The House has voted to send articles of impeachment against President Bush to a committee that is not likely to hold hearings before the end of his term. By 251-166, House members dispatched the measure to a committee on Wednesday — a procedure often used to kill legislation. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi long ago declared the prospects for impeachment proceedings "off the table." Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, who ran for president earlier this year, insists that his resolution deserves more consideration. He spent more than four hours Monday night reading his 35 articles of impeachment into the record, including charges that Bush manufactured a false case for going to war against Iraq.

Republicans, seeing a chance to force Democrats into an embarrassing debate, voted to bring up the resolution. Democrats countered by pushing through a motion to scuttle the bill from the floor.

Yeah....it's dead.

Nancy Pelosi has long maintained that there will be no impeachment hearings against President Bush.

It's a meaningless gesture designed to remove support from Mcain during the election,by demonizing his connections to Bush.

No, it's not.  I grew up in the Cleveland area with Kucinich first as a city councilman then the youngest mayor ever of a major American city.  Whatever you want to say about him, the man is a true believer.  He's not a politician.  Whether you agree with him or not he is sincere in his beliefs.  Which is unfortunately why he will never get anywhere because he refuses to play the game.  Sort of like McCain used to be before he decided becoming President was more important than his principles.

Truebeliever or not its still a non-starter...this won't and really shouldn't amount to anything IMHO...Nov.approaches ....

True but to simple.Years ago on the Long Island Rail Road a deranged black man opened fire on a bunch of people coming home from work. Two of the victims were father and son,the widow and grieving mother wound up in Congress running on a anti-gun platform. She is still there which proves your point to a degree .My objection to it is the use of the  word politician calls forth a vision of a cynical do anything to get elected huckster,it is possible to enter public life due to a passionate need to fix a percieved wrong....

And very likely impossible to stay there without turning into a 'politician'.
I try to throw 'career' in to make that distinction, but don't always, because it is so overwhelmingly the case that power has corrupted those in office for any length of time, and has drawn those who are desperate to become corrupted thusly.

The few exceptions pretty much proof the rule.

Are we going to quibble over semantics now?  I think you know what I was trying to say.

I do know what you were saying/are saying.  What I am saying is that for all his tilting at windmills, at the end of the day he's all about getting re-elected, just like any other politician.

I would agree with you 99% of the time, but he takes a lot of unpopular positions.  Unpopular even with his own constituency, yet he gets re-elected because people believe in his sincerity.  Myself, I think he's kind of a nutcase, but I would rather have a nutcase who fights for what he believes, than, as you said, a politician just concerned about getting re-elected.
