Good Lord.  Seven pages and counting.

I'm tired; anyone care to tell me if a single post responded to the Op?

Named the payoff?

Named the cost?

The cost of what? Making friends on the board? Meeting people out in real life?

Whats the cost of constantly playing the victim all the time? Jeeze.

If you have to ask what the cost or payoff is for a friendship then I have to question whether you have ever had a functional relationship in your life.

purepleasure -> RE: What's te Payoff? What's the Cost? (7/1/2008 12:56:02 PM)

too tired to care about your own thread?  or friends?  or an acquaintance that brightens your day just  a little bit?  if you can't care about these things, what a very sad person you must be.  that makes me sad.

ETA... please read my sig line courtesy of  Daddysredhead.

It really doesn't take much effort to find something that makes you happy.  So many of us in what you have considered us to be a clique have incredible hurdles in our everyday lives.  We have come together as a sort of extended family, for support and a place to vent without being judged (usually).  We may get silly at times, but we are "here" for each other.  If one of us is having a rough day, hearing about someone else's good day gives us hope for tomorrow.  Personally, I don't think I will ever meet 90% of these folks face to face, but that doesn't keep me from being here for them.  Or, them for me.

There's an old saying.... if you want a friend, you have to be a friend.  And we really aren't a clique.  We're a bunch of kinky folks that find sanity in the insanity on the boards.

There have always been friendships on the boards -- seems natural to me. Just as there have always been antagonists; people who rub each other the wrong way.

Wow! I'm new to this board, and I first thought you (as pinksugarsub) were new as well. Now that I see you have thousands of posts, I like you even more. Seriously. Every board needs a good antagonist. If they don't have one, they will create one. Honestly, you're perfect.

Benefit: Don't get me wrong - I almost never read your posts - but I do get tremendous amusement at your consistent ability to start a thread like this that goes on for pages and pages. Oddly, this has been a really great thread that would have been impossible if it had been started by almost anyone else. Adversarial relationships can bring a community together like nothing else!

Benefit: So I will add to the mess to make one comment: humor, real friendships, even "group hugs" on this particular board serve a serious purpose. They make some frighteningly difficult and intimate discussions more bearable, more human, more honest simply by lending perspective. I don't view them as hijacks as much as good natured reminders to keep me from becoming too full of myself (Cost).

Benefit: Like you, I have no knack for witty posts and online banter, so I refrain. But I certainly appreciate the broader spectrum of insight that I see from those who do have the knack. All communication (or lack thereof) can tell us something if we look, and in BDSM, humor and community become a necessary counterbalance to the high/low intensity that often besets those in the lifestyle (ok, is it really a lifestyle or BS?).

So thank you for the post, and thanks to everyone else for all the pages of replies. Not yet sure what I learned this time around, but it did keep my attention...

JohnWarren -> RE: What's te Payoff? What's the Cost? (7/1/2008 1:02:19 PM)

Direct response?

How about, "When someone gives a pitty party, I opt out.."  After one reading of your original post, I just blocked off the notestream and returned only in response to this post which I saw in the scroll.

What's the cost of anything; what's the profit of anything? As with various bits of scene play, if you don't know, it's not worthwhile asking.

That's the direct response to the meaning of the first post,if not its question. Which I read it as "I don't like this but I don't have the balls to complain so I'm going to ask a question, much like Alvin York making turkey sounds, with hopefully the same outcome"

They all did - pity you can't see that. Therein resides your lack of understanding and appreciation.

Interesting that now you feign fatigue as an excuse to not having read any. In the face of your posts today, it speaks for your desire (need?) for attention being infinitely greater than your desire for information and/or answers.

Perhaps it is time again to re-invent yourself with yet another profile.

oh FFS.... SEVERAL people have responded to the OP... sorry you're too tired to bother reading the responses. Perhaps, given your fatigue, you should stay off the computer for a while.. a nice LONG while... maybe for good....
Or at the very least, since it seems to be so wearing for you, you should stop posting so many threads.

As to the question of "alleged" meetings and real-time friendships between folks on here, well, I don't think I have hallucinated all the people I've met here.  If that's the case, I want to know who ate all the food for my "make-believe" birthday party/CM meet & greet that "allegedly" took place at The Crucible on May 10th.  Damn.  I wonder if the "make-believe" cake I ate had any calories?  Who gave me the birthday spanking that made my ass all purple, black & blue?  Was that my "pretend" ass that was pictured in a thread about the "supposed" party?  I would've picked a sexier ass if it weren't my real one.  I guess I sent 46 "Thank-You's" to imaginary CM people in error then.  Damn...  I just can't win.

heyyyyyyyyy i missed a picture of your ass??  ~pout~  Now i am going to have to search around and try to track that one down!

oh... just so no one bitches at me for not responding, the payoff is human interaction, fun, silliness, blowing off steam, distracting ones self from work, blah freakin blah.  There are many reasons like minded people are drawn to one another, it is human nature.  Simple, huh? (Was that too bitchy or mean?  my sunburn itches so i'm fussy)

I refuse to take any topic seriously that actually asks what the payoff is to haveing made friends on the boards, or met them in real life.

And considering I have not made friends on the boards, nor met anyone from the boards in real life, I really shouldnt be posting on this matter.

Besides, I refuse to acknowledge the existance of my better nature, so how can I actually acknowledge the possibility of making friends on the boards.

And from what I have seen about your multiple profiles, I am beginning to think that possibly you are suffering from multiple personality disorder.  And I refuse to admit the existence of anyone crazier than I.
