raw (untreated) rope is straight out of manufacturning. Little hairs sticking out, hulls perhaps... so some people boil it to soften, some use salt with their water, some throw it in the washer, then after it dries..not in a dryer please, softly gently and slowly in a warm dry place, they then run a torch over it or an alchohol lamp or some other method to remove the hairs that might cause itchiness and so forth.... Then, as all rope rots over time, they use some propylactic (gawd there is a sensible use of the word) method to add fluid resistance to the rope, some use vasaline, some mink oil.........well there are about as many formulas to grease rope as there are ways to make salsa, I suppose......... (cause even if you get some blood on it or some vaginal or seminal fluid or poopie, you can kinda semi-safely then put the rope in the sun, or under ultra-violet to disturb the nasties enough so it is not too catchy.) thats a model that works for the most part. For this reason, although the ultimate is to have hemp and flax on hand. You probably want to start with the non-poly centered clothes line rope or some such. For the most part you aint gonna wanna share ropes with others (I found it out the hard way for only emotional reasons) . you work with the cheap stuff learning to tie and figuring custom lengths for the slut or boy you are using. General lenghts of course are given as a guideline. Hemp and flax is a lot of work, but they are the ultimate BOMB........ Hemp varies as does quality I see someone who has a website who posts here can get you flax for around a buck a foot, I know that is the long way around the farm but we can't mention names of third parties by TOS. Now read what I said about flax and hemp earlier on this thread or another, I forget. Whew, was that too much info? LMAO, Ron
