let's have a nickname witch hunt...All you Lawrences hiding out as Larry's....all you Thomases pretending to be Tom's...all you Peggies...bitch! We know your name is Margaret....in other words, not sure of the relavancy of this. Lots of people go by nicknames given since childhood...but other than that, i get your point

Because that was how Spike decided to get his name in the papers. Both have done great films, both have done crap, but Lee isn't, and never will be, the artist Eastwood is.

you have seen all 35? And Smith, I know you are aware that most hollywood actors use names they were not originally born with don't you? Spike was nicknamed that since childhood, wayyyyy before he came to hollywood. He should not use his lifelong nickname why?

I'll say it another way, a "nickname" is not grounds for a lawsuit. It 'can' however be a way for him to draw more attention to himself and his lame movies.

well Smith ( is that your real name...

) I thought that was silly too, but I still think his movies are outstanding. I was 19 or so when I first saw "Do the right thing" and I loved it then, and still think it has a very cool way of getting a point across. For me as a young person he was someone that really made me think about social issues, racism and cultural issues that no other filmmaker for me ever had. Isn't that what film making is about making you think sometimes? I know it is the custom to sit and blindly watch some blockbuster mass produced garbage with a neat and tidy ending, but sometimes I want to think about a movie for a long time after it is over. His movies did that for me, as well as being entertaining and thought provoking.

In his Axis of Time series (Weapons of Choice, Designated Targets and Final Impact) John Birmingham explores what it would be like if a carrier task force from 2021 was thrown back in time to 1942. One of the major themes is the instant friction between the relatively color- and gender-blind future fighters compared with the "contemporary forces" of WWII.

What I particularly liked was the hints about the future of our timeline should this be real. In particular, the command carrier is named for "the most effective and aggressive CIC the US has ever had."

I thought he won an Oscar, but it was an emmy. He has been nominated though celticlord.

To further support the assertion that shelton lee is a media whore......as I've just discovered, he's got a new movie coming up that's about (gasp) an all-black military regiment.

The timing of this little tantrum with Clint Eastwood is just.....downright eerie!

"Only"? I think it's pretty good to get nominated at all. I mean, how many Star Trek movies got there? *Shrug* - I like Spike Lee's films. Maybe the guy's a bit of an attention seeker, but since when was Hollywood full of shy, retiring types? So what if he's drumming for some controversy? That's how the industry works. Got to have your name out there, and there is no such thing as bad publicity. It would be naive to think otherwise.

It is an accomplishment.

It is also an accomplishment to win Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director. Clint Eastwood has done both.

Spike Lee is a good director. Clint Eastwood is a great director.

do you ever add "in my opinion" or "to me" to any of your statements or do you always speak in absolutes?

Spike Lee is a great director. Clint Eastwood is a good director who gets a lot of accolades due to name recognition and longevity.
