Fast Reply - Reading these responses about blood, I am inspired to start telling subs I might play with who enjoy the more extreme end of play where blood is often drawn buy, maintain and bring thier own leather toys, floggers, single tail and such in their toy bag (and it will be much easier 'size up' a sub if I can also inspect the toys they bring with them, that should tell me a great deal about them, hmmm?).  I don't want to start replacing my equipment every time I play with a different person.

DiurnalVampire -> RE: Marking during play (7/15/2008 3:33:43 PM)

Fox and I both enjoy the marks let from out playtime. We realized that he heals up very quickly, so we take photos of the marks left ater play so he can see them and they stick around for more than a day.

It depends in the person and their situation.  Some people want to be bruised and left with welts and red marks.  Some do not, usually due to family and/or career responsibilities.

I love having marks and leaving marks. It's definitely important to have the skill to not leave marks when necessary, but they're just so totally wonderful that I hate it when I can't leave them! D is living with his family(we're college students) so I can't do anything that might be visible for now. It's tough! I can't wait until I can freely cover him with the evidence of our more vigorous play!

I have to agree,I dont like not leaving some type of mark.
The skill of not leaving long lasting marks,is to just go lighter
with the whacks etc.

I have to say that i hate the fact that i no longer bruise easily. The days of a blue butt from a spanking are gone - and i mourn them. I loved bumping into doors or tables at work and feeling that little twinge of pain. Now my butt just goes red and gets hard. Not nearly as much fun to my way of thinking.

This is probably because when you were first starting you used to tense up and/or even flinch when you where hit, but now when the pain comes you relax into it. I know that after I began to train Mine to relax and breathe properly through her pain it became much more difficult to leave a bruise. If you really want to be black and blue again, then tense up.  If there is less give in your muscle tissue you are far more likely to bruise.

I find that the wooden cutting board,it has a handle
that makes it easy to hold  it will leave a mark.Every time
Its wicked solid, like the paddle I got from a College.
Have to throw in that classic line(except I add Mistress)
Thank You Mistress may I have another. The funny about that
is I give 6 whacks etc at a time...if they ask for another one
after the 6 are done they get a wicked hard whack...
I am always amazed that they forget to not ask for another
whack... Its just too funny to Me,makes Me laugh.
The joys of being a Domme [:D]
I let Punk try it out on Me one time...[sm=gaah.gif]ow ow ow
does that hurt.

Another way to mark submissives in a non painful
way is to color on them using the permanent markers.
They have so many colors now I can do flowers
all over them,I love it.
I also have an ink pad and a stamp that says ME!
on it,that can be fun too.I have stamps of hands, feet
and a peace sign.I add to the mix rolling 6 dice
and thats how many flowers,or ink pad stamps they get.

On a side note..I use the cavicide on ALL My stuff.
Leather,Suede,Chains,Rope,Paddles(wood),Whips,Crops
and all surfaces.I havent had any problems with it staining
anything like bleach does.Nothing like some bleach to
ruin a dog choker collar.Bleach does do a good job
on things, like the medical bed and the potty chair.

back to the topic at hand.

So, how do you feel about marks?  What's your philosophy?  As a sub, how do marks that last days or a week make you feel?  As a top, do you enjoy marking, or do you try to avoid it?  And why?

We like them a lot.  My hubby is a pain pig and expects to get marked.  He likes getting marks that he can enjoy for days afterwards, but they're usually gone the next morning.  He likes getting burned (cautery pen, cigarettes, moxa, etc.) partly for the endorphins and partly because he can enjoy the marks for months or even years.

