MzMia -> How much do you pay weekly for gas? Can you afford it? (6/22/2008 9:05:35 AM)

I am not letting my gas tank go below 1/2 tank, because I think I
might start crying if I had to fill it up on empty.

I just realized I am paying about $40 a week to keep my Toyota filled
with 1/2 tank of gas, and I don't really drive that much {for someone
living in the D.C./VA/MD area}!

Being the Sadistic bitch that I can be, I must ask the question.
[:D] How much are you paying weekly for gas?
Can you afford it?  What will you do if you don't have the money?
How many are using gas credit cards?

Wildfleurs -> RE: How much do you pay weekly for gas? Can you afford it? (6/22/2008 9:08:35 AM)

I work from home (and not looking to change that anytime soon) so I fill up my car about once a week on average and its about $40 at Costco for a fillup (at least in Connecticut). I can afford it and if I couldn't I'd just drive my car around even less.

I don't drive that far and my car has a small tank and yet still it costs me almost $60 to fill it up......in the good ol'days (ie. 5 years ago) I would be surprised if it cost more than $30. [:D]

Way too much...... and NO.

Once again glad I scrapped my little car!

Oh sigh, the reality of Monday so soon!  Work and back is 20.00 a day give or take depending on traffic.
No credit cards, all cash.........  I've done the math, it's not pretty.  I could live closer to work, but I would break even with the difference in the cost of rent not to mention the peace of mind I get from NOT living in town.  Is what it is, but I sure wish it wasnt!

$20 a day? That is a bit rough.
Buddy can you spare a dime?
oops, inflation...make that a dollar.

For gasoline out here in California it is $4.55 last time i filled up. I don't know how much it will be next time i have to fill up. I have to fill up once a week so it is costing me approx. $45.00 to $49.00 a week depends on where i can find it the cheapest. Sometimes i don't have time to find the cheapest. I have filled up to 1/2 but that gets old fast. I just hope i don't have gas stolen out of my tank. They go underneath, drill a hole and there goes your investment.

Sucks big time.

My minivan, which I need with 3 kids otherwise I'd trade it in for a small car, is about $80 for a fill-up now, and cash is very tight so every other time it goes on the gas credit card.  I hate that!  I think it's about every ten days that I fill up - work is about 10 miles away and I generally only do short trips otherwise.

I rarely get out of a gas station under 50 bucks.

i currently pay about $300.00 per week for gas.  i drive for a living, and if i can no longer afford it, i will have to seek other employment.  The local government has, in its infinite benevolence,  allowed me to add a nominal surcharge for my services, so thanks neighbors, and valued customers.
My other, part time, situation also involves a lot of driving, at the company's expense.  Their effort is to perform multiple assignments through each trip, which is practical, but also cuts into my salary, and that personal/exclusive touch.  Not a terrible loss, but it is likely to result in staff cuts.  i shudder to think of their current gasoline expenditures, but know that my work there runs about 175-225 per week at this point.
i am also trying to gather my plans from the late seventy's during gas rationing days for a car that runs without gasoline.  it is less of a stretch of the imagination than it was then, but i have yet to find an eager investor(s).  if the price keeps going up, i may simply publish and let the damned thing get built.

DomAviator -> RE: How much do you pay weekly for gas? Can you afford it? (6/22/2008 9:42:45 AM)

If I tell you - ya wouldnt believe it. LOL In my cars - roughly $120 - $160 - depending on whether I am commuting up to IAH a lot or if Im staying around the bay area.  If I take the boat out, which I do about once a week - $60 - $400+ depending on where I go and what I do - ie staying in the bay to drift fish is pretty cheap, running out past Galveston Island to troll in the Gulf will take me 100 gal + on diesel. Now, business wise  in airplanes - piston airplanes I personally operate for instruction not customer managed turbine aircraft - my weekly expenditure on 110 LL AvGas is approx $3000 - $5000 depending on whether we are flying singles or twins - ie what kind of time we are building.

have they tried to introduce the Runsheimer (sp?) program on you yet?
i found their requirements to comply almost insane!

MySweetSubmssive -> RE: How much do you pay weekly for gas? Can you afford it? (6/22/2008 9:44:42 AM)

I spend about $17-20 a week.  Thank goodness for my Honda Civic and a 7 mile commute to work.  I used to use my car more, but I have trimmed it down.  I probably drive 600-700 miles a month.

I have to drive up to Vermont next month, and it makes my hair curl to think about the cost of a 1,000 miles roundtrip.

What I find strange/chilling/conspiracy theory is that my car is 10 years old and gets 40 miles/gallon on the highway.  Unless I want to spend an extra $8-10k for a hybrid (or squish into a smartcar), I can't find a new car that gets better gas mileage.  We haven't been able to make any progress in 10 years?  Thank you, oil company lobby!

GreedyTop -> RE: How much do you pay weekly for gas? Can you afford it? (6/22/2008 10:00:57 AM)

I usea bout a tank a week... I filled up yesterday (at just above 1/4 tank) and it cost me about 46.00 (not topping off). 24 miles r/t to work, very little driving otherwise... well, cept to Orlando and back yesterday....

Oops.. forgot this part:  can I afford it? No. but I haven't really got any choice.

'sok, I'll eat next pay period...LOL

YourhandMyAss -> RE: How much do you pay weekly for gas? Can you afford it? (6/22/2008 10:02:12 AM)

It doesn't cost me one iota for gas, since I'm not the one driving an it's his car lol.

Daddy pays about 45 dollars twice a week and yes he can afford it. Unless gas gets to be like 60 or 70 bucks he will always have money for gas. No he's not using a credit card to pay  for it either it comes directly out of his bank. Now, if you asked would I/we rather use the 45 on something else the answer would, of course be HELL YES. LOL

YourhandMyAss -> RE: How much do you pay weekly for gas? Can you afford it? (6/22/2008 10:04:29 AM)

For my dad, if moms not driving her friend sam all around, they only have to gas up once a month, and it's about 45 dollars if the car gets truely hungry.

BossyShoeBitch -> RE: How much do you pay weekly for gas? Can you afford it? (6/22/2008 10:06:28 AM)

I have a 25 gallon tank.  When I fill up my tank, the pump auto stops when it hits the $100 mark, I pay and then have to pump the remainder..
