Things are different between each "setup" in this lifestyle what one Dominant expects another may not or vice versa, just go with the flow but keep your head in it......

Everything that  everybody has said here is right so I'll just add one little thing that my former Master told me:  #1 Rule:  Master is always right!

As long as you please your One there's no reason to worry about how anybody else perceives it or what anybody else thinks, says or does.  All people and every relationship are different.  If you ever have any doubts, remember Rule #1:  Master is always right.

Keep it safe, sane, consensual and fun.

I told my sub "Protect yourself always, even if from me"....

Thank you.  Thank you.  Thank you.  This "master", at least, has yet to achieve perfection and ascend to the heavens.  And until that happens, it's important that my slave judge me, my actions, and my commands critically.  I think the specific override command I gave (and continue to reinforce regularly) is:

Under no circumstances are you ever to obey a command of mine which in your considered opinion is likely to result in significant/lasting harm to yourself, myself, or the relationship.

Put another way.... "If I'm being an idiot, please don't enable me"

#1 Rule:  Master is always right

In my not-so-humble opinion, a potentially very harmful thing to say to a new sub.  Honestly, does anyone actually think this is literally true?  If so, could you please ask your Master to send me a few stock picks because I'm tired of working for a living.  If not, why on earth would anyone knowingly and deliberately go down a wrong path deluding themselves the entire time that it is right simply because some fool said so?

Great, great advice so far!

I would add to be mindful that a dominant is first and foremost a person, a regular human being like anyone else.   He or she may be "in charge", but a dominant still has emotions, fears, moods, hopes, worries and desires in and outside the realm of BDSM.  Don't let your need be to be submissive cloud how you perceive your dominant as a person.

What are the most important rules to remember as a sub or slave. I am new and wish to please.

For me it's to replace the roll of toilet paper the way He likes it and to not turn off the bathroom light when His razor is recharging.  [8|]
edited to add one more--He owns the remote.

As littleone said, the biggest one I'd suggest is COMMUNICATE.

Don't expect your Dom to read your mind - you will be dissappointed.  This is a journey for the both of you. . . talk about where you want to go with it and it will be infinitely more appealing to you both.  Neither of you can meet needs you don't know about.  And don't be ashamed to talk about these things - Because if you can't trust this person with your intimate thoughts - you certainly shouldn't trust them with your body.

Rules?  There ain't no rules in a knife fight!

Damnit! You mean i was taught the wrong thing?

As a biker's old lady years ago i was taught always pack a gun to a knife fight. You win so much faster that way.

Seriously now; the best rule you have already been given, remember you are first and foremost a human being.
