[&o]  I know but now I have to wait for my immigration status to settle here in Canada and I don't know if my US credits will transfer, plus them being so old. (20+ years.) Funny thing is, I was studying nursing and economics though my declared major was dance. No, I didn't declare it, the college did. The majority of my classes were dance classes because I was getting in shape and staying in shape. In their twisted, bizarre eyes, that automatically made me a dance major, even though I was in the nursing program. [8|]

no excuses [:)]. If your credits are not transferable to Canada you can take on-line courses with an American University and even cross the border into NY if a clinical is required. Once you have your degree in the US it is transferable...though sometimes a few courses are required prior to a license being issued.

one of the perks of nursing is the variety of places you can go with it. forensic nursing , school nurse , rehab nurse, visiting and traveling nurse. teaching nursing. teaching cenas. its one of the most employable careers in the US right now.
i waited till my late thirties due to life issues. i do wish i had done it first.
true fact. the only argument i ever had with my father was over my desire to be a nurse when i was 3 years old. i still remember it like it it was yesterday. he told me i couldnt be a nurse because nurses see men in their "yikes" ! underwear ! this was 1968 and my father was very conservative and old fashioned about daughters.

Rain,
IF it is something you want to do then do it... even if you have to take some classes over again.
Think of how much easier it will be since you already have a foundation.

LadyRainfire -> RE: Nurses. (7/23/2008 6:46:19 AM)

Plus, I have a stronger foundation now than I did then. I went through EMT training and was nationally and state certified for that. [:D]  Plus, if possible, I'm more likely to challenge a course if I can now since I have the confidence and skill level, depending on the course, of course!

I think nurses are second only to nuns on the hot fetish meter. And, oh, yeah, female highway patrol.

The onliest thing is that I thing that whoever started the trend allowing nurses to wear scrubs instead of those li'l white uniforms should be hung right after we hang the guy who invented panty hose.

but CJan...the scrubs are more comfy....

boytoy4female -> RE: Nurses. (7/23/2008 8:50:42 AM)

From the looks of most of the nurses I have seen lately, scrubs are preferred. Some of them would be equivalent to seeign your school lunch lady in a miniskirt.I will nominate myself to decide who wears scrubs and who gets the hot little nurse outfits.

Well then, I'll put you in one of those "li'l white uniforms" and see how well you do CPR and picking up patients off the floor, and everything else that being a nurse requires, K?  When it comes to patient care, functionality is far more important that doctors and patients being able to look up our skirts, thanks ...

bookworm966 -> RE: Nurses. (7/23/2008 8:53:49 AM)

*waving my hand*  ER nurse for the past 7 years.  Some of my best toys, ummm implements, ummm tools of the trade (yeah, thats it) were liberated from work.  Like the institutional grade leather restraints [;)]  Fast and easy to apply, comfortable enough to wear for hours (or until the restraint order expires).  Anyhoo, what is it about nurses and kink??  Are we predisposed to kink because we are nurses or are we nurses because we are twisted?

boytoy4female -> RE: Nurses. (7/23/2008 8:57:56 AM)

Hiding from all the nurses who are now out to get me...fearing they all have pilfered supplies for dealing with just such outrageous things as my statement...LOL

shyhuzzy -> RE: Nurses. (7/23/2008 9:01:42 AM)

I think we are predisposed to be kinky and nurses at the same time.  Dual prerequites requried for loving life.

boytoy4female -> RE: Nurses. (7/23/2008 9:05:14 AM)

Kinky and attractive nurses? Damn, I gotta switch PPO's. I think the image of the kinky nurse stems from the predominantly sexual mind of the male. And, the fact that a nurse is usually in the position of power, over the patient.

shyhuzzy -> RE: Nurses. (7/23/2008 9:10:24 AM)

so does that make a slave a switch in life....dominat the patient during the day at work and a slave to the Master the rest of the time?   will this start a new thread of thoughts?

Lynnxz -> RE: Nurses. (7/23/2008 9:29:39 AM)

No- it means we can multitask.

Nursing school is being a bitch to get into this year. :( 300 people applied, 30 get in, I have the perfect gpa... but one of my @#$%^& credits might not transfer over.... AND THEY TELL ME THIS NOW! >.<

*Gnaws visciously on the admin lady*

Damnit damnit

Eventually, the goal is to work in a burn ward... but not happening if they are going to dick around with paperwork at the school.

shyhuzzy -> RE: Nurses. (7/23/2008 9:44:04 AM)

Having to wait with all the classes that we go through and then the "if" we get into school and the hoops that state boards put us through does make me wonder some days.  I've been a LVN for 17 years and am persueing that BSN and it feels like I will never get there.  The thing that I have been doing to help ensure my classes transfer over is talking with the counsulors at the colleges that am attending and wanting to tranfer to after each semester or 2 to make sure I am still "on track" and hopefully I don't land in the rut and get stuck for a year waiting again to reapply.  Good Luck with your schooling Lynnxz !  Hope you get in one the First Try!

everhope -> RE: Nurses. (7/23/2008 10:15:26 AM)

it is said that nursing is a calling...i got mine (a literal) call 13 years ago. i started as a CNA (certified nurses assistant) as a home health aide. sometimes, i miss the hands on that being a CNA allowed. bathing another can be such a joyful experience. gentle touch, light massage, touching a person that feels so untouchable because of their illness...i love being able to do that for another.i have worked with many AIDS patients ...to touch those afflicted with ugly diseases without fear is profoundly felt, so i have been told.

it makes my heart sing to give service from the heart everyday in my work a day world.

i think nurses general reputaton for being kinky is the simple fact that bodies and bodily functions is something a nurse has to be comfortable with or you wouldn't be a nurse for very long.

may we all find our bliss.

everhope -> RE: Nurses. (7/23/2008 10:20:58 AM)

oh and ...nursing school is the closest thing that you can get to being in the military. especially, if your nursing instructor is a retired Captain in the Navy. her weekly inspections of her students were ummm nerve rackingly hot!
she checked closely for pure white panties under those white scrubs.

 Damn...things change. When i was in school we had to wear starched white dresses...and i do mean starched!! And don't even get me started on the caps...

boytoy4female -> RE: Nurses. (7/23/2008 1:20:44 PM)

I would agree that many enter the field of nursing for the "right reasons". But, at one time, I became aware that many who were in the field of nursing, or entering the field, suffered from depression. After a conversation with a friend, who's wife was entering the field of nursing, I did some research. There are a number of studies on this. My synopsis, after doing much reading, is that many enter the field of nursing to offset their low-self esteem and/or depression issues. I wonder if there are other fields that have this type of psychological attraction. Doctors maybe?
