quote:
ORIGINAL: RedMagic1 I don't care what people call themselves. I care what people do. "I can be a brat," might mean that the last guy she was around called her bratty. Perhaps I could handle situations better than he did, so she would feel less urge to act out. I've said this before, but profiles are almost irrelevant to me when I consider contacting someone. The lady I'm taking to M's wedding tomorrow had a profile that basically said, "Absolutely, positively don't contact me unless you have lots of experience doing X." I wrote her and said, "I don't know how to do X. This is a bit about me, a bit of what I can do, and this is why you interest me." She wrote back right away. I care about what people have accomplished, and whether they care about others. I don't care about how they label themselves. I think this is great. A very mature and thoughtful way to live. But... I am not able to manage the same thing. Having lived with a brat, I know that it can be really pointlessly frustrating for me, and now I try to refrain from choosing anyone who thinks they probably are one. Thus when someone insists they are one, or acts like one- not only am I not attracted to them, I'm quite turned off.
