well- it isnt a sex thing.

my friend Jenny will go thru a situatiom, ask no questions.  then harp on the tangents for weeks!!

this non- asking has led to anguish in her life; tho I look at it like a gambler betting. as long as it is "possible" for her to achieve her desired outcome- then the rush drones on.  but when there is no change the doom sets in, and this gambler personality mode crashes.   then she pouts for a few  days.

What I don't understand is how I can say "I'm going to the store to grab some milk" and a woman can hear "You aren't good enough.  I'm looking for someone to have sex with."
OK.  Its an exageration.  But why is it that so often men say one thing and women hear something totally different?  Does it work the other way around too?  Do you guys say things like "Drive safely" and we hear "I want to have sex later?"

Anything a man says can almost always be translated as "I wanna have sex later."

Well... they really don't have to say anything, at all.  That they wanna have sex later is just a given.  [;)]

I'm like a lot of men (even though I'm female) I want sex all the time and I rarely say something unless it needs to be said. I'm direct and to the point and when listening to someone else talk I don't read anymore into it then they've said. Must be because I'm masculine brained (well some test I took said so).

Women like nail polish, men think about the next quantum physics theory.

I have to agree with the other posts.  I just tend to think about sex.

There however must be some sort of evolutionary reason female primates long ago gained a reproductive and survival advantage with those advanced communication skills. The going theory is that females were the primary caregivers. Those that were the most social and open to caring and support were able to take better care of their offspring theirfore their genetic material had a higher chance of survival.

Mothers have great interpreting skills and are often extremely aware of what is going on with their young offspring, without the use of words.

Also, people who work closely together, often do not need a lot of words to know what needs to be done.

I would think the skill would be more useful in interaction with male counterparts, and possibly incorporation with other tribes.

Might have even started as a defense, not being able to physically over take an intruding male, or wanting to entice one away from another female; words would have come in handy.

Men probably would not have needed the skill as much, because one; if you're hunting, talking is generally not a good idea; and two, if they wanted something, they could just take it, or fight to the death for it.

Ever have a man tell you about someone having a baby?

"What did she have???"
"Uh....a girl, I think."

"How big?"
"I dunno, I didn't ask"

"Did she have an easy time with the birth?"
"I dunno, I didn't ask."

"Did Hubby do ok?"
"I guess so."

"Well, do they have a name picked out?"
"I dunno."

"Did she end up having a c-section like she thought she might?"
"I dunno."

"What time are visiting hours so we can go see them?"
"Visiting hours?"

"When are they coming home?"
"I dunno."

My definition of good is being able to say a single sentence and have the person you are speaking to take the correct meaning from it instead of reading into it any one of a thousand different meanings.

What do you mean by that??!!! Are you inferring there is some dimness on the part of the female? She can't even understand a simple sentence? HUH? Is that what you're saying???? Men are superior, I get it. Okay. Fine. We simple females read into things. That must be because we watch soaps and eat bon bons contracting our brains and expanding our backsides while you go out and stab a bison. I get it. I see what you're really saying...you think I'm fat, don't you? ~sob~

I think it is more about what is important to them, then an inability of any kind.

Ask a man about his favorite sports team, race car driver, hunting story, or any subject of great interest; and presto, continuous fountain of information.

Oh yeah, I have had those types of conversations!
Now had we been discussing something mechanical or sports that would have been a spirited monologue.  [:D]

According to this amusing little  test , I have a predominantly masculine brain. Apparently, because I can solve puzzles and imagine things in three dimensions [8|] .
