Are we talking blue-veined cheeses?  Love 'em...roquefort, gorgonzola (I know it is blaspheme, kittin, but the Italians really do it better than the French in this case)  American Maytag Blue..yummmm

But if you are talking those runny, waxy-crust suspicious cheeses like brie and such...yeeeewwwww.  The texture and odor get me before I can even get it to my mouth.  UH UH...

I've eaten just about everything presented to me (and wife, looking over shoulder, says 'and just about everyone, too' -- ok, that's it...back in the cage, bitch)  But I digress.  I've eaten bugs (chocolate chirpy cookies -- chips and crickets...mmmm)  I've eaten squirmy slimy sea things -- who was it that complained about baby octopii?  One of the most delicious dishes is the Basque/Spanish "chipiroes en su tinta".  First you get a pregnant squid....well, OK, I'll leave off of that.  (it means 'baby squid in its own ink').  sea cucumber Japanese style is a bit gaggy.  And really fresh raw sea urchin is...interesting but difficult.  And I've eaten most of the common mammals and some uncommon ones.   Bear is amazing.  But, as I've said before, having shot and skinned and fried up some black bear steaks, you have to assume that one day you'll be called upon to return the favor.  Haven't yet tried housecat, or rat (but squirrel is pretty tough and gamy).  And I've had some of the parts of said animals you don't normally eat.  Chicken feet, sezchuan style, are the perfect bar snack!  (So, by the way, are sparrows, cleaned and deep fried).  Tripe is pretty bad news, except in menudo, on a Sunday morning, after a night of intemperate imbibing.  Also cabrito helps.   And intestines are yummy whether African-American style (chitlins) or Jewish style (Kishke).

And Aynne, you need a hard pear with that combination, and you are just about a block away from heaven.

I'm hungry.  What's in the fridge?

E

Well Emperor, I was definitely talking stinky dark veined blue. Yum! The hard pear sounds like that very perfect way to finish that off. Nice tip.

E,

Try the brie and camembert at room temp with pear, as you say, or apple. Aynne, a nibble of cheese, a nibble of fruit, repeat, etc. Yum. And don't forget the vino, of course.Perhaps some good crackers or, better yet, some good , crusty bread.

There's not much that really turns me off. I can't stand the smell of lamb fat, nor the Indian spice Asafoetida. I don't care to eat moose again (long story). I'm not much for organ meats, either. I'm not fond of Sushi. Don't care for seaweed.  I have an aversion to pig, and won't eat Octopus as they are reputedly very intelligent. Not much for eel, either.

But I don't think I'll have Chapulines again. They have to be done just right, and doing that is a skill few cooks have.

Seviche de camarones is the food of the gods. Served Ecuadorian style with fresh aji, a hot sauce made of whatever hot peppers you have run through a blender with an onion and some vinegar. Because aji tends to take all the air out of the room, and will tarnish metal and dissolve plastics it is suggested you get a spare sugar bowl and store it in there, china spoon also is a must.

Classically it is served with plaintain chips, homemade of course, but we usually accompany it with freshly popped popcorn.
