I like brats and SAMs.   Fun to be around at times.  Whole sense of humor bit and everything.   Plus, a little friction at times.  Makes things a little more interesting in day to day life.   Provided the know the limits of things.

Sure.  Gut I find it's inportant to make limits real clear, real fast.
Play is for fun...Discipline teaches...But punishment terrifies.
Most Brats and SAMs are attention hounds.

I don't care what people call themselves.  I care what people do.

"I can be a brat," might mean that the last guy she was around called her bratty.  Perhaps I could handle situations better than he did, so she would feel less urge to act out.

I've said this before, but profiles are almost irrelevant to me when I consider contacting someone.  The lady I'm taking to M's wedding tomorrow had a profile that basically said, "Absolutely, positively don't contact me unless you have lots of experience doing X."  I wrote her and said, "I don't know how to do X.  This is a bit about me, a bit of what I can do, and this is why you interest me."  She wrote back right away.

I care about what people have accomplished, and whether they care about others.  I don't care about how they label themselves.

I think this is great. A very mature and thoughtful way to live. But... I am not able to manage the same thing. Having lived with a brat, I know that it can be really pointlessly frustrating for me, and now I try to refrain from choosing anyone who thinks they probably are one. Thus when someone insists they are one, or acts like one- not only am I not attracted to them, I'm quite turned off.

As a Dom, do you feel attracted to a woman (or man) who self-identifies as a 'brat' or a 'SAM'?

I admit I'm being nosey, but I've never understood this.

When a woman announces "I'm annoying most of the time' I think "move over there -- waaaaaay over there --- and leave me be.'

Are there Doms who rub their hands together and think ,'O good!  Lots of discipline!'?

Or is there some other appeal I'm missing?

I like brats because it gives Me something to control, I can't be doing with a quiet mousy little thing cowering or smiling constantly in the corner; how can you dominate or otherwise control a girl who doesn't need it. For Me it'd get boring if I had very little to do as a Dominant. Also, I like being sadist so punishments are fun. :).

Okay, a Big part of me wants to say No...but then I think that I kind of like the idea of a woman misbehaving intentionally for a night of punishment.  Perhaps my idea of brat is askew, but that's what they seem like to me.

Wouldn't it be lovely if there were commonly agreed upon definitions to all these words we use, like brat and SAM and such?

Since that's about as unlikely as an honest politician being elected President, I'll offer my own definitions of these two words.

A brat is a submissive who attempts to provoke "punishment" by being annoying.  A SAM is a bottom with a sense of humor who tries to make his top laugh.

I am not a brat and am not attracted to them.  I am a SAM and like them.

Call me crazy but much of the time people use a word to describe themselves and may have quite a different idea of what it means than you or I do. I find its better to talk to the person a bit.

To add to that people seem to have the tendency to warp their own description of themselves as well. Judging themselves far more harshly than I would have personally (though some go in the opposite direction as well). It's an interesting little quirk of social psych really.

Brattiness can be cute in some contexts, however used all the time it gets old fast.
That being said I tend to set things up to weed out people that would bore or irritate me before I get to know them that well.

There's no servitude in "brattiness"..... so, what's the point?

Well as for me and Master, I could be just a little bratty to him, nothing big mind you. Like bringing sugar cubes instead of the granualated surgar with his coffee. Or hell Ive been known to go completely bonkers and hide all of his socks. Now if I hid his socks and he was having a bad day and not interested in my playfullness? I'd go get his socks without another word.  But if he was in a good mood and proceded to chase me around the house while Im giggleing and refuseing to tell him where his socks are? FUN!!!

Shouldn't you reverse those two? Since SAM stands for smart mouthed masochist, and it is more likely that a masochist would try to provoke pain play?

I'm a brat, not a sam because I'm not interested in provoking punishment, but just want to make him laugh.

For me it's all in the how brat is defined. Mine might be a can be playful and has been called a brat, but he entertains me and usually knows when to stop.
I've played with one sub that is proud of his "brat" status, to the point the there aren't any Doms left that want to deal with him. He dismisses it as "no Dom is strong enough".

I don't see brats and sams as the same thing. Bratty-ness is of no interest to me but most of the subs I've had would fall in the SAM category for most people. You need to be sarcastic and impudent to survive in my world, dom or sub.  Milquetoasts of any stripe won't hold my interest.

SAM = Smart Ass Masochist.  And here's a perfect example on how we all have different definitions to the terms we use.  Your's the exact opposite of mine.

I love them but that's using the defenition in my head for "brat."  In another thread I told the story so I'll quote it here:

quote:

So my significant other/pet/brat/princess/submissive/or-whatever-label-you-want kept up her normal playful bratty behavior one day when I was busy doing something.  After a few "discussions" about settling down she said she couldn't help it that she was just a brat.  Now I do love a brat (as I define it) so I said ok and told her to come over.  I wrote "BRAT" with a sharpie on her stomach and said that she might as well be proud of it then.  I had her show people that evening sense she seemed to like it so much.  Well after a couple of days the sharpie wore off and she started up again.  I asked her if she really was proud to be a brat and she said she was.  I told her if she was so proud then she should get it tattooed on her (of course I wasn't serious).  She came back 3 hours later with just that -- "BRAT" tattooed on her stomach.  What a freaking brat!  Here is a link to the picture of it: http://www.collarme.com/photos/449535p13.jpg  It's on my profile now.  I know it looks touched up but it isn't.  I'll post a better one soon.

Everything in moderation.  My girl frequently (a few times a week) does rather bratty things.  They are always little things.  A snide comment, doing something to turn me on right when I have to leave for work, or some little act of defiance.  An example would be a few weeks ago when I asked (told politely) her to get me a pop from the fridge and a glass with some ice.  In a playful voice she said "What do you think I am, your slave?", at the same time, she did go get the things I asked for right away.

For the most part she is very well behaved, does things I ask her to do right away, and tends to be very thoughtful.  Her occasional brattiness adds spice to the relationship, and helps keep things in perspective.  I wouldn't characterize her as a brat because most of the time she isn't, but she can certainly act like one at times.

Well, he's attracted to me, so I guess he must be. But honestly doesn't how you define brat come into it? I'm not rude by sake refusing every single thing he wants. I will pounce on any chance to outperform him in puns. I will, when I know he's in a good mood, invite him to be playful by tickling or poking him. Because in the right mood he enjoys that, since he always pokes and tickles back and wins that game. Anyway, he calls me a brat and enjoys me bratting. Because when I'm in the mood for that, I'm inviting spanking and hot sex.

He prefers I  be in the mood for sex since he doesn't have much enjoyment if I'm not responsive. So he likes knowing when I am very responsive as well as happy and likely to giggle during the spanking. It works for us.

Obviously you two work together, which is awesome. I am not the poke me and tickle me type. Ever. I love quick and intelligent quips and wit and that I find to be as much giggly and bratty as I can enjoy. So, those that are identified as a brat or SAM are usually (not a single one yet) not for me.

As mentioned several times before, I believe that for many Dom's it's more of responding to a challenge. I personally can tolerate a brat to a point, but if their being a brat completely impedes any sort of progress which I may be facilitating....then it's time to call it a wrap.

Bratty and smart mouth "submissive" adults are even less attractive. There is nothing cute about questioning the legitimacy of my birth, suggesting I have carnal knowledge of my beloved mother or implying that you've been struck harder by your 12 year old sister whose testicles are obviously larger than mine.

that sounded way more like being rude, obnoxious and show a total lack of respect, rather than being playful and quick witted - and yet knowing where the line is drawn in the sand..s..there are brats and there are bitches.
