involvement with the Klan is not an option for me. Ever.

I politely decline the invitations, generally falsely citing imaginary security concerns that various background investigations I am subject to would endanger ther organization.  See, despite being a WASP, I am smart enough to not want to get on the wrong side of the Klan. I am not gonna join them, but I dont want to piss them off either...

DA, there is no "right" side of the Klan.

The Klan stays away from me--not sure if it's because I have better lawyers or better aim, but I'm happy with either one.

I don't intend to have my body found in a dam somewhere... Am I afraid of them? You bet your ass I am, and if you lived in an area where they had any clout you would be smart to be afraid of them too... I am not willing to become a martyr to the cause... 

Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner chose to martyr themselves (James Chaney was black so he was a target to begin with but if you want to add him to the martyr rolls I have no objection as he was killed too.) and what did it get them?? Dead! It took 40 years for even ONE person involved in their killing to even be convicted of manslaughter.   17 men, including the sherrif were acquitted and then finally 40 years later one guy got convicted on 3 manslaughter (not murder) charges??? Meanwhile the martyrs rotted in their graves for 40 years while the Klan lived long and happy lives??? No thanks, not my fight, not my problem...WASP or not Ill stay on the right side of them... I wont join, but I wont piss them off or paint a target on my back either...

In what part of Houston does the Klan have clout?  In what part of Harris County does the Klan have clout?

Hell, Quanell X has more clout around here than the bedsheet brigade.

Bay area. They are EVERYWHERE. They also have a huge presence in Montgomery and Galveston counties.

News to me.  Been living here more or less since '83, and steadily since '89, and I've not seen any Imperial Wizards or Grand High Poohbear Komodo Dragon Klan Knight whatevers...

Of course, that 'better aim' bit might be influencing things a tad.  Sam Colt was the great equalizer of all men after all.

Really? I know people who are minorities that can pass... you'd be surprised at what they have 'shared' with them that they don't personally agree with.
