with all due respect to the slaves and subs here, I want to hear from the MASTERS.  I want to know what they think of all this.  I already know what I think.

With all due respect, no one here told you what you were thinking.  They told you their thoughts on the subject.

My Master (I've got one too juliet!!) is the master of me.  He's also the master of Olivia, his dog, and the master of his home.

Firebirdseeking -> RE: WTF is a "Master"? (6/29/2008 7:04:23 PM)

Firebirdseeking seems to have drawn a lot of "fire", for her attitude, for asking to hear from those who call themselves Masters, for seemingly nor recognizing that a Mistress is also a master, and immediately got labeled as a fake.  But I have a bad attitude.  OK.  Baaaaaaaad attitude.  Perhaps going on the attack is also a Baaaaaad attitude.  I stated a simple belief that a Master - or a Mistress - should be about leading.  And having values.  If I am in the minority in this, so be it.  I kinda figured that out.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: WTF is a "Master"? (6/29/2008 7:06:54 PM)

But slaves often are called to lead and have values.  So what does that mean?

BRNaughtyAngel -> RE: WTF is a "Master"? (6/29/2008 7:09:54 PM)

It all depends on what type of Master you mean.

In the case of My Master, yes he leads and I happily follow.  We share similar morals and values, and if we didn't then I wouldn't be His.

mbes -> RE: WTF is a "Master"? (6/29/2008 7:36:51 PM)

Do you expect that all the husbands out there would be interchangeable? Or all the wives? I don't, one who suits a friend of mine would be dead at my feet within a week... and mine wouldn't suit another friend of mine. Yet they are all husbands. We just found ones who work for us. Same with any other relationship.

I'd love to help you out, But I'm only a Dom, nowhere near being a Master.

Maxwell67 -> RE: WTF is a "Master"? (6/29/2008 9:08:52 PM)

I did not invent the term M/s but it has become a standard term for a kind of power exchange relationship.  It stands for 'Master(Mistress)/slave' and the dominant men who are involved in these relationships are called 'Masters' just as the submissives are called 'slaves'.  That seems pretty simple to me.  This question looks more like an invitation to for trolls to weigh in, but if you want to play games with the ambiguity of the term then obviously no one is stopping you.

Leatherist -> RE: WTF is a "Master"? (6/29/2008 9:52:00 PM)

A master is a guy who thinks he can own someone, when the law says he can't.

Draw your own conclusions about what that means.

I have been on this site about 2 years and I want to know what a master is.  Im serious.  "Married vanilla" guys call themselves masters; is that right?  are they in control of their life if they have a wife they are cheating on, for any reason?  Now another question:  is a master about toys, dungeons, and fancy knots?  using a singletail?  Im not impressed.  To me, a master is a man of character and integrity.  And please, dont remind me this is kink site.    I know some Masters, real masters.  And they all have good values and integrity.  Seems to me that many of the "masters" here are just about sexual domination and kink.  Period.  I know I am going to be criticized for this post but I felt it needed to be said.

firebirdseeking

You're on a web site, dear.  People lay claim to all sorts of titles and knowledge and other attributes they may or may not possess.  Unless there's a particular man you plan to meet in real life, it is pointing out the obvious to say 'some people here are less than honest'.

Well, duh.

A master is someone who owns a slave.  No more and no less.  It has nothing to do with character or integrity.

Then ... whassup with "Lordand"? Is that where the character and integrity come in ... or is it more about communion and crucifying things?

Lynnxz -> RE: WTF is a "Master"? (6/30/2008 12:25:48 PM)

Not this crap again!

Master is someone who spent an ungodly amount of time and money in school, and has a fancy little hat and degree. All other definitions are in danger of the weel and twue attacks.

Lordandmaster -> RE: WTF is a "Master"? (6/30/2008 4:44:12 PM)

Well, that's from White Fang, actually:

"Never, no matter what the circumstance, must he dare to bite the god who was lord and master over him; the body of the lord and master was sacred, not to be defiled by the teeth of such as he."

Jack London has a lot of d/s currents in his novels.

DesFIP -> RE: WTF is a "Master"? (6/30/2008 5:32:08 PM)

Just because someone is a master doesn't mean they are good at it. There are bookkeepers who are bad at their jobs, but they are still bookkeepers. Nor is there any ethical value demanded to call yourself this. So to with all other roles. You're defining a twue master as one who shares your moral value system. That's fine when it comes to you choosing one to submit to, it doesn't mean that you get to demand everyone else shares your morality which is what you are doing.

Firebird,

OK a good point. I have been a Dominant for a loooooong time and I simply will not allow any that i interact with to call me Master. Course it also goes without saying that I do not believe in the slave concept; though I rerspect the concept for others who choose it.

Alpha is a Master Luthier. Means he's really good at building guitars had an apprenticeship and now owns his own business, but he sure as hell would never flog his product! Maybe people who want to be masters at anything should be an apprentice to a role model for two years before being unleashed on the world. I think that would be good.

yuyu777 -> RE: WTF is a "Master"? (6/30/2008 8:16:05 PM)

anyone can call themselves "Master", but that word only works when they have a sub/slave
and it only matters when their sub/slave judge them.
and only bcos its a different lifestyle, doesnt mean we have different definition of "good" and "bad"

MsArcEnCiel -> RE: WTF is a "Master"? (7/1/2008 1:16:14 AM)

This subject has been dealt with in the movie "Masters of the Universe." :) Skeletor and He-man would make for a very half-cute half-charming and well-balanced Dom/Dom couple...

Stusmobile -> RE: WTF is a "Master"? (7/1/2008 3:58:50 AM)

Technically I'm a Master Craftsman, I served a full time apprenticeship, took many many exams in theory and in practical terms and have many City and Guilds certificates that not only state that I am a Master but allow me to use certain letters after my name if I so choose ( I don't because I think it's pretentious).

As far as being a Master anywhere else .... I am master of my home, my desires and my choices ..... in the broadest terms I could be probably be classed as her Master .... but I don't think she or I think of our relationship in that way ... maybe I need to ask her myself.
