Can anyone answer this for me?

I live in the middle of Michigan. Why oh why, why oh WHY are there seagulls in the parking lots of our local stores?
No beach in sight but there up in the sky it's a bird, no a plane!
No No!
It is psychooooo seagull!!

I am terrified of birds and when it comes to seagulls in a parking lot diving bombing me it is just hell.

Are they lost?

This doesn't include the rest of the 11,000 lakes that are located in the same state we are. It doesn't include all the rivers, lakes, streams and other areas of water. Not to EVEN mention that itsy bitsy little fact of being surrounded by FIVE Great Lakes. In addition to all that, Michigan has the largest wetlands area outside of the Mississippi Delta region.

And you're wondering why we have seagulls?

Seagulls are my family's greatest pasttime. Metropolitan Beach early in the morning just as the sun is coming up... the gulls are there just waiting to begin the day. We used to run right into the midst of them just to see them fly up into the air.

The islands on the Detroit River are nesting grounds for them and well into the night, you can hear them as they fight and eat and eat and fight (sometimes, I think that's all they do.) My Master and I go right past them on the way to our favorite fishing areas...There are so many that the greenery of the islands is white with birds nesting.

Michigan has fishflies and Michigan has seagulls... They both are stinky and often a nuisance, but that's just the way it is. Skyrats or not, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

i'd so trade it to get rid of the skyrats...

i remember when i was younger and used to visit the ocean near my parents' house more often, seagulls would make the news once in awhile as the people were warned time and time again that killing them was illegal...

that didn't really phase the kids with alka seltzer and rice though... as much as i hate them, i wouldn't personally blow them up, however twisted as it is, the news reports always made me laugh

:p
