...i know this has been somewhat discussed here. but i just wanted to see the view agian. i have seen some discussion on depression and bipolar disorders. i have bipolar, and i do alot to keep it in check. you have ups and downs, but i really try. well anyways i had a Dom last nite ask me somethin. "how can you be a submissive if you have bipolar?" my submission comes deep with in me. even though my moods come up and down. i still know my place. i know who i am proudly and i know that the disorder to is part of me also. i dont have a Dom at the moment. but i think that its not the question of bipolar would keep me from submitting to Him. His guidence to me would lead me back in mind set if i strayed. " with His hands that lead, she shall follow!" that is my thoughts. any thoughts on this subject. may i ask what you all think? thank you and peace

My Sir and i had a pet who was bipolar, and not on any medication. She was VERY up and down - and very hard to live with in that there was always a drama going on - even if we didn't know it. I'm a pretty easy going person so that aspect was something of a trial. I like a calm peaceful house.

I wouldn't pay that person any attention. That's like asking someone how he walks with his leg cut off....why a prosthesis of course. And for someone with bipolar...correct management and understanding. For someone with diabetes? The correct diet and medications. For someone with depression? understanding, encouragement, and the right help. How bout with UMs? Discretion and tolerance. I could go on all day. How does anyone do anything? None of us are completely unafflicted. We all have something that may be considered a negative or a hindrence in our lives. This guy sounds a bit uneducated and narrow minded to me.

.....kiwi, so do you think that one with disorders, that kinda wack the brain thinkings. that we cant server respectfully?. i dont mean that question to you in a attack way. maybe the key word is really trying to keep a grip even if meds are needed . i guess it just pissed me off that this Dom said, hey can you really be a sub with bipolar?. i serve completly, and i have served many times. i havent changed in my ways of my submission. i have grown more deeper with in it. but i have always had bipolar." its like hey can assholes who ask a ? without really thinking it [:@]out a true Dom!"

Several years back I was friends with a moderately bi-polar woman who was also submissive. She wasn't my sub but we were discussing the possiblity at one point. Prior to her being diagnosed, she said she had problems in her relationships because her outlook on life went from one extreme to the other and she would do things she would later regret. Once she new how to control the illness the fluctuactions because much less severe so she could commit to a semi-stable relationship. It seems to me that if the condition is generally under control and your Dom how bi-polarism affects you, you should be able to work through it together.

Let's all remember too that she is speaking of a disease that deals with alot of emotion and pain. With the Right Ownership and micromanagement, this life can play well into easing your mind. The feeling of always being safe and owned should be a comfort in whatever form it comes. But it is up to your Owner to take the TIME and have PATIENCE and get to know what it is that triggers you. Back when he was My pet, I had a sub with bipolar. The fact that someone has it has nothing to do with whether or not a person can be a submissive. It is like anything else. You use the proper treatment for the individual so they can be the best person that they can be. In My pet's case, that included instilling a ritual about medication. When it became something that he did because of service to Me, he was actually more apt to take it. (Btw, I would suggest this to anyone who has a sub in their life that tends to 'forget' meds or vitamins. It brings great results.) Whoever it was that you talked to, OP, obviously doesn't know that much about the disorder.

As long as you're taking care of yourself and dealing with your disorder instead of just letting it run wild without medication, I fail to see how it makes you any less capable of being submissive. The two are not related at all. Obviously it may get tense if you have a "moment" and that may require a special sort of person to have patience for, but good people who don't look down their nose at others for it are out there, they do exist, and they are absolute godsends. Seriously, do not let that asshole talk down to you and make you feel like some horrible person who can't do anything just because of a relatively common diagnosis.

...very well said Sir Darien. my thoughts exactally. with any problems life hands us. we deal with them the best we can at the moment, then move on. i know for me this is, i need a Doms direction and structure. thats what keeps me focused and on the right path of serving with proud and honor. and Dark, also Your are right, the moods swings are sometimes very extrememe. and i guess it does take a special paitent Dom/Domme to look at her/him in a more guiding hand of care. i long to serve my One someday, to proudly kneel and give Him the good days with the bad. now if i could just get my crystal ball out and see where i can find One..grins

As long as you keep yourself well medicated, keep yourself in therapy to improve your patterns and stability, and are with someone understanding and patient about your disorder, there shouldn't be a problem. I am very unlikely to get involved in a relationship with anyone like that, but the door isn't completely closed and it's all due to some very bad past experiences with a few bipolars who did NOT take care of themselves.

I'm bipolar but most people don't notice it and many people don't believe me when I do disclose it. It involves being properly medicated and taking personal responsibility for managing my illness. This isn't really something you can delegate to someone else. I did have med reminders from Sir for a while just to get the med habit down. Once the right ones were in my system I had no trouble remembering because I felt so much better. My current challenge is an unexpected pregnancy that forced me to cold turkey off meds because of the serious risks my meds posed to the baby. The last 6 weeks was a horrible ride, but I did make it. I had support from Sir, but most of the work just couldn't be done by him. There was a good deal of time spent with me absolutely mentally frustrated and out of patience and him reminding me that it was just the way we had to wean making it so hard and that it would get better. He did pamper me a bit and take a lot of stress off of me, but during that time I really couldn't handle a lot of things. It's part of the risk in having a bipolar sub who's still fertile. People don't want to hear it, probably, but I would be extremely skeptical of a relationship with a bipolar person. I would have to have a pretty long platonic phase to see how steady they were on their meds and their committment to taking care of themselves. A person with unmanaged bipolar is not relationship material in any way, shape or form.

angel that is the biggest load of BS ever. i am bipolar. got stuck with it 18 years ago, offically. what alot of people forget is that even though the symptoms come out emotionally, it is still a physical condition. like others have said being responsible for the condition is the biggest factor in how a person deals with themselves and the overall world. medication is a godsend. staying with a psyche that knows you, accepting the therapy when you need it. make a huge difference. that was the rough one for me. knowing that off and on through my life i was gonna have to throw that in there. the biggest part is just keeping track of yourself, and having someone that is willing to say hey i think things might be a lil off here. those that know you and love tend to notice first. then you adjust. i personally wouldnt opt for a relationship with someone that was bi-polar. this is just my own feelings. i figure i carry enough baggage on that front. personally i choose to view it as a plus. our brains work a lil differently than others. we have been places that others pay lots of money to get. (not that i ever wanna go there agian..hehe) but i honestly think it gives me insight, understanding and hopefully tolerance that i wouldnt have otherwise. smooches lee

There are more than one type of bipolar. Some of it can be behavioral. It can also be from chemical imbalances... whic is a mental DISEASE. Try and tell me it isnt. I have it.
