hello all is any people into breathplay at all plastic bags and the like

Lockit -> RE: breathplay (7/20/2008 12:21:06 AM)

Just don't play alone is all I have to say.  Or someone could be like me... taking care of one who will never play again. Neither of us are having any fun.

HarryVanWinkle -> RE: breathplay (7/20/2008 12:40:40 AM)

At our Governing Council meeting last Wednesday evening, we voted to outright ban breath play at Desert Dominion, at my suggestion.  I'm sorry, folks, but this is just too damned dangerous.

In 53 years of good, clean living, I've already killed way more than enough of my brain cells.  I'd like to hang on to as many of the remainders as possible for as long as possible.

Now, since it was my motion, I have to write the actual rule so we can include it at our next council meeting.

How did the voting fall yea versus nay if it is not a breach of council policy to disclose such?

Just curious.

I have to agree this is one of the most dangerous if not lethal forms of play there is.  Anytime the brain is deprived of oxygen, even for just a few seconds, there is damage.  And unfortunately it has a cumulative effect, so if done several times during a scene, especially to the point of passing out, the chances of permanent damage increases significantly.  So from a medical background my words of advice is DON'T DO IT!!!!

I just tell jokes until they pass out from laughing so hard.

lust38 -> RE: breathplay (7/20/2008 7:48:53 AM)

I have never understood the attraction of breath play.  Why would you want to short circuit the brain, by artificially inducing an anoxic episode.  Lack of oxygen causes brain death...why kill of the organ, the one most needed to truly engage in this lifestyle?

cuckold37 -> RE: breathplay (7/20/2008 8:11:38 AM)

all of you bring up good points about breath play.i believe that most of you have never tried it however.it is a scary thought that you could die or be permantly affected by asphyxia.many of us do things everyday that offer the same results.this is a fetish that needs to be practiced safely with a partner.that said the allure of a plastic bag over your head restricting your air is too hard to resist for some of us.it is an awesome feeling.please just try to understand its just another fetish that you may not have an interest in.be safe in your play

Lack of oxygen can also induce altered states of mind.   Do you drink alcohol?  It kills brain cells too.  If you do either to excess, death results.  The risk is greater with breath play of course. Most people believe that the chance is worth it for alcohol, but not for breath play.  But there are people that believe the health risks from alcohol are not worth taking either.
<p>Different people have different risks profiles.

Trashbagboy74 -> RE: breathplay (7/20/2008 8:31:11 AM)

Breath Play can be Danerous but if you are with someone that is experienced in Breath play then there should be no problem with it. I do have a Fetish For Trash Bags the 55 Gallon Bags and I buy them from Bag Companys. If you read my Profile you will see. I was with someone for over 6 years and she loved Throwing me in a Trash Bag with it sealed up. She would know when to give me air and at night if i was good she would make me sleep in it with air. I hear alot of Domme/Mistress getting away from this because of Death and the Damage that is causes to them. I will still have a Fetish for the Trash Bags and until i Die. I just love being in them and the Smell of them Turns me on. When I meet someone I tell them about my fetish and I ask them if they are ok with it. That is one thing i miss now that i am not with that person now. She was the only one that i could Trust with the Trash Bag with it sealed up with no air. She knows that I still care about her.

I've experienced breath play, back when I was earning my crop. The man who did it was very, very good, and because it was -so- difficult for me to get into and hold onto submission, breath play was the one time that I really got a sense of him "holding my life in his hands" so to speak.

That being said, it is something I will never participate in again, either as a Top or a bottom. The reason for this is that I attended a medical training event that discussed temporary anoxia and the impact on the brain. It was made clear during this training (which I attended as part of the development team for a clinical trial of a treatment for cancer that could result in throat swelling to the point of anoxia), four neurologists walked us through the anoxia process, and explained that an individual can -die- from one episode of anoxia, with no other symptoms, and after having been perfectly healthy prior to the event. In other words, the first time you do breath play, it is possible to die (or kill the person you're doing breath play on). Further, I attended a second seminar on carotid plaques and stroke, and discovered (much to my dismay) that preventing blood flow through the carotid (another common form of anoxia play) can release plaques in the artery that will cause disabling stroke or death -- and again, that this can happen the first time, and/or with no prior warning. The other thing that was relevant was that it didn't matter how many times someone had survived anoxic episodes before -- every single episode could be a killer.

