I will admit that I am not a morning person, furthermore, I admit to being one of the most grouchy people you can meet before noon, or at the very least, before my third pot of coffee.

Now, during this age of uncertainty, when natural disasters are on the rise, I feel that it is my duty to humanity to point out a few simple truths...

It seems to be a fairly obvious conclusion that mornings are, in fact, not good.  I will go so far as to say that if you survive a morning, you are doing damn good, and can expect a halfway decent day.

However, before you say "Good Morning" to someone, may I point out a few interesting facts....
1) The tunguska event of 1908 occured at approxiamately 7:14 a.m, The explosion knocked over an estimated 80 million trees over 830 square miles...
2) The San Francisco earthquake of 1906 struck at 5:12 am.
3) The New Madrid quake of 1812 occured before dawn and was felt over nearly one million square miles.
4) The quake that triggered the 2004 Indian ocean tsunami occured in the early morning hours.
5) Pompeii was destroyed by a pyroclastic flow from Mount Visuvious in the pre dawn hours of 25 August, 79
6) Both the modern tsunamis to hit Hilo Hawaii occured in the morning hours.

These are but a few of the historic, recorded examples of just how dangerous a morning is.  In point of fact you are 6 times more likely to be injured or die in a natural disaster between midnight and noon.

Now, with those facts understood, is it still wise to say good morning, when you have no real clue if the morning is going to be good or not?

I consider any morning I wake up to be good...how it goes from there depends on how fast I reach coffee, if the house is still standing, Master still breathing, the dogs have not done things they know they shouldn't like decorate the floor, the cat hasn't hauked up a hair ball in my sandals, nobody has dropped a Nuke and ultimately there is no one dead on my floor.

However since I don't know how the other persons morning is going I will say "Morning" instead of Good Morning.

Talking to me before bathroom, letting dogs out and getting coffee is perilous. I BITE.

i live in submissive limbo when i spend the night at Ma'ams place: i'm not allowed to make a pot of coffee unless i've woken up.  So no, i'm not a morning person either.  One of my favorite beliefs is that i should not be held responsible for anything screw up on before i finish my first cups of coffee, now Ma'am doesn't agree to this but She at least understands.

jlf1961. any chance i could steal your original post in this thread?  i don't know if it's an original or if you got it elsewhere, so i don't want to immediately post it elsewhere; but it's a great post.  :)

Bummer. I guess mornings suck. Too bad afternoons and evenings suck as well.
I found this on http://naturesoverulezz.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default
"Tornadoes can strike at any time of day, but they are much more frequent in the afternoon and evening"
What to do! Oh what to do! We're doomed I tell'y, doomed.

darch, sure, it was my research, I was asked once why i didnt like mornings.

I left out the fact you are 6 times more likely to die in a car accident between 6 and 9:15, 12 times more likely to get bad news, i.e fired, and 3 times more likely to have a heart attack on monday morning.

My mother used to say that any morning you didn't find yourself listed on the obits page was a good one. And she was not a morning person.

How bout waking up to find that a) it is pouring rain and b) there is a leak in the roof over the bed

remeber, there is always a worse. I always think that the euphimism that best describes that fact overall is, 'the only thing worse than getting a phone call at three in the morning from a wrong number, is getting a phone call at three in the morning that is not the wrong number'
(Unless you have a grandchild immeanetly due, there is nothing good that could possibly come from a phone call at 3 am)

Morning is my absolute favorite time of day. I am one of those that wakes up and pops out of bed like a poptart from a toaster, all smiley and happy. Yayyy for mornings! It is the beginning of the day, filled with potential and wonder.

With effort I can be a morning person, but I much prefer to wake up here in London with the morning somewhere else far away, like Kansas, Iowa, Nevada or even California.

I've had that happen.  But it can always get worse.  Remember, it's always darkest just before it goes pitch black.

Actually I have had worse than that, I woke up one morning with the floor at about a good 20 degree lean to the right.... I was living on a boat at the time and it seemed that the tide low tide was lower than I thought it would be, so the boat was sitting on her keel in the sand.

That is definitely worse.  All I had to do was move the bed.

But it should have fixed itself in a few hours.

You are describing a tragic psychological problem, being a morning person with the dangerous perky condition....

I say its tragic because few people can tolerate the two together...
