Totally serious, shadow, that has to be one of the silliest filters I've ever heard.

Well i'm new lol and it's not something i really thought about much it just came to mind that when i see a name without caps i just automatically assume they are less D.   This is a first impression and not really a filter.  This is why i ask opinions cause as is often the case i can be very out in left field in my views of things due to lack of experience.

I find that the ideas that spew forth from someone's brain is more telling of what they're like than whether or not they capitalize their name, my name or the Pope's.

nah .. thats just stupid ....

One shouldn't let lack of experience cloud common sense.

akisha -> RE: Capitals (7/17/2008 8:29:10 AM)

The Upper case Dominants and the lowercase submissive habit was formed online in chatrooms. It is not "true standard" of how things are done.

I take a person as seriously as they prove themselves to be.

Why would you care if they cap or not???

I'm a submissive on some sites my name is capped on others it's not.

Duskwolf -> RE: capitils (7/17/2008 8:29:41 AM)

RedMagic, Aileen, HK and a couple of others covered everything I have to say really.
They also probably worded it a lot less brutally. :D

To have someones poor spelling or grammar affect your view of them is perhaps understandable (even then there are obvious reasons that could be considered unfair), but to respect someone less for writing their name in lowercase without even knowing them, or if there is a reason (as Puppen pointed out) for it to be so? Laughable.

Yes, I have just crossed you off my dom 'to do' list. [:D]

Whether people capitalise their nic or not doesn't impact on my impressions of them on here.  I tend to be more interested in how and what they write.  I capitalise everyone's name (including my own) when I address them in writing.  It seems grammatically obscene not too!!

less of as a person no, just less Dominant but  this of course is just first impressions.   yes i know i spelled the thread title wrong :P   i have no idea how to fix it.   i'm terrible at spelling and rely on spell check which skips the title of the post.
Face to face is obviously an entirely different matter lol.

You are inconsistent in your capitalization.  If My Pet started doing that, I wouldn't know if sentences starting with "i" were special anymore.

i am aware of this (and have fixed the pointed out errors) :P   and it is something i am working on,  my spelling grammar and punctuation are very poor though i am slowly getting better.   However i will admit i have double standards and expect more out of a D then i do out of myself.   And although i am working on my own writing skills for myself if i was involved with a D that pressed the issue i would most certainly spend more time proof reading before clicking "ok".  But as i mentioned i am new (to a great many things including posting on forums of any type) and it is a learning process.

Common sense has never been something i have had in abundance.  Thus the reason why i seek out opinions on this matter and others as they will influence my own point of view.  Which then indeed make me realize that little things like this that seem out of place to me don't matter as much as i may think.    Obviously by the overwhelming responses i shouldn't worry to much about capitalized names.

Missokyst -> RE: capitils (7/17/2008 8:56:53 AM)

Since I never figured out how people would say a capital in face to face meetings, this ONLINE (note the caps for emphasis) always seemed like hooey to me.
I cap my name because it is proper.  I don't uncap my name because I am sub.  Sometimes if my hands are tired I don't hit the cap key. Its pretty much a crap shoot on other days.
I think if you are accustomed to being an online sub you can do what you want,  Certainly if those small things matter to you in finding a dom then use those filters.  Personally a man can call himself LORDMASTERBIGDICKDOM and for me he is just a guy with a cap fetish until I meet him.  And even then, I would want to see if only a part of that nick was based on reality.
It is the person, and not the identity that matters to me.
This online protocal of caps, no caps, slashy stuff is something that does not carry over into real life face to face meetings, and that is what matters to me.  Online is no indication of real.

darchChylde -> RE: capitils (7/17/2008 9:15:57 AM)

i've heard that due to the fact my username is capitalized midway through, i am a switch

i thought i did it to differentiate between two words since i don't have an underscore handy

really, how others cap or don't cap has no effect on how i see them; now if their user name was loaded with 1337 5p37k i might get a major case of the "you gotta be kidding me"s

pixidustpet -> RE: capitils (7/17/2008 9:23:20 AM)

i broke my wrist a few years back.  the idiot doc didnt set it correctly,just splinted it (cause it was swollen).  the last 2 fingers are numb.  so my ability to tell if i am hitting the shift key on the right side is fairly iffy.

hence, not much on the capitalization.

DesFIP -> RE: capitils (7/17/2008 9:45:50 AM)

Old English major here. It annoys me when people don't cap their name.

But I appreciate Puppen's comment, since that's something I didn't know. When the site had a glitch and I couldn't use my account, I gave up and started this one. Just as well since it took over 3 months for them to fix the problem.

More importantly, what matters in a thread is the thought expressed, not the gender or orientation of the writer. A thought is not bad if expressed by a female sub and yet an awesome insight if the same thing is then said by a dominant male, for example.

thishereboi -> RE: capitils (7/17/2008 10:19:51 AM)

I really don't pay a lot of attention to who caps what. I know this is a major concern to some, but to me it's not. This is the internet and they are just screennames.

YourhandMyAss -> RE: capitils (7/17/2008 10:19:56 AM)

No. I think it's silly to take someone less seriously based on weather or not they capitalized their nick name. Maybe they don't care about online protocals someone else said they should care about. I personally prefere that dominants do not become sheeples and follow protocal just because it's supposed to be done. or is lauded and THE protocal to do. I believe you make your own protocals and own rules for your own self.  I'd take someone less seriously because they did internet protocal just because it was lauded as THE protocal to follow.

i notice there are  Dom/Dommes on here that do not capitalize their name, and a few subs that do capitalize theirs.   i suppose if someone is new when they open the account they may not even think about it when they create the account.  Regardless of the reason though i notice that if a D has their name without capital i just automatically take them less seriously as a D.  Perhaps it's just cause i view them as less experienced, i'm not sure exactly the reasoning perhaps because it shows they are not familiar with various aspects or protocols which creates trust issues.   i don't claim to know much about protocols  and i'm definitely not very good at the entire capilitizing and such however i'm a submissive and am willing to be trained in anything protocols, rules or anything else for that matter a D wishes of me.
So i am curious what others think when they see a Dom/Domme with lowercased name, if it changes your first impression and overall view of them?

YourhandMyAss -> RE: capitils (7/17/2008 10:29:17 AM)

You probably won't do to well in this lifestyle if you don't have common sense.  There won't always be a message board handy to ask something that should be common sense.

Shawn1066 -> RE: capitils (7/17/2008 10:33:11 AM)

I think it's silly to judge somebody over if they capitilize their name or not.  Then again, I guess I'm not a good slave because my Owner doesn't demand that I lowercase my "I", refer to myself as an "it", or because I'm allowed to speak my mind.  And I also guess she's not a serious dominant because she doesn't mindlessly obey the rules of propriety likely set up by lonely people in chat rooms.

Oh dear, I'm sure we won't get our official certificates now. :-(

GreedyTop -> RE: capitils (7/17/2008 10:44:46 AM)

I do so love that pic, Shawn :)

shadow.. as has been pointed out, the capital thing is really an internet thing..

I prefer to use proper capitalization for nouns...I don't think it has any bearing on how much of whatever I am, and I dont see it as an indicator of how weal/twue/experienced anyone else is..
