Lorelei is the original root of my real name. In mythology, "Lorelei" was a woman who was betrayed by her lover, so she jumped into the river Rhine, killing herself. Her spirit lived on in the river as a mermaid who would sit on a rock and lure men to their deaths with her beautiful singing.
There are lots of other Lorelei myths as well, but this is the one I identify with most.
I live by a river, too.
Oh and 1/15 is my birthday.
