Bacteria are part of the food chain, and we wouldn't be able to survive without them.  Salmonella is a particular strain of bacteria that can make people sick.  We do a pretty good job with modern science in preventing food bourne illness, but it does happen sometimes.  It's nothing new, and it's not a reason for panic.
