so i'm not sure where to put this so if this is in the wrong place can it get moved to the right one? thanks...

so i got told today that due to the nature of some dental work that i had to have done i'm going to be in pain until say august (there are reasons why i'm saying august in particular). i hate taking tylenol and such i don't like pills in general. does anyone know of ANYTHING else i can try? i'm already using clove oil. i'm going batty and it's only been two weeks...

alternate between cold/warm compresses...

other than that, i got nothing for you.

if you're in pain because you're getting dentures soon, and all teeth that have been pulled have healed and had the stitches removed, then i say, if you don't like to pop pills, then you better like to smoke pot!

i need to have a root canal in august but they excavated the molar and packed it with flouride and put in a temp filling. i talked to someone today about the pain (i was actually on the way to the ER when i ran into someone who practices at the clinic i go to when it's open) and she told me that it's essentially the nature of the beast...

Hurricane Gel.... should be able to get it at a pharmacy... its the same stuff the denist uses before you get poked with a needle for procedures...

i find that incredibly hard to believe!  unless the temporary filling is cracked or has air-space in there, you should not be in pain; it is not normal and you should get your ass back to the dentist and have them rectify the situation asap!

i asked about that. she said it's because the filling's not meant to be in there like that, but that's the way that the procedure's done. she told me that if it gets worse then go back, but that there's really no way around it until i get the root canal done, which like i said unless it becomes a real emergency means august (the clinic's closed till then and i don't have enough money or insurance to cover it otherwise).

i'll look for it! it's not bad most of the time unless it rains. for whatever reason it flairs the most when it rains.

That gel is just a topical. It isn't going to help the pain in your case which is coming from the nerves inside the tooth.

If I were you, I would go to nearby university or teaching facility in your area and get it done before it becomes unbearable.

In the meantime, you could also ask the dentist for a tube of gel kam, and rub that on the surface of the tooth.

haha that's the problem. i go to a teaching hospital. they're on break. that's why i can't go back till august. well the girl i talked to told me where to go if it gets worse. i can handle it right now and just keep taking the tylenol if i have to. i've just never been one to take pain meds.

Anbesol (the liquid, not a gel) helped me enormously with a toothache earlier this year. Also Extra Strength Excedrin.

At the risk of sounding like an ad, it made a world of difference. They made so much money off me, I'm getting my own page in their 2008 annual report.

at this point i'd buy stock if it works. it's slowly getting better but it's not there yet, and it's been like this for at least a week...

Well, I hope it holds out for you.  But if it doesn't, you might just want to schedule an appt with a regular endo.  Root canals cost a shit load of money, not to mention if you need a crown and post afterwards, and they understand that most people have to pay it off in installments.

yeah i already had one done a couple of years ago which is why i'm hoping this nerve will just settle down on its own. i may just schedule an appointment anyway to make sure that i'm not running a low grade infection. i would prefer not to wake up screaming again shudder...
