I get the feeling that though he told you that he's into "Role Playing and the Kink scene". That actually might not be the case--meaning all his role playing and fantasy play has been 100 percent online.
 
Now that he has a girlfriend who not only accepts but has wholeheartedly jumped into the life with eyes wide open... now he's scared. Because guess what???  The internet and real life are two entirely different things.
 
You know that old saying---"Put out or shut up". You seem to be "putting out" in your efforts.  Good for you. I applaud your efforts and who knows... this may be a life altering change you never thought you needed.
 
But maybe deep down in his mind, he wasn't expecting it. He wasn't expecting you to jump over the edge into the unknown with a smile on your face.  [:D] 
 
Now it's his turn to "Put out" and he doesn't even know how to begin.

a freind of mine teaches a class on recieving service, she herself is a slave and she ran in to this issue over and over again.

in the class the dominant is asked very pointed questions about what his needs are, what sort of service he likes and to paint the perfect picture.

doms use this tool all the time to get into a subs head, but this is reversing the roles a bit, having him fantasise about the perfect dom sub relationship in his heart and mind.

there are some other questions as well, myself and Sir found that really pouring over what service looked like in our minds eye preemptivly, has allowed for sme great navigation to occure when bumps appear in the road.
