Add to that "My dear"
<<shudder>>  Sometimes it is very difficult to force myself to be more tolerant.

I personally loved when my now x called me little one, but then again we WERE involved with each other. It's annoying when strangers deem it apropriate to take familar liberties with me though.

Young Lady is actually one of my favorites if you use the right tone. :)

Now, in defense, I do use the term 'little one', myself.  But I use it towards kids or 'baby girls', not random people I chat with.  And its always said in a caring tone.

heh... that always invites a giggle from me, to a full out guffaw depending on how much younger he is than I.

I know the tone you're referring to.... the tone itself is hot as hell.  I know whatcha mean... but the words themselves ruin it for me.  Dunno why... they just do. :)

I agree.. and yet.. when it is said with my panties down at my ankles and my nose is pressed against the corner wall.. .. it just seems to fit.

However.. it is impossible to tell the tone when someone is typing it out in an email to a stranger.

The only time I ever guffawed at a "term of endearment" from a dominant was when he called me "child" ... As in, "dear child, you have only to surrender yourself to MY will ..."

That is an important point.  I never see, think, or believe someone is dominant until they are my dominant.  Everyone else is on an equal level with me, until my estimation of them goes up, or down.
<g> I have guffawed on more than one occasion.

I agree. In the right context, I like that one. It does help that the Dom who says it to me is 10 years my senior. I don't think it would have the same effect coming from a D type younger than I am, lol.

LOL.... point well taken.

It hasn't happened since, but one time a while back when he said, "That's not the way it's going to be, Young Lady, and I KNOW you hate that and I don't care.  Young Lady...." that it was going to be a very (very) long night.

In email, the ick factor would go up by a magnitude of ten.  At least.  Thankfully, I've been spared it.

But, to summarize, I think you all are each correct.  Tone - hot.  Panties down and nose pressed to corner - hot.  That night a while back - hot.

I think I need to re-evaluate. :)

LOL Dont come to Texas you will hate it here then... Everyone will be calling your sweetheart. Waitresses will walk up to you and say "What can I get for ya sweetheart?" Girl, Baby Girl, Sweety, Sweetheart, Sugar, etc are all standard terms used in every day speech with strangers... Hell when I picked up cigarettes this morning I got "Hey boy whereya'll bin hidin?" and "See ya later sweety" from the clerk... Ah, green eyed Walgreens girls

I am having to laugh a little here.  Little One, Young Lady, Pretty Girl, Sweety, Honey...in whatever context, done in person (especially with that sweet accent) send a little shiver of excitement down my spine (in rememberance? anticipation? - who cares!).   In text - Lame attempt to establish dominance without ever even chatting.   Not a dominant .... sex seeker.  :-)

I call people sugar, sweetie and darlin' a lot and it's not meant to be anything other than a cute, polite southern endearment.

Were I looking, I wouldn't automatically throw the baby out with the bath water if a dominant used some term of endearment right off.  I think it would just depend on too many things.

I tend to call people hun, but thats generally a response when someone uses a pet name on me and I don't know them.
I do think that for a lot of people, localities, upbringing and such using cute names is normal.  But in an email it does make many of us toss them in the reject pile.  I would think for that reason alone, adding in a pet name to a stranger in email would cut down a success rate.
I am attracted to logic.  And using strategies that do not work for a lot of people would make me question how much contact they have had with people they never met.

Really? Mine are intimate friends.  LOL However they occasionally part company to hang out with other friends, recklessness and solitude.

and not even his sub yet either...

I am curious. How is it that you would be furious over what is clearly a benign term of affection (degrading ?) by anybody let alone somebody with whom you (in this case) might invite to chat and as a possible 'munch mate ?'
