With a 50-75 percent divorce rate? The courts so don't give a fuck. They are whining about how heavy there caseload is out there and how they have to use their life force up to weigh the world and space-time juxtapositions of the law and the humanity of the far reaching consideration of the consequence. This is so they can lay it off on a secretary who makes boilerplate from some boughten document and searches the statutes under westlaw or their competitor, fills the shit in and the esquire signs it. Actually takes about 30 minutes in the cookie cutter operation (there aint a goddamn thing new under the law in that sense) bills you for 4 hours.

Hey now...domestic relations is extremely difficult work. Because it rarely pays well it does attract some bad lawyers, but myself and others worked our asses off for clients who were mostly represented for free and sincerely cared about the outcome for our clients. It's like anything else; some lawyers are good, some great, some need to be disbarred.

I don't give a rat's hat whether they get married or just shack up. Just hush up about it. What they really want is benefits. Survivor benefits for Social Security. Health benefits that are afforded to spouses. Now, that would cost companies money. That's the crux of the debate.

The divorce rate for m/f couples is about 50%. I'd imagine that it would be similar for m/m or f/f couples. What a hassle.

Well, i don't care if it costs a company money to provide benefits. People have inherent worth and dignity and should be free to conduct their lives as they see fit...with the same benefits as anyone else. i personally think more companies need on-site day care...benefits for domestic partners is already widely accepted. Hey, if Disney does it, how out of the mainstream can it be?

if two pepole love one another they should ahve the option of getting married, they be man man, man woman or woman woman, i might even go so far as to say poly hoseholds should be alowed to marry, who cares aboute the shape and from of the love, as long as none get hurt and there is love, let it grow.

LadyAngelika
i wanted to thank you first for Your comments. not only have You presented Yourself as extremely open-minded, You have gathered experience/knowledge from those who live it first hand.

i am a lesbian. i have children. i have a girlfriend that i have been with for 2 years. we have 4 children together all of which we have sole custody. marriage would be nice in the future. it is not something either of us take lightly nor will we rush into it, though we love each other dearly. our small-town community has a majority of people that do not agree with homosexuality, gay or lesbian wise. but having lived openly here for the past few years, they have opened their arms to us. they have seen us attend events openly, lovingly, with all our children in tow. they have complimented us on our parenting skills and how well-behaved our children are and how well they all get along. maybe small minds can change.

i think homosexuality isn't necessarily feared, but it is another means to control a minority group, i.e. women, african americans, hispanics, etc. another way for businesses to save money by not having to cover someone's lesbian lover...by not having to hand over partner benefits to us, etc. now mind you, i do not think i have any rights to any benefits that would follow my partner's demise as i have not been with her that long. but those of us that i know personally even, that have been together for 30 years through good and bad....THEY DESERVE IT.

i see a lot of posts here replying that Yyou all support the right for gays and lesbians to marry. but how many of Yyou have actually voted to give us that right?

and just for the record, without being married to my partner, when we file our income taxes and we each claim 2 children, and each claim head of household, we get back enough between the two of us to buy a NEW NICE VEHICLE each year. so as far as i am concerned, that is payment enough fo that lack benefits, rights, etc.

i apologize if any of this is taken wrong, however i do not apologize for my stance.

sincerely
sothernnyte

In a lot of states, people don't get the right to vote on the subject. For example, in my former state, Massachusetts, the decision was made by the State Supreme Court. It created such a stir that the governor went back to a 1930s law passed to appease segregationsists to prevent people coming in from other states to be married in state.

While we didn't get to vote we took an active role in the counter demonstations outside the State House and even got our few seconds of fame where comments Libby and I made were broadcast nationally.

JohnWarren and Libby,
i sincerely thank You not only for Yyour response but for the aggressive stance Yyou both took. it is always a welcome sight when examples of "going against the grain' types of people stand up publicly for Ttheir beliefs or Ttheir support of others.
once more, i thank Yyou both.

Sincerely
sothernnyte
