I buy the $8-$15 drugstore sunglasses.
That way I don't feel too bad when I sit on them or lose them.

Popeye, I am the exact same way. Although I lost my favourite pair last Saturday and am really annoyed. I probably paid less than $10 for them, and have had them for at least 5 years, but DAMMIT, I like them!

I tend to think of the generic term "aviators" as shape. And, I address anyone who wears them as "Maverick".

Its "Kermit" thank you very much... Although certain women shorten it to "Kermie" ...

omg am i being silly if i say that's is absolutely adorable???

Pixi , thank you you're a woman of obvious taste.  Yes Mike, it is indeed "Kermit" . It was changed to Kermit after a rather embarssing incident with a annoying stalker woman who chased me around yelling "Keeeeeeevieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" It reached the point where the guys were like "Hey Kermit dont go out the south gate, Miss Piggy is waiting for you there..." Call signs are generally either a play on your name Like a guy whos name is Dill will become "Pickles", some physical charectoristic of you such as "Snakeshit" for a short guy because hes "lower to the ground than snakeshit", or it is a play on some embarassing thing that you've done or had happen - such as "BlisterDick" , "Kermit" , or "Bambi"....

On the $8 - $15 sunglasses and/or the oakleys - sunglasses arent a "fashion accessory" they are protectivce gear that protect your vision from damage by IR and UV light. Cheap sunglasses, or many designer sunglasses, offer no real protection to your eyes. If you read the link I posted to the FAA brochure you can learn all about what you need to  properly protect your vision.

Somehow - it doesn't surprise me that DA has a callsign like "Kermit" - don't ask why, it simply doesn't.

We won't go into the call sign that I was given by a couple of buddies out at the airport years ago.  Yes, they were military guys that happened to go out to the small civ airport I fly out of during their off hours, for recreational flights. I won't mention the actual name given - for Various reasons.  Nuff said.

As far as the sunglasses thing goes - I've had two pairs of the Randolfs and I absolutely Love them.  Best sunglasses I've ever had.  Unfortunately, I don't tend to Lose my really good sunglasses - they get Stolen.  The pairs that don't get stolen are the cheap ones that offer little in the way of actual eye protection.  My $300 prescription pair of sunglasses (aviator style, with the top UV and IR rating that could be had in a prescription pair) got stolen less than 2 months after I got them.  My first pair of Randolfs lasted for 3 years, got stolen at the airport from sitting on top of my flight bag.  Second pair of Randolfs lasted all of 3 months before they got stolen - again out at the airport (different airport, though) from where they were sitting next to my flight bag.

I love Oakley's on men, and Vuarnet's are still hot here. I love my tortie Prada sunglasses, they are my favorite. I do have to say, my Dad is a pilot, helicopter, US Army, and I am a fan of the Aviators, they look kind of hot. That is the Aviator glasses, I am not hitting on DA.

Ahem, mine are in any of three possible places...

#1) On my nose any time I am outdoors and it is daylight
#2) Hanging on the outside of my shirt pocket if indoors in a formal setting.
or
#3) On my forehead if it is night time, or if I am in a bar, or something like that...

VERY hard to steal them that way...

Yeah yeah yeah.... rub it in Kermit - go ahead, laugh it up.

I was young and dumb at the time, and still held out vain hope for the "best" in humanity.  I'm older, wiser, and a lot less trusting of that "best" these days...

I have two pairs of the drug store sunglasses on the desk because one of my slaves is always forgetting his when we go downtown or to the beach.  For driving I have to wear corrective lenses so have a pair of prescription sunglasses for daytime driving and a clear pair with a prescription for night.
