Similar to sassafras, if you have it, spinnin. Tasty, tasty stuff.......

Yes, lately it's been one of our favorite places to go. Sir lived in Germany for 6 years and he just loves going there. If you ever think about getting to the area let me know. We can go on carriage rides and shop til we drop...and eat chicken and cheese and fudge and ice cream floats and drink German beer and.....lmao....well you get the picture. Don't know how long it's been since you have been there but there is a fairly new mall. It's set up like a Bavarian village and the shops are really cool....plus they have a laser light show in the evenings.

Laser light show?!!! *lol* It's been since I was about 12. They nevah had laser lights then, believe me. This was not the most exciting place for kids...

No, it wasn't really a kid hot spot....but they are trying to change that. They have one of those new water park resorts there now. Gosh, I'm sure it's grown quite a bit since you were here. Did you get to go to Bronner's (the world's largest Christmas store)? I do love shopping in Frankenmuth...it's pricey but they have a lot of unique stuff.

there's really only one way to make me a rootbeer float... IBC Rootbeer with chocolate-chip cookie dough ice cream

Yummmmm...sounds good darch. Anyone want to be the cherry in my root beer float?

Yes, the Christmas store is cool. I just remember going to a lot of stores, a show, and a lot of restaurants. We went several times. I would love to go back as an adult and torture my kids with it.
Erm, what I mean is, expose them to the German culture.

I never thought I'd say this, but when it comes to flats I'm strictly vanilla.  ( Also strictly root beer.)

[sm=tongue.gif]  You started it.....

On-topic, I prefer a nice, tall glass, with a narrower opening for my floats..... Anyone else?

*sniffs at bear and sticks her tongue out at him*

BBWnNC72 -> RE: Root Beer Floats...what kind of ice cream? (6/27/2008 11:59:57 AM)

Vanilla ice cream and Dad's root beer or A&W root beer.

cravesdom -> RE: Root Beer Floats...what kind of ice cream? (6/27/2008 12:58:28 PM)

Has to be vanilla. I don't like vanilla ice cream by itself & I don't like root beer by itself, but I love the combination!

christine1 -> RE: Root Beer Floats...what kind of ice cream? (6/27/2008 2:17:15 PM)

another one i love that i just remembered....cherry garcia ice cream in coke.  yum!

puppen -> RE: Root Beer Floats...what kind of ice cream? (6/27/2008 2:27:45 PM)

I never thought of trying chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream in my float before now.

O-O!

That sounds... Yummy.

Vanilla or french vanilla icecream and it MUST be A&W rootbeer.

Noooooooo, homebrewed rootbeer...... *drools*

Made from scratch.......

One of my brothers used to make homemade rootbeer and homemade vanilla ice cream.  That was very yummy.  But if I have to, A&W with Bryers vanilla ice cream rocks...   [sm=chug.gif]

camille65 -> RE: Root Beer Floats...what kind of ice cream? (6/27/2008 4:22:06 PM)

Purist here. A&W Root Beer with vanilla ice cream.
I prefer the soda poured first then the scoop of ice cream plopped on top, the glass can't be too narrow because I need spoonin' room.
[:D]

I just had half an ice cream sandwich in a bowl, with mint ice cream over it. Oh jeez that was good.

I think someone said this, but it MUST be A&W root beer and Breyer's homemade vanilla.  Everything else is just a fraud...:-)

candystripper -> RE: Root Beer Floats...what kind of ice cream? (6/27/2008 4:38:06 PM)

Sorry erin, but I find floats just plain gross.  I want my soda in a glass, with ice and a straw, and my ice cream in a bowl with a spoon.  So I voted 'other'.

It is hard to move to another region of the country and suddenly find your comfort foods have been tampered with.  Down south -- at least where I lived -- all soda is referred to as 'coke'. I'd order coke -- the waitress would ask me what kind -- so I'd say regular -- and she'd look puzzled.  For awhile it was a little bitty reminder that I was away from home whenever it happened.  Not bad, but not much fun, either.
