In response to Question #1, there has always been me against somebody else who was not into the same things or thought or felt the same way that I do about something.   Just not limited to BDSM.

In response to Question #2, I've been discriminated against for not being into the same things, not thinking or feeling the same way as somebody else did.  Again, not limited to just BDSM.

I've been a bit of rebel in my lifetime, doing the things I wanted to do, doing the things I felt was best.  Not always fitting in with the trends, not always being and acting in the manner that other people expected me to do.  I do have my own code of conduct and moral guidelines that I follow.  There are things I refuse to compromise upon, if it means selling my soul to the devil.   I don't mind being discriminated against, if it's truthful discrimination.

I do hate being accused of things that are not true.  That probally gets me the most.  If it's over something that is true, I don't mind it.

Question #1:  As an individual practitioner of whatever it is you do (TPE/BDSM or Gorean etc.), is it YOUR personal belief that there is a proverbial line in the sand drawn between the "Us" and the "THEM?"

Question #2:  Do you as an individual practitioner of whateve it is you do, feel you have been discriminated against?  Persecuted?

Excellent questions.
In answer to both:

'i' am a twin, emotionally conjoined from birth, i am pan-sexual as bi-sexual no longer references how i experience mine or others' sexual orientation, i connect with what Tolle says about ego functions and then somewhat more, i live in this world, nether worlds, dream wrlds and time 'is'.
There never was a wall inside my head which came down. But there is a wall inside my head that i grow tired of having to build and re-build every so often to maintain a handhold on the reality you are asking questions about.
The proverbial line is exactly that: a metaphore whose domian, when superimposed upon many of our realities, simply delineates the world of opposites we have been taught is the only one we may live in if we wish to suceed. As to persecution: i have learned to call it sado-masochism and it is part of my heart's cycle.
Ed. to add; this will be my today's journal entry also and thank you for the inspiration.
prin xx

it is only us vs ourselves and what we learn and grow from
we are forever changing adapting  some go backwards some go forward in their lessons of life and all that stuff

At last a well written fun post:

Now for the Pop Quiz:

Question #1:  As an individual practitioner of whatever it is you do (TPE/BDSM or Gorean etc.), is it YOUR personal belief that there is a proverbial line in the sand drawn between the "Us" and the "THEM?"

Being TPE/BDSM, I see the lifestyle as it's your thing, do what you want to do.  Labels ruin freedom.  In order to experience the entire lifestyle experience, one has to be free.

Question #2:  Do you as an individual practitioner of whateve it is you do, feel you have been discriminated against?  Persecuted?

Four years ago, I felt persecuted because I did not understand the many different forms of lifers out there.  There are a couple in which I choose not to participate because I don't believe it or understand it.  Education is the key process in learning about this lifestyle.

I have quite a few more questions but I'll start with these two.

For those who don't consider themselves practitioners of WIITWD, but have a different way of looking at it/phrasing things, I'd welcome your thoughts.

For those who will automatically insert that I have an ulterior motive for asking these questions, let me just say,......

of course I do.  I am an inquiring mind, I want to know!

Respectfully, Winsome

When I was younger, I saw lines...between those of us in school who made high grades but did not follow the "dress code".  First inklings that those lines weren't so clear...those who did not make good grades but did not follow the dress code AND those who made good grades and did follow the dress code.  Lines blurred.  When I was in the service, there was a line between G.I.'s and civilians.  But there were plenty of folks not in the military who supported us, even during those difficult years.  Line blurring...those who supported us but not our mission, those who supported us and our mission.  Chiropractic vs. medical.  Line blurring...some hospitals now have chiropractic doctors on staff.  I work with several medical doctors and had an orthopedic specialist work out of my office for years.  What I have learned is that the lines are there but they are not as clear cut and defined as some would like to make them.  I am not wishy-washy...I believe in taking stands on what I believe in but I also understand that like so many other things in life, whether it be values, ethics, etc., there are shades of gray...even if they are very faint shades sometimes.

Because of what I do in my professional life, I am very careful about who knows what I do in my personal life.  When you do not allow access to that knowledge, you cannot get hurt by discrimination or persecution.

Sexycelticlady -> RE: "Us" vs "Them" Mindsets (7/21/2008 9:16:08 AM)

The reality is that lines are created by different groups of people deliniating the difference between them and those outside of the group. Humans do have a heard mentality and part of the them and us is a bonding mechanism that people use to fit into their chosen group. However, making assumptions about another person based on any sort of generalisation and grouping is wrong and to be honest I find it abhorrant. It is one of my main pet peeves. As others have said, we are all individuals with personal likes and dislikes, but at the same time we are all humans who just wish to find some happiness in our lives. How people go about finding that happiness, providing it does not cause harm to others, is their own choice and does not make them better or worse than anyone else. Differences make life interesting [:)]

I have not been discriminated against with regard to BDSM and it is not something I hide either. If people say something to me then I try to educate them from my own perspective. I never have and never will be ashamed of what I do. However, I have been discriminated against with regard to things outsie of my control so I have been on the other side. It is never right.
