KMsAngel -> 4th of July winter picnic (6/27/2008 2:46:39 AM)

ok, now i'm an american in australia. i've convinced my office to have a fourth of july festive friday lunch.

and the only things i can remember that are traditional fare are hot dogs, potato salad, jello salad and .....??

i can't have the jello salad cause aussies turn up their noses at having it for with the main meal.

can y'all help nudge my memory some?

what do YOU have for the 4th of july?

Also, tell them about the similarities of our countries born out of adventure and exploration. Except, we were puritans looking for religious freedom and they were convicts. Thats WAY cooler.

lol, i did a legal secretaries course a few years ago. part of it was a look at the history/legal history of australia. australia was actually used as a penal colony AFTER America had been used as a penal colony, they rebelled and then couldn't send them there anymore. then they stored them in ships in the English harbours and when those got full, they started shipping them to australia.

i rebelled, said THAT'S NOT TRUE, they were religious escapees from a repressive government. i promptly got laughed at for 5 minutes. who writes the history books, i was asked?? the victors of course! and so what was not wanted as a great nation's history, got erased. blurred.

to be fair, a lot of the criminals sent from england, were petty thieves. stealing food to feed your families, poaching when the nobles parks were overrunning with stock, pissing off someone with more money or prestige then you did, being of the 'wrong' religion for the times - these were all criminal offenses

edited to delete a line that sounded incredibly snarky towards luscious which was not what i meant in any way at all! [:o]
