I'm rereading the series and having my usual trouble deciding which book I like best, so I figured I'd see what other HP fans think.

What's your favorite book and why?

I think it would have to be Order of the Phoenix. They are a bit more grown up and the action really starts in the Wizarding War with Voldemort. The first two books are just warm ups- they are too young and there are too many unanswered questions. They grab you just by introducing this new world, but fighting a basilisk just doesn't measure up to the fighting that occurs later when the consequenses are far more serious.

The first really interesting book is Prisoner of Azkaban. Goblet of Fire, not as good. And Half-Blood Prince a bit long winded.

Deathly Hallows was excellent and didn't disappoint. I was so afraid of a weak ending to the series.

But I think Order of the Phoenix really began the excitement and the adult themes.

(Yeah, I know. I am a bit too familiar with the series. We only own 2 1/2 full sets of hard covers. Blame the ums.)

Which was the first one?  It's the only one I managed to read - fantasy isn't my 'thing', though I did enjoy the movies.

I liked HPB because it revealed more truth about Snape. Though I refuse and repeat Refuse... to admit.. that who "dies" in the book" Dies. No my copy says that dumbldore faked his death, moved to amercia and started a school of witchcraft and wizardy to beat voldemort.

The seventh was a disappointment. She jumped around to much. Like Mione being able to make her parents forget her in the begining, but half way later cant do it to the death eaters....

No question for me - GOF  - but then, I'm a gamer so getting the Quidditch World Cup and the Tri-Wizards cup in the same book was most excellent for the likes o' me! We got a really in depth look at the Wizarding world and got to have 3 schools for the price of one. I love it and it remains my favorite book.

I'm reserving judgment till I've finished this pass through the series (midway through four at the moment), but I've noticed that I'm partial to the even-numbered books.

Goblet of Fire was by far my favorite. I thought they did a decent job with the movie as well. Especially seeing as how long the book was!

I love character development/character driven stories, so GOF was by far my favorite up until Deathly Hallows, because I love closure just as much

I voted for Half Blood but I can't say why exactly. I like them all and my favorite changes from day to day. Right now I am listenin to Chamber of Secrets on tape while I carve, but it would be one of my least favorites.

Yea I liked OotP alot too, bit depressing though. The fireworks were the best, but it really ticked me off that in the movie George and Fred pulled the stunt during the OWLs. They were very specific in the book about not screwing up the other students studying and I am not sure why they had them do it in the movie.

I also own a ton of HP stuff and books, but I don't have any ums to blame. Oh well.

I can tell you which one was NOT my favorite, and it was the last one was deeply disapointed in it. But between the others I liked the ones where he was discovering about wizardry the best. Why? Because I wish that neat stuff like the reparo spell were real, and in that moment at least you could believe magic exsisted.