When I bottom, I expect that marks are sometimes going to be part of the deal.  I don't mind them, sometimes I kind of like them.  I was pretty sad when the scars from a hook-pull event we attended faded into invisibility.  As a top, I don't get off on marks for their own sake, but I like doing things that leave marks.  When I'm playing with the hubby, I try to leave him with some momentos.  I find "no marks" can be a rather difficult limit to work with.  It takes so many fun things off the table.

tensing up is indeed a factor with leaving marks... but so is alot of other things... like positioning... type toy.. force of impact. chemicals in the body (like aspirin)... and then there is always just the person's physical nature where they mark easily are are very difficult to mark just to name a few.

there is also a question of what exactly is a mark..  breaking the skin will automatically leave a mark.... as compared to marks that are bruising under the skin.  of course some people heal very fast compare to others.  then depending on the type of mark and the aftercare given... it will affect the healing rate.  Then there is those that marks that happen immediately and those marks that come in later.  of course there is also the whole process of the marks healing and various changes it goes throght..   It has been my experience based on the variety of people that I play with that I perfer to consider each person and situation individually and not put to much stock in lumping people into one big box.  Way to many factors to consider... to make judgements of others situations based on narrow information or experience.

MaamJay -> RE: Marking during play (7/15/2008 7:09:34 PM)

Darn it, i just don't mark! Master will get my ass positively red and glowing like fire ... and He'd better photograph it quick or it will be gone within the hour! i've taken spankings at spank parties that have had the other bottoms there trembling, been flogged real hard ... and nothing has lasted. What's even odder is that sometimes He will spot a bruise somewhere on me and say "Where'd you get that?" and i haven't a clue! It's frustrating! i like the ink pen idea though He's not arty ... the ink stamps ... just buying those for card-making, hadn't actually thought about perverting them! (Yet!) thank you!! [:D]

As a Domme, I will negotiate as to whether marks are OK or not, if they aren't, I do My best not to leave any though explain that until I get to know their skin, I can't really give a guarantee. This is why I do impact play early in the scene so I can watch their skin and see how it recovers. However, with someone who likes marks, I can really enjoy creating them!

Besides, there is no way to sterililze floggers and whips, so once they are bloodied they are no good for anyone but the person whose blood was drawn.  And if you are a dom/domme who plays with multiple subs and is unconcerned with that, I suggest that you are unsafe.

According to the CDC the HCV virus, of which I am a carrier, cannot survive for four days outside the body.  I'm not sure what the maximum survival time for the HIV virus is, but I'm pretty sure it's shorter than HCV.  My point is, when the blood cells die, the viruses in them die as well.  While it's not possible to sterilize many toys, they can be rendered safe, at least as far as spreading viruses goes, simply by leaving them unused for a week or so.

True enough, I agree completely that there are many factors that affect marking, but in the case I was responding to... the case of a person who once bruised easily under lesser blows, and no longer does, THAT is probably simply a matter of a change in the way they react to the blow, now that they have more experience.. i.e. they no longer tense up like they used to.

Racquelle -> RE: Marking during play (7/15/2008 7:22:30 PM)

I love the marks so much that I sometimes stop and admire and lick or bite the marks, or just hold my cheek up against them.  I try not to break or abrade the skin - it's often an invitation to infection.  Even after a short scene, I like a sub to come sit or stand with me so I can caress the hot red marks.  I also enjoy rolling a cold soda can or drink bottle over those hot marks - that seems to perk up the skin in such a deliciously contrasting way.  I am pretty sure I bruise if someone just looks at me funny.  I had a very nibbly sub who left two perfectly mouth shaped bruises on my inner thighs once.  Was very funny.

Using a 91% rubbing alcohol solution, in a spray bottle, spraying the toys heavily will greatly reduce/and or kill most viruses on ANY surface.  I personally have my slaves purchase their own toys, so that they may be kept in 'cubby boxes' with their names, so no one has to be exposed to what anyone else, may or may not have.  I hope that helps.  :)

I believe a 10% bleach solution is actually a more effective viricide than alcohol.  Having the bottom have his own toys isn't a bad idea either, at Desert Dominion we encourage it highly.  Unfortunately, my own submissive cannot afford to buy toys and my budget for them is small.  One solution for this is pervertables.  Toys don't HAVE to cost a fortune.  All sorts of disposable things can be used as canes.  But still, one of my primary rules is that any toy that's been used on me is NOT used on her for at least a week.

That's a lovely profile you have, by the way.  Except the part about you being 2182 miles away from here.

