Half a degree "off" - 7/20/2008 11:06:32 AM

I had an interesting conversation with my companion this morning. She's traveling, and called to let me know she arrived at her destination safely. In the meantime, she mentioned that the person she was traveling with mentioned that she is "half a degree 'off'" in terms of the rest of society. She said this person mentioned it in humor, and described it like 'true north' and 'magnetic north', where there are several degrees difference between one and the other. They bantered this around a bit, then my mate threw in "I guess that means Calla is half a degree off as well.", and her traveling companion laughed and said "Calla... heck NO, she's a full degree and a half off!" We both had a huge laugh, because we know my mate's companion is pretty much right... on a calm day, I'm about a degree and a half off... I never make it to "true north"... but I've been known to swing 3 or 4 degrees of when I'm working at it.

That's what makes me such a -magnetic- personality!

So what about you... do you think you're "off", and if so, how far off the "norm" do you see yourself being.

Damn, not sure how many degree's off from the norm I am,....but I know I'm pretty damn ugly on the inside, Muahahahahahaaaaa!

Seriously though, I like to think of myself and my views as a person are pretty normal all around,...but my interests and personallity are a bit strayed.  All-in-all, I'm not that different.  I could sit down with a vanilla car salesman and still get a long with them or anyone.

I'm the same way -- I get along with just about anybody, at least in the short term... but even then, I'm bleached, cropped, and tie-died (hair-wise -- at least during the summer... I change my hair for the seasons) and have ink that shows, no matter what I try to wear (of course, I haven't tried a burkah for the same reason I don't do rubber... I hate the feel of sweat on anything but bare skin)... so I never make it all the way to "true north".

Actually I think I'm as normal as anyone else. I don't think of what I do as "dark/evil/perverted/twisted" etc. I do believe that people who view their sex lives in that way have internal conflicts. Bleached hair. tattoos, piercings, etc are normal here in a college town. Although purple hair tends to get you noticed more.

D and I were just talking about this the other day!  I told him that his moral compass may not point to the same "North" that everyone else's does, but it never wavers.

*wry chuckle* I can count what's "normal" about me on less than one hand. When I was younger, it bothered me. I got over it.

I truly believe the world is flat and I fall off on a regular basis.

Lately, I just seem to be pissing those with degrees off.

I have never been able to lick a tootsie pop all the way before biting.

I hear what you're saying. I don't think of what I do as "evil"... as someone in another post mentioned, I have the same issue with a "moral compass" that doesn't seem to point in the same direction as many parts of society, but it rarely wavers (thank you sujuguete!), so for me, the whole idea of 'evil' is a moot point. However, I don't have the same issue with dark, perverted, and twisted... I actually -like- using those terms, since they implay an action taken that profoundly re-shapes a thing in relation to its perceived environment. I like to shape my universe, and re-shape behaviors and actions, and flesh, and minds... to darken or lighten, to pervert or revert, to twist, bend, fold, spindle, and even (by some folks definitions) mutliate. I like the people who come to spend time with me -knowing- that this is how I am, and particularly wanting to share that perversion.

I am completely "normal" for me... but I am not on the same frequency as the mainstream population. I don't -want- to be. I like being "off". I like having tie-died hair at a job where everyone else is "pinstripe suit, perm, or buzz-cut". I like having tats that you can't cover up -- and I -love- that, since I've come to this company, at least the people that I work with have become so comfortable with seeing a "freak" in their midst that they don't notice, sometimes, when another person has off-edge elements... They actually hired a woman just a couple of weeks ago with eyebrow piercings -- something that would never have happened when I first started with them.

Sometimes, I choose to be closer to "true north". I deal with people who are struggling, and families who are hurting. Sometimes, I go out of my way to cover up the "scary" things about me, to make sure that the people that I'm talking to are as comfortable as they can possibly be. I wear a surgical cap to cover my hair, or I put bandages over my ink... I know I'm not fooling them -- but they seem to appreciate the extra concern, and for me, it is a choice -- I get to choose whether to scare Grandma and Grandpa P, who are dealing with Grandpa P's impending death by waltzing in like Joseph's  Technicolor Dreamcoat... or I can still know who I am, but choose to let Grandma and Grandpa P have at least the illusion of normalcy in a time when they're hurting so much.

I have no choices that I've made that I regret. I'm not sure I even believe in regret. I have made choices that I won't repeat, but I appreciate the opportunity to have the experiences that came with making the choice the first time. I am twisted and dark. I am balanced and light. I am perverted and re-directed and on-track. I am kinky and razor sharp. I am dignified. I am playful. I am the Firestorm and the rainStorm. What I need to be to shape my universe is exactly what I become.

I'm so off that North is magnetic South.  Which it is.

I was talking with a stranger in an airport once when we had an unexpected delay.  At one point he told me that I was "spooky" and physically leaned away from me.  I had to know what it meant since it was such an unexpected statement - it turns out it was because I seemed to "know" him so well for having just met him.  He obviously felt I was more than just a little bit off.  : )

And I'm not really spooky - I am just good at reading between the lines and watching body language and listening for tonal changes.  I'm not afraid to call someone out on it if I don't believe they are telling the whole truth.  It helps when you're a Domme.

I tend to often live in contradictions, simultaneously very very non normal, and yet excrutiatingly normal.

Have you ever tried to find North with an alarm clock? Yes that's right, it's me.

Dunno, that's a question "normal people" would have to answer.

Interesting.

I always thought that compass was broken so I just threw it away. I guess it was me all along.

Hmm, this might explain why I'm so directionally challenged!!

I'd just come to the conclusion that I was an evil homing pigeon in a previous life, and my ability to get lost in my own front yard was my karmac recompence.