After these seminars, I came to the realization that I valued life much more than I valued that brief glimpse into being totally and abjectly owned. Those who owned me agreed (one of them was part of the team on the same projects I was on), and we also agreed that it would not be done in the confines of our household, because of the danger of death for service members and the attendent risk of incarceration for dominant members involved in participation.

Sudden death is not an effective way to participate in a living-intensity way of life. However, if you have a deathwish, it may be just your thing.

I do have to say that I agree with HVW's organization's choice not to allow this play at their events. I don't believe we should choose for others what they do in their own homes. Everyone has the right to make the choices appropriate for him or her, once the true risks are assessed... but I think that organizations have the right to decide that certain things cannot be safely done in their environment, or that the risk to bystanders is too great to allow that kind of play at group events.

There are many ways to achieve and altered mental status... some harmful,  drugs, alcohol, O2 deprivation, others actually helpful, meditation, exercise.  Callafirestorm, said it well and very specifically some of the dangers surrounding breath play.  My concern borders more along the boundry lines for  "margin of error" with this type of play, coupled with the popularity and the attention that autoerotic asphyxia has garnered.  I am just fearful that the SAFE part of safe, sane and consenual will be overlooked by  those eager to chase the next greatest thrill.

There were no dissenting opinions.  I believe the vote was unanimous except for the Treasurer who missed the meeting.

TwoDommeDivas -> RE: breathplay (7/20/2008 9:11:09 AM)

Interesting.  Where should the limits be placed?  What about stabbing?  Forced drug ingestion?  Limb amputation?

I would say that if you are equating drinking alcohol to breath play, you've probably already lost too many brain cells and shouldn't be engaging in either.

So the same thing applies to escape artists who do performances under water, some swimmers, and of course kids who play "who can stay under water longer" at the community pool?  I am not being inflamatory, I'm asking a serious question.

I have a huge breath control fetish and it's incorporated into almost everything I do, but I'm perfectly content with fairly tame hand-over-mouth scenarios and pretty cheesy roleplays (here, get into my *air tight* shower!).  I'm too big of a chicken and way too paranoid to do anything that more complicated than that.  I can thoroughly enjoy and psych myself up enogh *pretending* that my slave can't breathe, compared to *knowing* he *really* can't breathe and at the same time worrying like mad or going through a gazillion mental checklists in my head - that's not going to be fun. I'd rather toss him into my "air tight" shower and make him pretend.

At the end of the day, I just like really heavy, desperate breathing that can come from a variety of things; or the grateful look of "THANK YOU for letting me breathe" that can come from just annoyingly clamping my gloved hand over his nose and mouth for short periods of time.  But I suppose even that's a form of breath control that kills brain cells -- but only as much as holding your breath to get rid of hiccups, right?  That's where I don't get it. Everyone holds their own breath "as long as they can" countless times in their life.

Lockit -> RE: breathplay (7/20/2008 9:17:32 AM)

LOL... okay... you are with someone you trust and both have done this before.  An opps happens.  Does said partner stick around to take care of your ass or will they do time?  Or does another mom get to?  Or a nursing home where medications used to get you up or put you to sleep might make you hallucinate, which makes you hard to handle and you get to be strapped to a bed because they don't have the staff to monitor you.  These are real facts and there are a number of good and true facts on this thread.  You want to play... go for it... but be prepared.  The tax payers shouldn't have to support your fetish and if there is an opps... even if from a long time of making it out of the situation and doing it again... you fry enough brain cells to need the tax payer to support you... just as in some alcohol abuse situations... then your fetish costs all who pay taxes.  You want to sniff trash bags or be put in them or play with it all... go for it... but could you please assure your care before someone else has to?  Be responsible rather than defensive of your right to take part in risky behavior?  Hummm?

I understand that traveling in an automobile puts you in roughly the same situation.

Edited for spelling, dammit.