LadyHugs -> RE: Marking during play (7/15/2008 9:12:52 PM)

Dear TwoDommeDivas, Ladies and Gentlemen;

I personally feel, that the psychological well being of individuals should be the first thing considered; as far as giving marks and or leaving them.  Each person handles this differently and the Dominant, I hope; will conform as to tailor what is important to the mental, emotional and spiritual well being of the individual; as well as the physical.

Healing also occurs differently in each person and, what may be a week for one, might be a month for others.  Those with blood disorders, circulation issues may be the ones at risk the most.  What is often interesting, in a way, some of these marks that don't heal may work as a warning flag for underlying and or undetected medical issues, e.g. circulation, etc.

Once I do understand how the submissive/slave/servant/masochist feels about the marks prior to a scene; then I act accordingly.  For me, I am not bothered in either respect; as far as marking someone or not.  My skills are, that I do not leave marks if I choose such; and I can be rather intense in some Sado-maso scenes, with the 'right' person.  Yet, I can be extremely sensual and get the results I wish; and any degree between the two points.

When using a single tail and or multiple single tails (in Florentine style); I do not need to mark deeply or scrape the skin.  What does happen if the lash/cracker/popper is hitting too much on the skin; the knots of the cracker/popper/lash is what causes the skin to welt, become streaked and or draw redness; or the body of the whip, the lower portion of the leather braid of the single tail, is hitting the skin, where the popper/cracker/lash is sewn into the whip.  Few understand that the single tail stretches the harder the send; which lengthens the whip; causing the cracker/popper/lash to mash into the stroke, knots hitting first, then the 'lash's bangs' or the frayed end.  When cracking the whip it roughly extends three-to-six inches briefly as it breaks the barrier of sound.

Marks can also appear when floggers have a tail and or tails that have stretched and are longer than the rest of the tails that make up the 'body' of the flogger.  Hanging level; all tails hopefully will be the same length.  If not, the offenders are the longer tails and need to be cut down to be like bangs; using the end of a non-offending tail as a pattern to cut to conform to the whip's original design.  For braided cat-o-nines; most whip makers are very willing to re-braid and or correct an offending tail.

I personally feel that marks should be done with purpose and plan; not just accidental and or by circumstance.  Using the body's nerve bundles to my advantage; the whip, single tail, flogger, cane and or other tool; is merely an extention of my intentions.

Just some thoughts.

Respectfully submitted for consideration,
Lady Hugs

um no...  experience or should I say repeated scenes of low impact will have a more an affect on the level of brusing than a person's mindset.  Brusing by it's nature will have an affect of making the flesh area more resistent to brusing in the future.. hense the term Leather Butt.  But again .. besides the impact levels.. the area of the body we are talking about.. the type of toy used.. the position of the body all have more of an impact than any partiuclar mindset when we talking brusing... just to name a few.

sixteen -> RE: Marking during play (7/16/2008 7:25:06 PM)

it doesnt always have to be a bruise during my play my master ALWAYS marks me when we finish. He always right property of master....(he doesnt want me releasing his info) so when we finish he always rights on my ass and most of the time my whole body except for places that are visible. i alctully like it as it shows whos in charge and it doesn end when we leave. im actully punished if the marks are removed when we play again.

I'm not much into drawing blood.  It happens, especially with a singletail, but unless I am fluid bonded with that person I will try actively to avoid blood.  Have you ever seen the incredibly fine mist of blood that can be created by a bullwhip, which quickly dissolves into the air for everyone in the room to inhale?

Besides, there is no way to sterililze floggers and whips, so once they are bloodied they are no good for anyone but the person whose blood was drawn.  And if you are a dom/domme who plays with multiple subs and is unconcerned with that, I suggest that you are unsafe.

If you have enough control, and choose to, the only part of the whip to contact the bottom is the cracker. You simply have to replace the cracker with a new one each time you play with another.

With knowledge safety *can* be found.

Well, personally...I LOVE being marked. It's difficult to fully explain, but...they make me feel used, special, and beautiful at the same time.
