Hey, red, when they drop you in the middle of a jungle, tell you that you gonna be there for two weeks, and give you 3 days worth of rations, you kinda get over being afraid of large bugs, rats, snakes and a few other things, real fast.

However, those things swimming in water that look like logs with lots of teeth, no way, no how.  I have a big fear of ending up food for some wild animal bigger than I am.

Bless your heart, jlf.  I come from a military family and I appreciate your getting over any freakish fears for the sake of our country, more than you know.  But I'm still gonna have to decline your most generous offer of trading recipes.

*runs away squealing*

well chickpea, diesel fuel smell on a boat that burns diesel is normal, as for the rest of it, knee high leather boots will deal with snakes, a good bug repellant works for all the bug problems, but as for the weird people, I recommend a carry permit and a 50 calibre desert eagle automatic.

thanks for the advice, I will try them out.  as for the gun, i tried practicing at a shooting range once a friend recommended it for self defense, a tiny gun but then recoiled and couldn't hold the gun straight.  maybe i'll skip the automatic?

Angel, this is gonna sound real crazy, I mean downright nuts, but...

I have a cousin that is a Eagle driver in the airforce (he flies an f15) and he told me what he told a flight surgeon that was scared of flying, before taking the doc up to get in some flight time.

He told the guy to accept the fact he was gonna die and there was nothing he could do about it.

Well, the doc thought he was crazy, but tried it, and after the first few minutes, he was actually enjoying the view from 23000 feet. Since then that doctor has been in a plane every chance he gets.

DMFParadox -> RE: Do Y/you have a Phobia? (6/15/2008 1:09:07 AM)

I have a deadly fear of traffic cops.

And meter maids can kind of give me the shivers.

I am not. joking.  I laugh too, but put me in front of a traffic cop and my hand shake and I damned near piss myself.  I'm not afraid of beat cops, homocide detectives, bailiffs, any of that--I am scared crapless of traffic cops.

Before you ask, yes I'm a legal driver and have been for a long time.  I haven't always been, though... some errors in judgement as a teenager left scars, I tell you.

I used to have a fear of flying till I FINALLY actually did it.Now Id rather fly than drive anywhere. Alot shorter of a trip.

I have a phobia of heigths and free-falling and poisonous snakes. Non-poisonous and I love them to death. Not really a phobia perse.....BUT I hate spiders (Im allergic to them), otherwise I find them facinating.

christine1 -> RE: Do Y/you have a Phobia? (6/15/2008 7:33:18 AM)

i'm finding that i seem to developing a fear of flying long distances.  i've only ever flown around the west so maybe a flight would take 90 minutes, no more.  i'm facing a flight in a few weeks that's 5-6 hours and i'm starting to panic a little over it....interesting.  if anyone has any strategies for sitting in one spot for that long, and worrying about everything that could go wrong with a plane in 5-6 hours, i'd appreciate it.

servantheart -> RE: Do Y/you have a Phobia? (6/15/2008 10:20:44 AM)

Heights

Insects (mostly those gigantic flying cockroaches/treeroaches/palmetto bugs/whatever you wanna call them that come out during the summer)......these things send me into a panic every time, and I do mean panic....I have no idea why I'm so terrified of them....I have no memory of any traumatic event that would have resulted in that kind of fear.

Failure

Losing any of my UMs

SinLee -> RE: Do Y/you have a Phobia? (6/15/2008 10:22:45 AM)

love reptiles, i see they've been mentioned, my ex and i used to have plenty of them...

absolutely TERRIFIED of spiders though.... he used to keep those too, i had to count them before i went to bed and when i woke up, carefully NOT counting the molts which is practically impossible since spiders shed everything from the outer skin, to the digestive system to the reproductive system...

Hey cupcake.

I'll hit you up on the other side with some things that I found helpful when traveling to the land of tarantulas who like white chicks.  Those trips used to make me anxious, too.  From DC, we'd go 5-8 hours to someplace in Europe, then change planes and strap in for about another 13.  (Talk about your lessons in "learned helplessness"... sigh)

Some people are afraid of heights. Not me. I'm afraid of widths. - Steven Wright
